My favorite "burger" is the grilled shrimp burger at a NYC chain. They add spicy coleslaw, avocado, pickles and perhaps more spicy sauce on the "patty" of grilled shrimp.

Actually, guacamole or avocado is a must on any "burger" I eat. I'll probably consider it when I cross the fried chicken threshold again too (almost there. :p)

If I still ate red meat, I'd definitely put grilled spinach and onions on the burger. The last burger I ate had these and I am still thinking about it decades later.

I make a burger sauce with homemade mayo, homemade sriracha, whole grain mustard.

Pepper jack cheese

Grilled onions

A fried egg
That sounds good.
For the sriracha?

I use the fermented version of this recipe. I tweak it to my taste and replace the sugar, since I don’t eat it. It’s delicious, way better than store bought.

As for the burger sauce, I just sort of throw stuff into a bowl and adjust to taste.
I will try this thanks!

Cheddar cheese, meat patty, bun and that's it. I'm a simple person. I let the meat and cheese do the talking. If a burger needs anything more than that to have an amazing taste, it's not a good burger at all. Heck, doesn't even need cheese. Best burger I had was in London at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant and it was delicious with good quality ground beef and perfect seasoning.

I am going to London on the 12th for a couple of days before I catch my flight from Heathrow and I'm really interested in visiting that restaurant you're talking about. Would you happen to remember the name or the location? I'm a huge fan of good (non-McDonald's-tasting) burgers

Don't remember the name( it's been about 10 years) but it was attached to a Marriott hotel.

I’ve made homemade lamb and mint burgers tonight so will probably enjoy with lettuce, cheese, deli mustard and ketchup.

Burgers consist of:
Lamb mince
Smoked Paprika
Cumin
Oregano
Salt n Pepper
Breadcrumbs
Beaten egg
Mint sauce

I like my hamburger--if home made--with lettuce, pickles, a big slice of tomato and a little ketchup.

No mayo or mustard?

There is a place nearby that makes a killer burger - my new favorite. It's topped with pepper jelly and Thai peanut sauce. Amazing!

This sounds amazing.

Blue cheese dressing (I love everything to do with blue cheese) would also attract me as a possible dressing on a burger.

Mayonnaise is for a regular sandwich, and mustard is for hot dogs. My suggestion works great for hamburgers of the homemade variety.

Well, I have been known to put mayo, and mustard (sweet), and ketchup on burgers......and yes, blue cheese dressing would also appeal....

But, hey, I am not from the United States.....

I usually have lentil burgers or bean burgers although once in a great while I'll eat an Angus burger. i put on diced sauteed onion, mustard, ketchup, dill relish, a splash of worcestershire (Lea and Perrins, yes) some Vermont cheddar and serve on a lightly broiled kaiser roll with some lettuce. By time I have all that put together I feel like I should have been paid to assemble it..

Sounds delicious - dill pickle, yum.

But I bet that it tastes wonderful.

It's a steak sauce similar to, yet still different from, HP Brown Sauce.

Ah, thanks for the explanation - given that I am from Across The Pond, (and have never visited the United States) there are culinary (and cultural) peculiarities in that society and country that I have never, ever, heard of.

We have pretty eclectic tastes, consume a wide range of foods, but for some things, I really like to keep it simple.

I'm definitely a burger purist: nicely sourced beef, not too lean, cooked just right, not pressed/pattied too tight (ground beef needs to _breath_), really good bun and cheese. If the burger itself has the right amount of fat, it should be sitting on a nice dollop of mayo on the bottom bun, so all that delicious juice mixes into a fatty, delicious greasy mayonnaise :D

No steak sauce, no BBQ sauce, nothing done to the meat except for salt and pepper. Fresh toppings from the standards :)

like mine with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and French fried potatoes, Big kosher pickle

In all your traveling I'm amazed that you've never been to the states! Please visit. You can set up a MR tour, visiting us along the way. Could wind up a pretty inexpensive trip too if you stay with us and let us feed you regional specialties!
