What are 3 things that you have purchased that improved your quality of life?

3 from this list:
  1. Automobile
  2. Convertible sporty automobile
  3. Swimming pool
  4. Kreepy Krauly Pool cleaner
  5. Microwave
  6. Central AC
  7. Latex mattress
  8. Electric lawn mower
  9. MacBookPro
  10. Gaming computer/ high speed internet
  11. Large Screen 4K TV
  12. iPhone
  13. iPad

  1. A travel shoe horn. It's so much easier to put on my shoes even when I'm away from home.
  2. Backpacks with hip belt. Since most of the weight is transferred to my hip, I no longer suffer from sore shoulders when hauling loads like MacBooks and plenty of water.
  3. A lightweight rain jacket. It's always in my backpack, I don't have to worry about bumping into others with an umbrella, and no excuse not to go for a walk when it's raining!
  1. Toto Bidet - I splurged on a bidet earlier this year. It has a proximity sensor that automatically opens the lid. I was hesitant about the idea of water washing down there but boy I was wrong... I miss it whenever I travel...

The pulsating function is strangely satisfying...

Oh yeah. But here always a contest between who notices first that it's harvest time... the birds or the humans. I'm willing to share, or so the rascals usually manage to inform me in leaving a few treasures behind when I forget to keep track every day as the fruit ripens. It's a kick watching an oriole sample a cherry and then shake its head, like "ughhh, not quite there yet!"

Once in awhile a bear ventures down off the ridge behind my meadow so I don't keep the berry bushes anywhere near as close to hand as I used to do. o_O

Woah! We have deer that come into our pastures, but our dogs typically scare them off before they make it as far as the garden.

1; Apple Watch. Use it every day and track my activity. Also regularly use the stopwatch on it.

2; My 65" OLED TV and surround sound speakers (Bowers & Wilkins)

3; Kindle Oasis.

Okay all you bidet people - an actual bidet, or one that can attach to your toilet? And, if you have one that attaches to your toilet, which one?

During my time I can only lists several life changing during my time:

1. Cash Machines!
2. The Internet politically let loose to the market, during the 1st Bush US President!
3. The firsts Home computers!

Tough for me to narrow things down to 3 , so choose 1each from group a , b , and c .
Just like ordering Chinese , except no egg roll with the combo.

1a : a Bunn coffee maker . Got a hot well that makes great coffee almost instantly and in multi cup amounts ; unlike a Keurig.
2a: Microwave
3a: Honda lawnmower . Just works , always.

1b : My workshop ( all the tools taken as a group)
2b : Subaru Outback
3b : dishwasher

1c : Tracfone flip phone . It's cheap ,fits in my pocket , makes calls when I'm away from home ,seems to have a signal everywhere.Don't need much else from a phone.
2c : Decent internet/wifi
3c: Snowblower

2) A tool belt. When I started helping my brother with home improvements and building stuff, he insisted I wear a tool belt. Being a novice, I didn't see much use for one. I didn't want to be a poser. But over the years, I've come to understand the convenience not having to go back to the tool box/floor/table for whatever tool I need to do a repair. Now I don't change a light bulb without putting on a tool belt.:D
3) A photographer's vest. When I was an active photographer, this was a lifesaver. To be able to quickly switch from my 70-200 2.8 to my 24-70 2.8 to my 50 1.4 was the difference between getting THE shot and talking about almost getting THE shot. Fish stories of the one that got away, yada yada yada.;) I've got several, from over sized (60 pockets) to the smaller 20 pocket one. It was billed as a fishing(in beige)/tacticool(in black) vest.

I was surprised we already owned one before all this started ... though oddly it was outside ...

1. Mountainbike - I get to experience the great outdoors, while enjoying a good dose of adrenaline and staying healthy.

2. Convertible sports car - Even a trip to the supermarket becomes fun! (and takes a minimum of 2 hours...)

3. AirPods & iPhone Combo - GAME CHANGERS.

70 bucks canadian.
In times of crisis, smart people will look for solution, rather than become part of the problem (and line up for toilet paper). 😁
Quick look at amazon, there’s lots of brands including a portable usb charger.

1. My first car. I was 16 and it was a horrible thing, but I loved it and it was mine. Gave me the freedom to go where I wanted and play my tapes loud without complaints from the family!
2. iPhone 4. My first iPhone and transformed my life. I could never go back to old dumb phones anymore.
3. DSLR Camera. Started my interest in photography, getting out more and generally taking an interest in things I hadn't before.
4. QC Noise cancelling headphones. Made public transport soooo much more bearable.
5. An engagement ring for my wife of 22 years. Worth every penny (about £28 in case you were wondering).
6. iMac. My first Mac and so glad to say goodbye to Windows. Although I have to say things in the Apple ecosystem aren't as good as they were.
7. iPod Nano. I can get him many songs on it? Are you kidding me. A big change from the 12-15 you could get on a CD.
8. First House. What? My mortgage payments are less than I was paying in rent and I get to live rent free eventually? Yippee!
9. Second house. I can trade in my 2 bed flat in London for a 3 bed detached house with a garden and reduce my mortgage! Yippee!
10. My current house. Moved in 6 months ago today. A lovely bungalow in the country to spend my remaining days in with Mrs AFB! Beautiful garden and interior (well it will be when its finished!)

Trout spey rod - COVID-19 sale reduced price from $600 to $340. Planning my next trip to fly fish the rivers in the US since I won't be travelling internationally for awhile.

Breville airfryer / pizza / dehydrator oven - got that to make awesome meals while our state is still in "shelter in place". Plus it was 30% off $400.

Dog harnesses
for walking our dogs twice a day reducing strain on our arms. Never walked so much during this pandemic.

Gardening / vegetable plants - created a huge backyard garden this year and to

Ammunition - ready for the next zombie apocalypse - got shipped directly: tens of thousands of ammunition during the short 36 hour injunction to our silly state law requiring background checks as if criminals actually get them legally....

  • My house - no more rent
  • My first motorcycle - indirectly led to how I met my girlfriend and a whole heap of other great friendships over the past 15 years
  • My coffee machine

A few things that I've recently(ish) acquired that have made a big difference already.

1. A rotary hammer. I already had a cordless hammer drill, but when drilling concrete you simply can't beat a proper rotary hammer. Accept no substitutes. As I'm sure my neighbors would agree.

2. Guitar + multi effect / amp modeler. Keeps me sane, plain and simple. Also, since the multi effect can obviously be used with headphones as well as connected to my receiver, that's another one in the win column for the neighbors as I like to noodle on the guitar if I can't sleep at night. Like right now.

3. A new set of furniture for my balcony. Since the weather's been getting nicer (although it did snow here today..) I've been spending a lot of time on the balcony. Drinking coffee, and other things, and just listening to music and enjoying the fresh air.

You want one that is fully integrated with the toilet like a premium Toto Washlet.

The good ones have proximity sensors and will raise the lid when you approach the toilet. They will also preheat the water (since it's usually from a cold water line). Hell, some of them will start playing music.

The traditional European style bidets are completely inferior and a waste of precious bathroom real estate. Plus they require a full set of water lines. And you are uncomfortably hover squatting.

And I cannot sing enough praises about heated seats when you need to use the toilet in the dead of a cold winter night. No more freezing cheeks.

When I renovate my bathroom, I will buy the best.

Of a long list, three things that have improved my quality of life come to mind at the moment:

Apple Watch - among other things, it has helped me to measurably increase my overall level of physical activity. Coupled with my iPhone, it is an awesome tool. No pic, as you know what they look like.

LL Bean Original Field Coat - a three season longish canvas coat, in green. My SO gave it to me as a birthday or christmas present, can’t remember, and it’s easily my favorite piece of clothing. I wear it around the farm, in town, and to work in the office. It resists abrasion and does not readily show dirt. I think it’s stylish, in a rural, basic, and functional sort of way. Kind of like Carhartt clothes. Odd as it may sound, it gives me great pleasure to wear it.

A performance sedan - certainly not the fastest, most expensive, best looking, or whatever, but to me it looks and drives wonderfully. I admire it anytime I walk out to the yard; after parking it at a store, I usually turn around and glance back at it. It brings a smile to my face when I’m behind the wheel, driving and sometimes, though not always, listening to its pretty decent sound system. With a recent modification to the power plant, it does what it did in even more robust fashion.

As for a bidet, after reading the comments here, and watching a video on savage geese, of all places, I can easily see having one

I should add that the art - prints, and one original oil on canvas painting - would be right up there as well.

Love that coat, I have the women's in a dark cranberry hue, think they don't have quite that same one any more but it has been and remains very durable. I wear it when tackling berry bushes to take out the oldest canes and it might as well be body-shaped welding gloves, nothing seems to faze it.
