With no mini LED on the 11”, a price increase would be insane. It’s already overpriced compared to the iPad Air, which is almost as good in every way (actually better than the 2020 iPP in terms of processor..)

I can see why they’d want to differentiate the 11” Pro more from the Air, but a price increase and a normal yearly processor bump isn’t it..

I thought the “surprises” of the headline might mean some unannounced new features for the Pro, but doesn’t sound like that’s the case either. Apple is basically killing the 11” Pro by making it extremely unattractive compared to the Air.

That would mean two straight years of price increases. I know there is a chip shortage and materials/labor is more expensive, but we have assume if mini led is coming out next year there was be a substantial price increase there as well. At that point the iPad is a basically dead because you can buy an entry level Air or MacBook at around the same price.
Exactly. At least that MacBook Air comes with a keyboard for $999!

Price increase better portend something like increased base storage to 256 or something. I was set on an 11 ipp, but if it really just gets a new chip and no MLED... I might just save a few hundred and go for an Air instead.
Same. I was ready to buy the 11” Pro but if it’s going up in price with practically nothing potentially useful... I‘ll just have to stick with my ghost touch 2018 11”.

Any 'Price Increase', no matter how 'Modest', will be a dagger in the heart of the iPad Pro. I'm already unable to sell them. I'm having clients who I pushed to iPads over a laptop, now a year or two in, start to gripe about all the things they can't do on the iPad that they know they could do on a laptop. When a 70-something sarcastically drops a "What's a computer?" with a wry expression in casual conversation about an Excel spreadsheet, Apple has lost their PR narrative.

The last "sellable" iPad Pro, for me, was the 11-inch 2018 closeouts in Spring of 2020… folks who snapped them up got a heckuva deal. There is no room for the current pricing, not with the "rock and a hard place" pricing with the Magic Keyboard and the M1 MacBook Air. Not unless Apple is telegraphing they are going to increase the pricing on the MacBooks. Which… would be even more unfortunate.

Just saw an 15-inch AMD-based Microsoft Laptop 3 certified refurb, with 10-finger touchscreen, on Woot for less than $700. Apple is quickly painting themselves into an unenviable corner.

There is the problem. An Ipad isn't a computer no matter how much people or Apple want to claim it. It's still just "big iOS" with a few extras. The same frustrations and limitations- Files, share sheet, etc. The hardware is great but the software is 100% holding it back.

If you could run Mac OS I guarantee they would sell a boat ton regardless of the price. It would be the best tablet out that's a full computer. Windows tablets are basically trash (and the OS not very touch friendly).

About 2 years ago I got a refurb from Dell (looked brand new) XPS 13 touchscreen with an i7, 16gb of RAM and 512gb SSD for around $1150 before tax. There is no way you can sell me a 12.9 iPad with a keyboard for the same price of more. It's simply not worth it.

Unless you NEED a pencil, but even then you can get a Windows solution for less that does basically the same thing (absent the drawing part it is not as good), plus a ton more.

LOL when has apple EVER raised something only $10-20? They like round numbers too per all of their pricey products they sell; ending in $49 or $99. We all know this is code for at least $50.

I'd guess $849/1049 or $899/1099.
Well, apple knows their market better than we do, but the current price is already almost excessive for what the iPad pro is. 50-100$ on top of that is really difficult to justify. Add the cost of the pencil and a even a 3rd party keyboard puts the total price in the neighborhood of a 15” gaming pc

The MacBook Air and iPad Pro don’t compete in price, basically because they’re different devices.
Comparisons like “it doesn’t make sense that an iPad Pro costs more than a MacBook Air” are like “it doesn’t make sense that this sports car costs more than a sedan”.

(Most) People who want an iPad are not going to buy a Mac because it’s cheaper. They may share some functionality, but they’re different devices and therefore markets.

Many people don’t get that we like the iPad because it does many things way better than a Mac.

Good luck. $799/999 (especially the $200 more for under 2 inches more screen) for the base models are already too high as starting prices as is. Without a keyboard even.

They're getting to the cost of a full laptop (and over) with competitive speed, which makes it a non-starter for most when it can't do everything a full laptop can. The choice would be an easy one for most people looking in that price range.

The base ipad and Air are still relatively good deals for the price, but the Pros are making less sense vs a laptop if they go up any.
Sure. Well, maybe if every time Apple raised prices people didn't rush out to reward them for that, we wouldn't have this problem...

I certainly don't. Maybe it's just getting older. For the first time I didn't upgrade my iPhone and I've never owned an iPad despite eyeing one a few times.

I eyed the Air when released since it is a good price for what you get, but that was about it. It still a $600 toy that I don't need owning a laptop already to work on. Adding a keyboard and stand (or keyboard case) will just push up that price. If I did get one I'd want the biggest screen and not paying $999+ for something so limited by the software.

And it's not like we've been going anywhere lately where carrying something is an issue to even worry about.

And considering many many people can't afford rent or bills right now, I don't see people running out for more expensive new iPads. Not this year. Some of the sheep always will, but many people won't right now.

The high phone sales on the 12 are a bit harder comparison since you can pay a few bucks monthly and most do that. At 0% interest and all carriers offering it, it made little sense to pay up front.

All of these analysts need to get together to decide on what Apple is doing.

Price increase shouldn’t matter. People got stimulus to spend. I’d be shocked if they didn’t raise prices. Along with new pencil and kb or higher storage you’ll be spending 2k. On an iPad. Lol. At least the screen is game changing.

xdr screen? Apple will have some silly name for it. If you really want an iPad with better screen then wait for iPad Air with oled.

iPad Pro is already too expensive compared to other devices like MBA or the base model iPad.

Should be (realistically):
iPad Air = $499
iPad Pro = $699 / $849 + $199 (max) for the keyboard.

But the iPad Pro has really no real competitors, so Apple is using their position on the market to get as much money as they can... good for them :)

It is certainly difficult to compare the two as both can do things the other can’t, but I think you’re still correct in that the "value proposition" for the iPad Pro 12.9 just becomes less and less convincing.

In Europe you pay 1380€ for a 256gb cellular iPad Pro 12.9, add 400 for the MK and you end up spending about 1800. That is insane.

Might as well buy a MBA and a nice iPad Air for that price.

All true. No reason it shouldn’t be able to boot macOS as well. If so I’d buy one. It’d still primarily be an iPad but also a Mac if needed. But for an iPad? I’ll get entry, mini or air if oled pans out for it. And usually at a discount. These are play devices after all.

I have no problem with Apple making this monster iPad for people who need a very portable "Pro" tablet solution. I don't think they are shooting themselves or anyone in the foot with this, as long as the basic iPad exists for people like myself who do the standard stuff. That 8th Generation iPad I just bought for my son is going to last him a long dang time, so I'm quite happy with that. That said, I do wonder how many "Pro" people are out there who want an iPad to do their work. It makes me wonder if this is all just a pre-amble to the future when MacOS and iPadOS are eventually one and they don't care if it won't sell like hotcakes.

I'm hoping for new iMacs and an entry level iPad based on the Air 3 chassis.

The latter would actually make me reconsider the iPad Pro 11" I'm currently using. It's uncomfortable to hold, it's expensive and I hate carrying two Apple chargers when traveling with iPhone and iPad. That said, I much prefer the 2nd gen Apple Pencil.

I’ve had the air for several months now. Very well priced, works well, and I have had zero need for the more expensive pro.
