You bought it directly from Kingston? Their prices are... a bit pricey...

Ouch! I knew they were a little higher but I thought they were mostly like Crucial. But no, you're right, $100 higher.

I will RMA that memory and get it from CDW. Might have to wait a while because CDW says "Availability 4-6 days". Thank you for the heads up.

Why do Apple use low-end consumer grade graphics card in these Mac Pro? Mac Pro is Professioanl workstation, not consumer peecee. Why use Radeon from ATI? This one is for the kids!! They should be using the ATI FireGL series of cards which is for the professioanl. Not Radeon!!!

Oh jeez, not again.

Because there is no performance difference in OS X. At all. http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2...t-the-nvidia-quadro-fx-4800-mac-edition.ars/3

You'd think a decent stock GPU would finally get people to stop bitching, but noooooooooo

When AMD will make a decent FireGL driver for OS X, let us know.

It has nothing to do with the benchmark performances. It is the chip features that makes the difference!! But some people if they are not professionle may not understand theses differences!!

Chip differences? Is this like the "SP Xeons are better than i7s" thing? Where one is more "pro" due to some minor feature that doesn't make a shred of real-world difference for most pros? If the performance is the same, who gives a damn about chip differences? Or did you not read that review of an actual pro saying the price premium is worthless under OS X?

The main selling point of those cards is the drivers, which are optimized and certified for various 3D tools. As noted, this is worth jack under OS X.

I'm inclined to believe the August 9th Mac Pro availability for ordering rumor and I'm getting excited. That's tomorrow! I thought I'd be ordering one in March when those rumors were circulating. Now almost 5 months later and it's so so close :D

Because they don't want their computers to sound like Planes taking off because of all the fans in there.
We love Silent computing.

Amen! I share your excitement. It's been a long 17 months since the last update. I'm personally confident we'll see the update tomorrow. My guess is that the sales reps knew the launch date but was never told to keep quiet from the higher ups because of all the other crazy iPhone 4 issues going on, and then were finally told to keep the date confidential after the unintentional slip-ups.

Well, we'll definitely find out tomorrow.

I have a feeling it's not going to be up for order tomorrow.

:[

Ah the old doubting that it'll be released/negative remark SO that it'll come true tactic! :p

I'm desperate for the new Mac Pro as well, my mini (although fast for alot of things) is starting to look a little too slow these days (12 spaces opened running tons of applications and vmware fusion).

Oh and I'm desperately in need of more space! Say something like 3TB or more. My local microcenter is having a sale for 1TB HDDs for $59.99.

So it begins.

Just put in an order from Newegg for my new scratch disk, plus some more RAM for my gaming rig so it can keep up during distributed renders. (When you're a student, you take extra render muscle where you can find it. :p) I'll be ordering RAM for the MP from OWC once they have the official 2010 modules in stock.

P.S. Newegg has WD's 1TB Caviar Black, the newer FAEX model with 500GB platters (instead of 333GB) and 64MB cache for $95/w free shipping.

I think Amazon has the 1TB Caviar Black for $90. And if you are a college student you can get a free year of Amazon Prime, which means free 2-day shipping for a year :)
