I went to the Apple Store to try out the iPad pro. I really wanted it to work since I'm kind of devoted to the Apple ecosystem. However, two major flaws on the iPad pro compared to the surface - no kickstand and bad keyboard.

The iPad pro is just to big and heavy to hold. Without a case, it can't stand on its on.

And the keyboard is way below the type cover. No real key travel and I have to say it looks uninspiring to me personally. The type cover finally won me over because I plan to do a lot of typing, writing reports, emails etc.

I would agree with you that the keyboard cover is terrible to type on. I don't know if this is because i'm coming from mechanica keyboards..

But in terms of big and heavy. The surface pro has more substantial weight to it than the ipad pro.

Yep, the iPad pro is slightly lighter. But I imagine the kick stand is super useful when, say, I'm having lunch and reading or watching something. I can take the keyboard off so it won't be stained.

So pretty much you went to the Apple Store to see the iPad pro before you made your intended purchase, the surface pro.

I am quite the opposite of you, I went to Microsoft store to see the Surface Pro, ironically the MS store is just right opposite of Apple. After playing with it, I was hoping to love it but...I hated it, it was clumpsy to use as a tablet, a week later I got the iPad Pro and happy since then.

Surface Pro still lack high quality apps, trust me, the quality of the apps has more to do than the Surface Pro itself, no point of having a good machine with 3rd class apps. Even the Microsoft apps are not that stable. MS recently took away the unlimited onedrive certainlay doesn't help too. It just make me can't trust them at all.

I've said before that I still think for a better all around experience, the SP3/4 is a better bet and I said last year, it was the best tablet i have ever used. The problem with the surface and what will be a problem with the Ipad pro, is that it's not that easy to blur those two lines between laptop and tablet. Windows was not designed well around touch screen, and I spent more time - opening the kickstand and treating it like a laptop more than a tablet and using my mouse.

While the IPP, i'm treating it more like a tablet with the convenience that I can connect it to a keyboard. Even using my hands to press stuff on the screen feels weird when you are in keyboard mode and this is where I think the Surface has the advantage (besides the full OS part).

I don't think you can go wrong with getting an Surface pro and the only reason I will be selling mine is because it will either Cannibalize my macbook pro or my macbook pro will add dust to my SP3.

The only thing I didn't enjoy on the Surface pro was web-browsing like a tablet. it didn't feel comfortable at all to put it in portrait and web browse. Possibly this is more corrected with Microsoft's new web browser but I didn't enjoy chrome on it with touch screen nor did I enjoy the Font DPI. This is some thing, I am really enjoying on the IPP.

That being said, every single year, every single new product.

We get the following:
I returned my (name your product)
I bought this product instead of (name your product)
I bought (name your product) and here is my review.

Can we please consolidate these topics so this doesn't fill up half the topics thread? I'm glad people have opinions, but most people don't care that you returned it because....and it just seems like more of a justification on the OP to make sure he or she made the correct decision.

Whatever decision you make is the best decision because its your money, there is no win or lose just who gets the money. I'm not the one living with a 1000 dollar purchase over my head if I don't like it.

You purchased a Surface Pro because the Pro doesn't have a built-in stand? I imagine that will be easily fixed with some type of third party stand/cover - as well as the optional keyboard, but ok.

The Surface Pro is great so I'm happy your happy?

Alternatively, punching a bolt through the battery and adding one yourself works too. I'll post a WiKi soon.

Ok. Somebody please give this person a cookie.

I'm a fat ass and ate all of them; deal with it, but at least my hands are now as crummy as a surface 'pro' so I can probably feel less like pleb when I try it as it'll suit me more. :p

A difference of such grams is an issue? I think we need to go 'down the gym' like all the other "kool kidz".

Like it or not, your lack of self respect and personal hygeine will never Wash out! But seriously the Surface Book would have made me laugh (considerably) more because of that stunning battery life as 'a tablet'.

The urban armor case has a kickstand....

So does my Son's push bike, along with stabilizers but does that mean an Olympic cyclist is going to state "right lads, I don't want the high tech performance bike from wind tunnels and that, I HAVE A KICKSTAND!"

Just joking, but I will add this to the forum dictionary

KICKSTAND: The definitive factor as to if the iPad Pro will be a success or failure, as what else could possibly matter more?

I intended to purchase the one that fits my needs, hence the surface pro. Unlike some fanboys here I always try things out before make any judgement.

Hang on, so if they disagree with your opinion they are fanboys? Right...

I hope nobody is offended by my sarcasm, all views expressed are (funnily enough) my own and do not represent that of all forum members. Just most of them. Happy Days to all of you! :D

I didn't mean people who disagree with me are fanboys. I'm referring to people who buy everything of a brand without comparing and testing, Apple or Microsoft. But I did spot a butt hurt fanboy, I was called a paid troll just because I have different opinions.

The iPad pro isn't a entirely a new product category, iPads have been out for years. You should've known what to expect since it's only a larger iPad with a few other improvements. Don't try to sound like you genuinely was tablet hunting and ended up with a surface pro. The surface pro is a better laptop, the iPad is a better tablet, and you intended to buy the surface pro from the beginning.

I bought a Surface 3 earlier this year and now it's used as a Windows laptop 99% of time when I need to run some Windows-only software needed for my company (yikes). I never used it as a tablet. The battery life is not great too.

Apparently you know me so well. I'm touched.

It seems you may be in the minority.

I live in a large University Town. Last year at school and the various Starbucks shops surrounding the campus, 75% of the laptops were MBA or MBP.

This year a conservative estimate reveals 80% Surface Pro Models. What a surprise to see what the Students choose now. I must say it got me to try one. I enjoyed it so much I bought a Surface Pro 3 and really enjoy it.

As much as I like iPads, with the productivity killing iOS 9 and failure to provide an essential file system, Windows 10 provides a very significant advantage.

Oh sure, they may not have as many games and fart apps as Apple, but they've got a nice selection of software for work and school. Given the high popularity Microsoft will see that more apps follow soon.

It's good to see Microsoft giving Apple a run for its money.

Based upon recent profit estimates; now I may be speculating but, I don't think they give two. Their money is pretty stable and shareholders are happy. Gen 2 and all that jazz will have higher costs but sell more yads yads yads but Apple have more money than a premier league team. I don't think they are too bothered by some students deciding to buy a different product. I for one went laptop with a Retina MacBook but I do wish it had a kickstand too :(
