I have the plus version of the phone and although I carry it in my front pocket, when I'm wearing jeans it's very tight. I could see me ditching the phone a lot:

- When I go out to dinner
- When I go to the beach
- When I go to a sporting event or concert
- When I go for a bike ride

Basically, I could see me with just the watch in any circumstance where the only reason I'm taking my phone is to ensure I'm not missing something important.

Agree for the most part except I love taking pics and that's the biggest reason I always have my phone.

On my lunch break at work and at the gym.

I assume it can be used for 911 calls without a plan etc so not a total loss. Also nude beach. Not me just sayin.

When I’m working out in the yard

When I’m running

When I accidentally leave my iPhone at home.

When I take a quick walk around the block just to get off my butt at work.

When I go out on a date with my wife and dress up. A) a big phone bulge in your pocket looks dorky B) my wife HATES if she catches me looking at my iPhone on a date.

Totally this. Also like to add: when I accidentally leave my phone at my desk. Got trapped in the stairwell once. Totally wished I could've used my watch to call someone to open the door.

I always have my phone. I can't think of a time I would walk around town without my phone.

How and in what instances would being without a phone be good?

Many times a day.

Walking a dog.
Going out for errand near home.
Going out for lunch.
Running.
Swimming.
Working out in gym.

etc.

Basically anytime I'm out of my house for less than an hour that's not work related I won't bring the phone along.

I understand what your saying and agree to an extent, but I dont know if todays iPhones are mainly for the reason you suggest. Its a huge part of it, but the phone is such a toolbox of things now, we use it for absolutely everything. One doesnt just use it to be notified of texts and make calls to friends and family. It is essentially a lifeline for billions of people in the world. They use it for absolutely everything.

Right, and I understand how it's the sole computing device for millions of people, too.

But I don't need to use my phone as a music metronome, or photo editor, or Facebook skimmer, or gaming gadget, or study aid, or news reader, or pizza order-er, or podcast player, or navigation aid when I'm just going out and about.

I mainly carry the phone so that my wife or my job can reach me. If a watch can do the same thing, then do I really need the phone? (and do I need to risk damaging or losing a fabulous iPhone X?)

I have been tracking handheld devices since the Palm Pilot. Just as the iPhone was revolutionary to the phone/handheld market, I think the watch will be revolutionary in how it changes our lives now.

Absolutely this... a lot of the time if I have my phone I'm tempted to waste time on it and not pay attention to things and experiences I should be focusing on and enjoying more. I think the LTE watch will be a good way to wean myself back off them. Games and browsing reddit/forums can be especially addictive. Getting into an argument with someone you don't even know, more so. Being able to remove the distractions without becoming unreachable... there's a good argument for it.

I love my iPhone.

I love it so much that I use up the battery in my phone and its battery case even with the brightness on 25% and on low power mode.

I want to way to keep in touch with people so that I can leave my phone at home during the workday. The watch does this.

Also, with LTE on Apple Watch, if you have the AirPods, you can stream your music directly from your Apple Watch to the AirPods without being tethered to your iPhone.

I work in a school. I don't want to carry my phone with me every time I walk out of my room - but there are too many times I need it. I'll be happy to leave my phone in my purse and not take it out at all during the day. I have my Mac and my iPad on my desk - I don't need the phone out unless I leave the room - which I do frequently.

I'll be able to leave the phone home when I go out to dinner and when I go shopping. I can leave the phone in my purse if I walk down to the mailbox. When I do anything where I won't need the camera!

The main reason is when I wonder out of wifi range playing with my dogs. I'm Oncall 24/7 and I'm always paranoid I will miss a page out. Also when I visit my office they have crappy wifi so it would be nice to not have to carry 2 phones with me. I can leave them at my desk and know even if the wifi fails (it often does) I can still be reached if I've wondered into a different part of the building.

Cheers,
Bobbie

especially with the iPhone x. You are going to be paying at minimum 1000 plus. Seems odd to leave that item at home that you just spent 1k on. That said the watch itself at SS price points is now almost similar. 700 plus. Plus a monthly data plan in additional to anything else.
More reason to leave a 1k device at home. Do you want that thing getting stolen.

For me, the gym will be the main place I will use the AW3 LTE sans phone. I currently have an 7+, and while I am "downsizing" to the X, streaming music and carrying around my phone in gym shorts sucks. I'm not a gym selfie poster, so I'll be just fine without the camera (ha). Being able to not carry the phone, and have my kids be able to get a hold of me in an emergency is additional peace of mind. Although knowing my ex wife can as well goes into the minus column. :)

I haven't had an AW since series 1 and this is the main feature bringing me back. I don't think it will be an "all day" wear for me (love my Omega too much), but it will for sure be a daily wear when I'm at the gym or on a run with the dog.

I wanted the Space Black so I have pre-ordered the LTE version. I am going to try the LTE and see if it is useful. When I am at work I use my iPad Pro most of the time rather than my phone, so it may be useful just to have the watch and iPad. We will see!

I just got back from a lunchtime run with my airpods and my iPhone 7 in my running belt. It will be nice with the AW3 to have the option of ditching the running belt and my phone. Of course, on this particular workout, I listened to an Audible audiobook, which apparently is still not supported on the AW, but I digress . . .

Getting an S3 cellular means I will probably not upgrade to the iPhone X. With the S3, I will probably not bring my phone about 1/3 of the time. Running, hanging out on the beach, walking the dogs, going to the gym, many different types of social occasions, playing golf, biking, running quick errands, etc.

Yea - I rarely take pics so there's the difference. In fact, taking pictures didn't even cross my mind, however, for a lot of people you're right that it's a huge difference. Just wait, soon enough the watch will have a camera

Golf, running, cycling, swimming, yard work, office, gym workouts, walking, going to the movies, tons of things - oh and being lazy on the couch or playing PS4.

My iPhone 7+ is paid in full and can be bulky in a pocket for all of those things but can be left in my car, desk, or at home without a care in the world if I have my AT&T linked Apple Watch on my wrist. I don’t want an 8\8+ or an X. Plus I believe you get 3 months free of cellular which is more than enough time to test its limits.

A few I can think of that I'll use it for (If tmobiles throttled speeds dont prevent it anyway...) - seeing a movie, going to the grocery store, going to an amusement park where I don't want to worry the entire roller coaster ride about my thousand dollar phone flying out of my pocket and kind of ruining the moment, sky diving (I kid, kind of), at work where your phone is left/forgot on your desk (many people work at places where they have an office but are out and about on factory floors, retail environments, large campuses, etc), traveling for long periods of time in airports and leaving your phone off and in your bag, and my favorite reason of all, disconnecting on a Saturday and leaving the phone at home.

Few instances for me. Going on a hike where it is slippery and not wanting to fall and break my phone. Bike rides I often go without the phone. The gym I don’t like the phone taking up space although there I am usually on WiFi. I can run a quick errand without grabbing the phone

Like someone else said, I plan to use the LTE Watch to help me spend less time on my phone and more time on the rest of the world. My work days are busy and crazy, and I want to try to spend less of my non-work time with my eyes on a screen. If the phone isn't in my hand or pocket, I am definitely going to achieve this.
