Ok; this is the first time I’ve done this so please go easy on me! My theme for this contest is crowds. You remember them, they’re the things we used to gather in with friends/family etc and, usually, we’d have a bloody good time, until everything went crazy in the world. You’ll probably need to delve in to your archives for this one. The occasion can be whatever you like: a sporting event, a wedding, a concert or festival - even a protest if you wish!

Standard rules apply.

Follow all relevant local laws regarding stay-at-home orders. If you can't go outside, try and take a photo at home or grab one from the archives.
  • Do not comment, vote, react or click “like” on images prior to the winners being announced.
  • The photographs must be your own work.
  • You may only submit one photo per contest.
  • This contest runs for one week. If in doubt, check the dates in the title.
  • At the end of the week, The Judge will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline, then last week's 2nd place has to step in. 3rd place takes over should 2nd place be similarly unable to officiate.
  • The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create a new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.

Here's one to get us started. My football (soccer) team's supporters celebrating en masse after getting promotion to the Premier League in 2011. My team is Queens Park Rangers, by the way. Look; there's not a mask in sight. And as for social distancing - we'd never heard of such a thing!

I actually really avoid crowds at all costs, even pre-covid, being an extreme introvert. And I shoot in such a way that I either avoid, minimize, or clone out extraneous people. But I think this fits, a crowd of swimmers packed tight in a gazebo, cheering and getting prepped for a morning swim meet. Our summer swim team didn't have any meets this summer and this image almost feels like nostalgia now, wondering if the kids will ever gather like this again, so innocent and happy.

Technically a herd, but they are crowding the road keeping me from reaching my destination (Solalex, CH). Ironically, I later learned that the fields surrounding the parking lot was their destination as well.

This is the traditional method used for centuries, walking the cows up the mountain from the lowlands where they were hay fed during the winter to the highland fields now with enough growth to support grazing. In 6 months, the process will be reversed. Note the size of those cowbells. Lead cow has the largest and the combined sound is unbelievable.
