I listed my auction on Ebay. Bidding ends just a couple days before the rumored Oct 4th announcement day. This should maximized the amount I get for it. If you wait until after the announcement, expect your iPhone's resale value to drop by AT LEAST $50. I can use a dumbphone for 1-2 weeks. What are your plans for vacating your current iPhone?

I like how your perfectly reasonable post is -5 ! The Apples lovers just cant understand why someone would ever sell an iphone!

You come to a Mac forum and you call people "Apple lovers"... Besides, why does not selling your phone make you an "Apple lover" (assuming you mean that in the derogatory sense)?

It doesn't, I never implied it did.

Expect your iPhone's real value to drop by AT LEAST $50 when selling on eBay.

To be fair, thats perfectly reasonble thing to say, when a new one comes out I imagine that $50 would be the kind of drop you would see.

You clearly state that Apple lovers cannot understand why someone would ever sell an iPhone, implying that such people would never sell their iPhone. In other words, not selling your iPhone makes you an Apple lover according to your generalisation.

I don't sell my iPhones, I pass them on. Does that make me an Apple lover, or does it just mean I like the iPhone as a phone and portable media device?

Nope. I will sell my iP4 only if I deem the next iPhone worthy of an upgrade. I won't know that answer until the keynote.

Also I'll be going the Craigslist route. No fees to pay and there is always a very strong market on Craigslist for Apple products that are maintained in good condition and working properly. I sold my iPhone 3G and MacBook Pro via Craigslist for very good money.

It has nothing to do with being an Apple lover... if he were looking to maximize profit, it should have already been sold. Now that the Oct. 4th date is all but set in stone, prices will drop more and more the closer we get to it. Expect the market to be flooded the first week of October making the prices drop that much quicker.

If the OP had only a 3 or so day auction posting, he'd do much better that having it end the first week of October.

To all of the people mentioning eBay fees... Etc. It's the cost of doing business. I have sold iPhones on craigslist before. You gotta weed out all of the flakes and lowball offers. Plus I have to meet with the person in a safe place. Plus I notice that you usually get less on craigslist anyway. So I'd rather get more on eBay and just pay the fees. It's just less headache. Plus I can deal with eBay around my work schedule. And the emphasis of my post is the timing of the sale, not the method. Regardless of any fees, I'll get less if I wait to sell it. As it is, I'll net 430 or so after fees. Then I'll buy my new iPhone for $199/$299 subsidized. I'll come out ahead.

Nope. I don't have an iPhone 4 :( But my iPod Touch will be up for sale soon.

Iill wait and sell mine later, not really looking to go for a profit with it. I sold my 32GB 3GS last year in october and still got about $330 for it. After ebay & paypal fees + shipping, it ended up being right around the $299 plus tax for the iPhone 4. that worked perfectly for me, and it was still 3 months after the 4 launch.

The thing that confuses me, is that if you can live without an iPhone for 2 weeks (possibly more), then why do you so desperately want/need an iPhone 5 the day it is released?

I think i'd rather just stick with my iPhone 4.

I've using my 3GS for almost 2 years now.

There is an iPhone 4 in my house, and after a weeks when the awe factor diminish there isn't a tangible difference between a 3GS and a 4. Or at least it doesn't feel like day and night.

I won't be upgrading, at least not until my device stop supporting the latest builds. Nonetheless I kinda understand people who feels the urge to get the latest device as fast as possible, and if in doing so you can break flat or perhaps even make a profit, then way to go!

Like a bunch of people here, I'm planning on selling my i4 for the i4S/i5.

I have a black 16gb model for Verizon. Phones works perfectly, and is in fact jailbroken on 4.2.8. My phone has noticeable scratches on the front and back. Nothing terrible or distracting when looking at the screen, but when the screen is dark, you can tell it is there. Back has scratching too. Whats a fair price to get for it? Seems like Craigslist is the way to go.

Thanks,

D

I can't. I'd lose my unlimited data.

No, it will be given to a family member so I know that it will get looked after and appreciated more than some cheapskate looking to save money on a second hand product!

lmao what is this?

Mine sold two weeks ago...glad I got $280 for my 3GS, hate that I am stuck using a palm phone until I get a new iPhone.
