Don't be dissing Land Rovers. Which model were they?
V8 Discoveries. Great engine (the classic Rover V8) but that was about it.

Wouldn't that be funny if the Spaniards named a car the "wanker"?
LOL. The naming thing gets a lot of companies, sometimes with hilarious consequences.

Here in the States Landcruisers are pretty expensive (you can't get one without all the luxery appointments in the $40-50k range) but they're built like a tank.
Same price roughly over there but no-one really cares. Saudi is such a c***hole that the only way anyone will go and work there is to bribe them massively. Happy days :D

Maybe the Saudis should take a page from Libya's book and buy some Lamborghini LM002 trucks. Countach engine, yeah!
Saw a couple over there but I thought they were discontinued a long time ago. and wasn't it basically a tractor with the Countach engine?

Hmmm, I guess a Hummer makes a different sort of statement in the Middle East than it does here....
Just slightly ;)

You were using the "Windows ME" of cars in Saudi Arabia. Sorry, but those Rovers aren't the best, are they.
I couldn't recommend a Land Rover to anyone - even someone I didn't like :D . So many problems.
Rover didn't have any problems - it was all the fault of Jeremy Clarkson

I've never seen one in person, but they look very '80s. And I would never choose an Italian vehicle for military use. Why would you want a super-complex V-12 in a military truck? Imagine the maintainance woes - it would make the Landrover's look like swiss watches by comaprison.

Have you any experience with those Austrian Pinzgauers or Mercedes Unimogs? Ugly b*stards but extremely capable by all accounts.

I find Clarkson less offensive than many - he's got a big mouth but he makes me laugh. Top Gear is great.

Because they are from the 80's...

I've seen some ofthem in person and they were very impressive/huge compared to other cars back then. It was before the Hummer saw the light of day...

As a status symbol! At that time back then it was the fastest off-road vehicle one could buy! The Saudis loved that car!

I don't think that for somebody who is drivinhg that vehicle the maintenance is an important decision factor...

True, it was partially a status symbol, but buying an unreliable truck for military operations is a good way to get soldiers killed.

When the US Army held trials for the vehicle to replace the Jeep, a chrysler-powered Lamborghini LM002-like prototype participated in the trials. In the course of testing the vehicle was destroyed, and the Army judged it's performance inferior to that of the Hummer (having a gasoline engine was one siginificant drawback, since gas explodes while diesel mererly burns). That, coupled with the fact that the Humvee was a US design ensured that the Lambo would not be accepted for use by the US military.

I like the Liberty, its a cross between the wrangler and the cherokee. Great small SUV. Plus anything that has "Trail Rated" stamped on the side is alright with me.

Huh, I thought the Liberty was a cross between a cherokee and a neon (seeing as how Dodge owns them both)!
Sorry, the liberty is just ugly. Its got as much appeal as a CRV, RAV4, etc.

On the other hand, I like most jeeps prior to 1990, and I still love the wranglers. Just got an 05 Rubicon Unlimited (sweeet) and its a blast. But the Grand Cherokees are just too small inside and not tough enough outside. The old Cherokees were good, it was a sad day when they dropped that for the liberty.

What's the new supersized Jeep called, it has to be one of the ugliest things I have ever seen.
