I agree, it was a disaster for Apple and they really should be embarrassed by their poor performance. The whole "oh, we didn't expect so many people" is so overdone with them. They're just really lame... They say they are all about the customer, but they surely didn't exhibit that last night for the pre-order fiasco. I really for sorry for people that aren't Pacific Time that had to be up all night. What a mess they are. And we get a whole week to deal with it, awesome!

...and yet people like you STILL give Apple your money. You really think Apple is going to care about your complaining when they still make a profit off you regardless of how badly you scream about getting screwed by them? Companies are more motivated to change their business practices when under the threat of losing customers. You haven't provided Apple with that motivation.

Keep it up though! People like you help keep AAPL stock prices high, and that is good for me :)

I agree with the OP. Had the App had T-Mobile phones available, I wouldn't have been so displeased with Apple; but having to wait an extra couple hours made for a later delivery date.

Might be off topic. Let's say I pre-ordered at 6+ today. Would my contract renew today or when I actually received the phone.

im almost positive there essentially was NO PRE ORDER for the plus. All launch day plus units were shipped to stores for in store pickup or walk in sales. Neither of which can be done if your using AT&T Next.

I somehow got a Nov. 1 - 27th ship date even though I stayed up and finally got my order in at 2:40AM central time, about 40 minutes after it supposedly went live.

Not even sure why some are getting their's in October and ordered much later than I, but it is what it is.

I made another order I made at 6:30AM this morning with Apple and still don't know the ship date, so I'm seeing how ships first so I can cancel the other.

64GB iPhone 6+'s are hard to come by. At least I'll be on iOS 8. It's the same experience on either phone anyway.

I understand that. But why on earth does Apple release a phone (they know will be huge) when they can't keep up with the demand? Every year it gets WORSE. It should be improving each year. Never in my life have I seen such a mess.

well would u rather get the phone on Oct 1-6 OR... risk them not even selling the 5.5?

Cmon now people relax..

I'm thinking the same thing. But there is a preorder, it's just all allocated for store pickup... mines said available for shipping 7-10 but the pick up is 9/19. so im guess they have certain amount of phones for delivery in stores in 9/19 and those are the ones that were tagged for 6+ preorders this morning. if you missed that stock, then they have 7-10 days of shipment the earliest.

I understand what a lot of you are saying. What I do not understand is why the Apple store took SEVERAL hours before it started taking pre-orders? Why did the Apple store app NOT have the T-Mobile iphone. That's what I'm really upset about.

Perhaps you missed one of my responses.

The "will be back" was a placeholder for "server is busy" as well. here was no difference. If you were seeing that, and in some cases "out of stock", it was simply because the server was too slammed.

OP you need to keep in mind that the launch was worldwide, not nationwide. And you're not alone okay? Verizon was taking orders 5 minutes before the official launch time. I got in and ordered my iPhone 6 Plus and my ship date which started out at Sept 19th got pushed back to October 10th.
It's not that big of a deal.

I am just curious if anyone else is as fed up as I am? Had to stay up until 5am CST to get my order in for a T-Mobile iPhone Plus 64GB Space Gray at Apple.com. I was trying to follow everyone on here, but the MacRumors forums were so busy, half the time the page would not load.

My beef is that after all these years Apple.com was the worst place to get the phone from. Why is that? I tried to use the app on my 5S and iPad but the Apple store app DID NOT have the T-Mobile model off contract. I can't believe Apple would do that? Why? T-Mobile's own website was not even taking pre-orders at all, despite it before past 3am.

Finally got my order in, but the shipping time shows Oct 1-6. I tried like the second Apple.com became available and that's the best I could get? Wow. I understand its a phone, and I'll wait, but I can't believe a company the size of Apple can't even get their 8th generation iPhone orders straight. I remember the same EXACT thing happening with the 4S, and 5, though not as bad.

What an absolute IDIOT.
Stop whining like a spoilt girl and move on with life. It's not like you need a life saving device that you can't wait a few weeks for

The store was down for me too for an hour before I decided to remove all website from data from Safari and refresh.

Lo and behold, that fixed it and I ordered 2 6 Plus's and 2 6's smoothly.

Don't think about it that way.
Next Friday go to the apple store or go to your carrier. If you can't get a phone there then at least you'll only be a week and half away from a phone. ;)

They weren't actually late. "We'll be back" was also being used as a placeholder for "our server is completely smashed right now". Which is unfortunate because it sent people mixed messages.

And you have any proof of this??? Cause that is an apple holding page, not an error page.

Cause I was following it on MR and the consensus was that the store did not comeback online at the advertised time .

Yes, every iPhone launch is a disaster. It's a miracle Apple is still in business. They'll be lucky to sell a couple thousand units...

...per second.

I actually thought because of the "we'll be right back" that Apple was late in opening the window. I now realize it was a cover for "our site is borked". Once I was able to get in 15-20 minutes after 3AM, the ipad app actually worked without a hitch.

Now that you mention it, with the exception of the website itself, both apps (in my iPad and my iPhone) came up almost simultaneously. So you're probably right that they did delay opening.

Since I only deal with the pre-order once every two years or so, the rigors of waking up early and refreshing often to secure a new iPhone isn't an issue.

Though, I've never failed to secure a new phone by launch date, and may feel differently otherwise.

sowwy :p

I'm sure the people in the world who currently have no food or access to clean water agree that you having to wait a whole two weeks for your new phone is an absolute disaster.

Please think about it. Actually think about. The need for them to have server load and bandwidth for ordering is such a short window. The system only has this level of demand for such a short short window once a year. After that it goes down. The resources they may have to commit to to provide for the demand can only be scaled to a certain point when any more diminishes the need. No other ordering system in the world needs to handle this amount of volume ever in such a short time.

And that demand grows yearly at an pretty impressive rate, this year probably more than most for two reasons, natural sales growth, and increased demand because of the two new models in new sizes. You cannot predict that accurately. And you certainly can't resource for it in such a way that the cost makes sense for the duration of need. So they do the best they can. And I would say that is still somewhat impressive. You wouldn't get this minimized level of "failure" from any other company. It would be exponentially worse.

Nice to see that someone truly gets it.

We're not talking a healthcare system that is MANDATED for people, yet still doesn't function with an entire government behind it. We're talking a commerce site with likely hundreds of thousands of people attempting to access at one time. It has to be able to manage that load somehow. And building a system to handle such an out-of-whack load for a few hours one day a year makes no more sense than spending millions of dollars to build a loop around a city to divert traffic because the downtown area is shut down for a three hour parade each fall.

If the server is overloaded for say 6 hours each year, that's still less than 3/10 of one percent of the annual up time. How much can they justify doing for that short a period.

It just amazes me how bent out of shape people get over a TINY (and PREDICTABLE) inconvenience regarding a NON-necessity?

Yeah, my SG 6 Plus isn't going to be here until October likely. I'm guessing my 5s will serve me just fine until it arrives. Besides, it just gives more time for other accessories to show up in the marketplace to go with the phone.

This unhelpful post was made possible by Apple not accepting my personal Apple ID login for reservation for the first half hour (those CAPTCHAs are so annoying), I must've typed in my password at least 50 times (if anyone wanted to know what my password was, you should've been shoulder surfing at that moment). Which led me to use my dev account, worked instantly, but I didn't get the phone I wanted, or at the store I wanted.

Eventually, though, I did get my ideal phone reserved as well. About 30 minutes after pre-ordering started.

Now, which one: 128 Slate, or 64 Silver +?

I hope you found this post unhelpful.
