Maybe I'm being hasty about the rebates though. Is it correct that Apple will not cover your machine under warranty if it is not using the original Apple RAM? If so, then perhaps its not a good idea to trade in your RAM afterall...

RAM shouldn't void your warranty.

I have to wait til September so I can purchase the 27" cinema display with it.

That's a real puzzler. I was very surprised to see the difference in availability times between the new Mac Pro and the new 27" ACD. You shouldn't have to wait the extra month or month and a half depending on exactly when the new ACD ships.

Normally when this type of thing happens Apple will ship the computer and then when the display becomes available it will ship the display.

I'm not sure how they will handle this since the display isn't even available for pre-order.

36 hours to go ....................... :D

Better get that CC out and Apple's 800 # on speed-dial.

cheers

I wonder if you'll be able to order it around midnight, like how they had the iPhone 4 pre-order.

do you guys think apple ships the same day or will it just be a pre order program?

Screw ordering it at midnight. I"ll be at the Apple store 9AM sharp to pick up either the heavily discounted 2.66GHz (current model) or the 2.93GHz or decide on the new 2.8GHz base model instead.

If the 2.66GHz (current base model) is $1799 (like the 2.8GHz 8 core was back in early 09'), I rather pick that one up as its still a Nehalem thats slightly down clocked as to the 2.8GHz.

My interpretation read the opposite; can order on the 9th, but no idea when they'd actually ship (i.e. stock won't be available for shipping on the 9th).

Oh yea, I didn't mean specifically the 9th, but the usual "within 24" hours shipping label.

Well, I guess we're all hoping for this.

Some people on these forums have been saying that they've rung up Apple regarding the date and been told it's incorrect and has been pushed back.

I sure as hell hope not.

Anyone wanna ring them up?

Do the B&M stores sell their "old stock" MP's at the same price as the online refurb store or are they even more price-aggressive?

cheers

Ready, and the clock is ticking.

Had a new desk delivered yesterday, various parts are on their way (firewire hub, RAM, external HD & DVD burner). Waiting for August 17th to see if there is an update announced for iLife (not that I will use it much), then will order my BTO quad-core iMac. Figure the delay will let them work out problems with supply and delivery. Kinda like intentionally delaying Christmas, but I'm pretty much OK so far.

You are in the wrong forum bro.

Yea I was thinking about this too. I might wait until August 17 for the rumored Apple media event. I'd like new versions of iLife and iWork and I would like to get a discount on iWork when getting a Mac.

Hmmm, but I think Apple may offer a 30 day upgrade grace period if you already ordered a Mac or iLife. Thats what they did with iLife '09 when it was announced last January, so I would assume it would be safe to order the Mac Pro right away when it gets released.

So really, not sure if I should wait another week or just order on launch day. The wait is already killing me.

3 more days 0_o

sooooo many questions...too many options... Apple is really killing me here

I noticed this as well. It's going to be ugly in the Mac Pro Forum on Monday, when the online store never changes. A lot of people are positive Monday is the day, but let's remember, it says "Coming August" not "Coming August 9th".

I agree that people have jumped to a largely unwarranted conclusion.

The only real ray of hope I HAD seen (pls note use of past tense) wasn't on any Apple site, but rather on the Kingston site, where the 1333Mhz memory for the new MP's--which I ordered--was listed as being "Available approx. August 9." earlier this week.

Unfortunately, I just looked at it again and that availability date has now changed to approximately August 11.

Of course we can't draw any real conclusions from that either, but if it means anything, it doesn't mean anything good.

It turns out my kingston memory has shipped and will be delivered by UPS on Aug 9.

You bought it directly from Kingston? Their prices are... a bit pricey. Even links from their site to retailers are significantly cheaper such as the DDR3 1333 4GB module is $100 cheaper from CDW.

Thanks for heads up about Kingston DDR3 1333 ECC availability. I've heard very good things about Kingston RAM.

Why do Apple use low-end consumer grade graphics card in these Mac Pro? Mac Pro is Professioanl workstation, not consumer peecee. Why use Radeon from ATI? This one is for the kids!! They should be using the ATI FireGL series of cards which is for the professioanl. Not Radeon!!!

I'm ready!

My MacPro1,1 is getting a bit outdated, though my wife is excited about getting it as a hand-me-down :D

Yeah, I just sold mine. I was still happy w/ it but decided I better get some money out of it while its still worth something. I got $1300 for it, which I think is fantastic for a 4 year old computer.

Paid $2200 for my 1,1 and could not hand over the money quick enough. I'm not too excited about the new bumps though. None seem like the "deal" the 1,1 was. Now I'm torn over entry level octo or single proc 6core -- I figure they will be around the same price. I'm not really excited about either, mainly because of price. Part of me says just go entry quadcore, get a fast SSD for boot drive, and max out RAM.

That is a question for the ages. As long as I can remember, Apple's graphics card have always been a generation or two behind the PC world, and even then they don't use the best of that generation. It's always some crippled crap marked up 200% from the PC version.

Apple likes to pay lip service to pros and gamers, but never really pulls though.
