The price hasn't just increased in line with the exchange rate. It is much higher.

This could be Apple hedging the exchange rate (predicting a further downfall of the pound and factoring it in early). But this is not typically passed onto the consumers, rather kept in the supply chain.

Greed is my only answer. I hope the sweetheart that is Ireland stops becoming Apple's tax haven after brexit.

Also, we didn't all vote to leave the EU. Please don't lump us all into one category. Also the people that voted to leave, demographically speaking, aren't Apple's target market.

I wasn't born then so I didn't bomb anyone but it's clear you are a thoroughly unpleasant individual.
So what? I wasn't born then either and yet I've got to pay war reparations and had to live in an occupied city with a wall running though the center. It's not about personal guilt. You're a Brit and you get to pay UK prices for whatever the £ is worth.

In related news, Microsoft just introduced a $3000 i5 machine with 8 gigs RAM.

There are PLENTY of lower priced options on the market. But if you want the best (and the new MBP are by far and away the best laptops), pony up.

As a professional, I don't care about €200 or €300 more, and I know the resale value will be HUGE as always.

TOC is for men, sticker price is for kids.

But NO Professional would pay 20% extra (as in the UK now) and gain absolutely ZERO from that! The MacBook M5 has increased by £250 when in reality, it's price should have been decreased by £150 due to it being heavily overpriced. An educated person can see pure greed.

We're not talking Apple prices anymore. It's your remark of individuals must suffer for the sins of a nation.

Having yourself referenced Nazi Germany that is an appalling comment and you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.

Wasn't really interested in upgrading my MacBook, but was waiting for well needed updates to the Airport range, specially the Express, which isn't even AC yet...
Not only did they not update them, but they also put the prices up... Airport Time Capsule 2Tb from £249 to £299, and the old Express from £79 to £99!!
Luckily John Lewis is still selling them at the old price, so bit the bullet and got them there, with 2 years warranty.

Nope, that comment is just nasty as your previous one! Try again.... :)

UK sales are going to plummet. Been an Apple lover since the 80s but Cook is testing my patience. Still occassionally waking up at 6am to try and reserve for pickup an iPhone 7 Plus Jet Black on iPhone Upgrade Programme but the few that come in go in seconds. Not feeling the love...

I totally agree. I won't pay £1550 for a M5 Macbook. Not something that may only last 5 years. I was saving for this model hoping that it would drop to £1150 but now no way. The old MacBook that I have will have to make do. Why would I throw £250 away for no reason??? I'd rather put that towards a beautiful weekend away travelling.

Actually, I converted the base machine as dollar price to pounds at the current exchange rate and added on vat... it comes to £1483, so, your statement is untrue. It's on sale for less than the current exchange rate....

But they must. A currency can only work when more than one person is using it. And at that point their value is judged as a group, not individually. The whole group suffers for the behavior of its worst and most influential individuals — politicians, bankers, journalists.

I consider the price rises on new machines predictable, and not entirely unreasonable due to the exchange rate plummet, despite obviously not being entirely welcome(!).

But slapping it on existing machines (or the components for them) that are already ancient and likely sitting in a warehouse waiting to be ordered is just disgusting, and actually quite stupid, IMHO. If they're doing it now just to say (eventual) new models are the 'same' price as the old ones, I think that will fool no-one.

It's not just the UK. I've been looking at various discussions and Twitter streams for a few hours. Everyone is getting hit hard with price increases. Australia obviously gets it up the backside like always. A full specced out MBP with all the fixings comes out to be AUD $6,649 which is about $5,040 USD. The same config in the US costs $4,299. Assuming and import and duty combo rate of 15%, there's still about $100 discrepancy.

I think @Floris said something yesterday about it being a bit too much for him and he was wondering how much more people, more so professionals, will spend on dongles and new hardware that supports USB-C.
