Since there doesn't seem to be a setting for this, I rebooted the phone and it is now displaying metric distances in the Fitness app. This must have something to do with the way the iCloud restore for health data was handled. When I went to bed last night it still showed "Restoring Activity data from iCloud...". That's gone this morning.

Meters and Kilometers.

The watch displays in metric. It's just the phone Fitness app that's in miles.

Edit: I just checked and the Apple Maps app displays in Kilometers.
Was wondering if the watch setting fed Fitness app for the workouts from the watch.

Oh well. Good luck.

Just installed iOS 14.2 GM and synced a run. Map and heart rate data are in Apple Health. Problem is fixed.

You can get the GM (should be identical what will be published within the next 5-10 days), just subscribe for the public beta program.

Great to hear! Did it also restore previous runs that were not synced?

No, sorry.

Not a big issue for me as my primary platform is Runalyze and I have everything there and I could sync now from Runalyze to Health via RunGap. But will not do that, not worth my time.

edit: maybe it takes some time until old activities appear with GPS data but I would not bet on it. Most probably not.

Good news: also old tracks reappeared! Seems to take some time. I am back now to Oct 9th.
Interesting. After I did the unpair, wipe and restore it took around 24 hours for the activity data to be restored from iCloud, but none of the GPS data was included. I wonder if I'll get the GPS data back with 14.2?

One day later and no additional GPS tracks restored. As I did an unpair and repair (from backup) in the past, it seems that all tracks after the procedure are there, all before are gone. Even the ones before watchOS 7/iOS 14 are gone.

All of mine are gone. Fortunately, I have GPX backup files from HealthFit for the last year or so.

Seems my theory fits: no GPS tracks before the date when I did the procedure. All runs later now have a GPS track back.

Heard that iOS 14.2 beta 4 solves the issue. Let's hope it is out soon.

So, if this is true, I could finally update directly from 13.7 to 14.2 and not experience this activity/calories/GPS bug (and start using my 6 week old unused Series 6 AW that can't be used with iOS 13.7)?

So no need for a WOS update?
