This trusty S0 has held out so long. Looks like I won't be running the beta, but assuming a new Apple Watch is announced in the fall, it's finally time to upgrade!
Focus on adding new features that take advantage of speedier SoCs. Leave the first gen stuff behind. Over time the devices will get fast enough that they'll support them longer like what Apple is doing now on iOS giving support, once the new devices launch this autumn, for six generations of devices on iOS 12. That's remarkable for a mobile OS. The watchOS and hardware is still young and likely compromises need to be made to support S0. It will get better.Newer, faster devices don't need code optimization as much as the older ones do
Or did you simply mean they should target their code only at newer, faster devices...
Imagine if you spent $15,000 on one of the gold plated edition versions of this. So much for being a rival to luxury watch brands. Those last generations. This is dropped after a few years
So the $10.000 Gold Apple Watch series are now obsolete? Good investment!

And this is why smartwatches will never replace traditional watches - they're obsolete after just a few short years.

So suddenly my $17,000 Apple Watch Edition is shunned by Apple? Feels so wrong...
Did these washes suddenly no longer able to do what they were doing when they were purchased? And this is why smartwatches will never replace traditional watches - they're obsolete after just a few short years.
For those saying series 0 will still work, so no need to complain:
My iPad 1 would still work fine too, except Apple stopped Safari updates years ago and block any other browser vendors from releasing their browser on iOS, therefore obsoleting a perfectly usable device.
I don’t mind not getting watchos 5 but Apple should announce continued support (security and compatibility updates) for watchos 4 for the expected lifetime of a series 0.
I’m not upset but I hope my S0 keeps working On v4 for a couple more years. Got it a month after release and have worn it daily. Very helpful daily carry tool. This is upsetting. My Series 0 works just as great now as it did when I got it almost 3 years ago. I understand the reason but I'm not happy about it.
I upgraded my S0 to a S3 LTE, but wear the S0 at night for sleep tracking. When I update my iPhone to iOS 12 and my S3 to watchOS 5, my S0 can still remain on watchOS 4?
Just a few short months after I got my Series 0 Apple Watch...
I'll still use it for a long time, rest assured.
I get frequent migraines, and Crohn's disease attacks which send me to the emergency room more times than I'd like to admit and when I go in there more than a few of the nurses & a couple of the on-call doctors have an Apple Watch. The health implications of the Watch really intrigue me. I'd consider getting one in all honesty.Right, but in a sense, I don’t think smart watches are intended to replace traditional watches. Smart watches are merely a convenience factor for fitness tracking, notifications and other tools. I see smart watches really being a multi tool, but it’s a piece a disposable tech, but it pays for itself depending how you’re using it.
Where the Apple Watch could be very promising, is if it continues to improve in health related features in the future, that’s something that no traditional watch can offer. Two different segments.

Just like your PT Cruiser.
