The Apple IIe. Without it and the "Welcome To Apple" information disk, my journey into Apple, let alone computers and technology as a whole would never have happened. My elementary school ended up getting 3 of them, which were split from various times of the year throughout the year, in which we were given time to spend on it. Shifty Sam's Word game. Math Blasters. Lemonade Stand. and of course, Oregon Trail. Those games and programs shaped many a future programmer's and sysadmin's lives, and if it weren't for those, no-one would have any of the products they have now.

Good example: Zaxxon for the Apple IIe paved the way for F-15 Strike Eagle, which paved the way for Flight Simulator, which paved the way for X-Plane, in which the latter can be used on a Mac or in a full motion simulator to earn flight hours towards a Pilot's license.

It’s a pleasure to work on Macs and IPads that work so seamlessly with each other. It could always be better, but no one else is even close.
For an old hat Linux user from the early days, it's got to be Apple's iCloud ecosystem, for sure.

Got the first Retina iPad. It was a nice toy.

Got a 2014 MBP for Apple's SDK. It was nice, but stayed with Linux. I then switched to an iPhone for software and hardware that were both robust and more reliable than Android.

The synergy between the iPhone, the iPad and MBP via iCloud blew my mind; it just worked and was reliable. On top of that, iCloud data is backed-up with a simple retrieval method. Granted, the backup resolution and depth isn't quite there, nevertheless, it's easy to use with next to no learning curve.

I used to hate Apple before 2012, but have done a complete one-eighty now. They're really doing a great job. No argument there.

I just love being a consoomer to be quite honest. Love all the things they produce for conspicuous consumption.

Apple Watch legitimately saved my life after slipping, hitting my head and being knocked unconscious alone. Woke up in the hospital to a doctor telling me they had run a CT scan and my watch had called the paramedics who brought me to the ER.
  1. Tim has often said that he feels Apple's biggest contributor to society should be in Health. It seems as though this is true in your case, and glad that you got through it. 👍
  2. I hope you weren't walking on the road with your face in the iPhone at the time. The other side of this technology I guess. 👎

iPad Pro.

Used to be an all lead artist. But some of the meds I take for being a transplant recipient gives me the shakes so bad, I can’t draw like I used to.

Thanks to stabilization tools in a couple graphic design/drawing apps, I’ve adapted and sometimes find myself putting out better work.

No.. it did not. MP3 Technology did that. And it had NOTHING to do with Apple.

----

In 1987, with a project named EUREKA project EU147, Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB), the prestigious Fraunhofer Institut Integrierte Schaltungen research center (a division of the German Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft firm) began researching high-quality, low bit-rate audio coding. Fraunhofer-Gesellshaft now owns the licensing and the patent rights to the audio compression technology that was developed, a technology better known as MP3.
iPod & iTunes changed the entire landscape of how we consume music. No doubt about it. It started the ability to download music to the masses without the need to purchase an album. It is doubtful we'd have streaming services if it wasn't for the iPod and iTunes.

Now we start thanking God for Apple products?

This 14 pro. Easy.

Actually, equally as much I’m thankful for this space grey Apple Watch 6, since they butchered the aluminum colors with the 7+8… can’t get a black anymore unless you get stainless steel.

It really is a god sent product. I don't use a pro but iPad Air 5th gen. As a concept Artist I have been using it for 50% of my workflow. Procreate is a great app. Apart from Photobashing I could do 90% of the concept art work on it.

I wish Adobe would release the full version of Photoshop then I wouldn't have to touch my desktop for concept Art & Illustration at all.

And a Blender port for Stylized 3D assets & prototyping wouldn't be bad at all.

I could still keep my main pipeline of Zbrush, Maya, Substance Painter, Houdini, Substance Designer & Unreal Engine to my Desktop, but there is no harm doing the concept & prototyping on Mobile.

Don't like to sit down in front of a screen for 16 hours a day. It's giving my back some problems.

As much as I'd like to say iPhone - which is hands-down the revolutionary product of the century (so far), for me it's the Mac.

It's not perfect, but at least it's not Windows.

If I'm being honest, these days I'm more thankful when I find ways to occupy my time that involve not looking at a screen. I don't think all these gadgets and the internet have been great for my mental health, and to an extent that's the case for a lot of people. I'd love to get into reading.
I second that thought. By "reading," I'm assuming that you mean things to read besides MacRumors. 😁

You are correct that the Fraunhofer Society is instrumental in developing MP3 compression, without which portable music would have needed worse compromises in quality vs size vs storage cost. I would recommend the book "How Music Got Free", which covers both the invention of the MP3 and the rise of music sharing.

The revolution of the iPod was not just about the MP3 format or portable music players, but about the user experience.
My recollection is stuff like the Sansa (flash-based, tiny or no screen) or Archos (hard-disk, with screen) that lacked a friendly interface. IMO the critical feature of iPod was the Click Wheel and large screen, resulting in a product that was:
  • easy to navigate
  • reasonably priced
  • held "a lot" of music
  • sounded "good enough"

I am going to go with my 256 XS. I had it almost 4 years and it was solid and great to use. I just moved to a 256 12 mini to try out the mini form factor. The XS has 75o cycles on it and still has 85% battery health. It has been my trusty companion for quite a while and it hurt putting it aside.

With the Thanksgiving holiday set to take place in the United States tomorrow, we thought we'd ask MacRumors readers about their preferred Apple products, both from 2022 and earlier.

Do you love the HomePod mini with its Apple Music integration, the Apple TV for bringing you your favorite content, or the Mac for getting work done? Let us know what Apple product you rely on most in the comments below.

Beyond what you already own, what are you planning to get in 2023, and what are you most looking forward to?

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate the holiday from all of us here at MacRumors.

Apple Watch transformed my life completely. It encourages me to do workouts with gamification of “closing the rings”. As silly as it may sound, the consistency got me down from 230lbs (overweight, lazy with low energy all day) to 150lbs (doing cardio along with lifting, basically crossfits)

Now I’m more fit, able to run 10K non stop, with more muscle mass to boot.

I can’t emphasis enough how thankful I am with the Watch.

IPod, iPhone, iPad in that order. All were unique in their day. I really like my Macs but they are really just more reliable PCs!
