Yes it is not pretty. Keep in mind that the 3 series is a couple of years old already. You can't expect to receive updates when you buy a 3 year old product though.
The series 3

series 3 will be four years old and it is the only watch without a 64-but CPU

YES!! As an avid runner the updates here looked simply amazing! Intervals and pulse training !
I used to be a runner til I was sidelined with a rare joint tumor. Seeing these updates makes me even more hopeful for a full recovery. I can cycle so use the HR monitor to find zones and stay within them. Will be nice to program the watch to my zones and have it show me at a glance instead of having to think about it during a ride/run.

Maybe they’ll still update security for a year or so but no features?
Ah yes, I have seen some very old devices get security updates even after the OS had already moved forward without then. I think iOS 9 on my iPod and iPad is the one I’m thinking of.

why? they still work great. i use an s6 and s4 and can hardly tell the difference
Want the new features also had an issue where it would randomly shut off during my runs including one 10km where I was going to break my personal best time where I was letting it all out on the 9th km last fall. I almost ran it over with my car that same day cuz of this🥲

The Series 3 should've retired when the SE was released. Wanted to hit that $199 price point I guess. Now they are going to have recent purchasers feeling shafted. It should immediately be discontinued.

Apple having audacity to still sell Series 3 despite this announcement. Yikes!

I can only assume Apple is waiting for AW Series 8 to launch before Series 3 is finally gone for good.

Series 4 is the "old" model that should have stayed in the lineup. But obviously, that can't happen with a product segmentation strategy as aggressive as Apple's.

But let's rejoice in the fact that there's probably a lot of changes coming to the AW lineup this year -Series 7* and Series 3 get dropped? Maybe a new AW SE 2? Two different iterations of Series 8? Exciting!

*not from updates, just from the lineup to makes Series 8 look better.

Yup. Still selling right now AFTER the store is up again. 🤣
Lord have mercy on the soul that isn't in the know and buys this in 2022 thinking it's a decent option.

And shame on Apple for selling it. Especially that!

In another thread I told a guy don’t waste $60 on a S3……he bought it and people thought there was no good reason to not buy it. Well….I told you so. The 3 was the biggest scam running. They must have over produced it or spent to much on R&D for it. Keeping it alive for that long was so dumb.

That isn't likely. Apple wants every device to have that "Apple UI feel" while allowing limited customization.
It's obviously done to ensure some base level of legibility and usability which could easily be ruined if you let users change anything they wanted.

Another one of the typical limitations you get with Apple products.

Then again, I'm not convinced the majority of AW users truly need more customisation to AW watch faces.

Not surprised since the Series 3 released back in 2017.
Ah well, i was planning to upgrade to a new Apple Watch Series model next year anyways.

Wow I didn't realize the Apple watch 3 was launched in 2017. I was still using a Fitbit Blaze / Charge 2 at that time.

its the last apple watch processor to still use 32bit.
It's the last ANY customer facing Apple processor to use 32 bit. macOS, iOS/iPadOS & tvOS all went 64 bit only many years ago. It might be the last one period although I can't comment on stuff like BridgeOS or other embedded code since I don't know. It must have been a PITA the keep a 32 bit version of the common Apple code base around just for that product.

And it is weird that it's still being sold now knowing it will be deprecated from software releases in a few months. I can't think of another time that's happened with an Apple product....usually there are a few years of updates AFTER the product is discontinued. But my daughter's S3 is so difficult to manage because of the slowness that I don't think I'll mind getting her a new one.
