Like someone else said, I plan to use the LTE Watch to help me spend less time on my phone and more time on the rest of the world. My work days are busy and crazy, and I want to try to spend less of my non-work time with my eyes on a screen. If the phone isn't in my hand or pocket, I am definitely going to achieve this.

That was me...and we can do this! :)

For me - going to a water park. I leave my phone in the locker and wear the watch. I would do the same thing at a regular amusement park as some rides make it a bit uncomfortable with the phone in the pocket. I may leave the phone at home if I went for a walk or bike around the neighborhood too.

But, are any of these enough for me to spend $10/mo more just for the convenience of using the watch? Nope, not at all. I might bite for $5/mo. Might.

Same, I get a bit tired of social media and harms productivity. I'll try and use my watch as my new phone and have my phone simply for downloading apps onto the Watch or watching stuff.

Hi all

New AW user (or soon will be when I order my series 3) am I right in thinking, that if I don't have the Cellular model, I can still received texts, calls etc on my AW if I'm in a wi-fi network that my phone has previously connected to?

Yes that’s correct.

Actually not sure about calls if your phone is not nearby. iMessage will work however.

During long walks with the dog or when I'm just out jogging. I'd love to be able to tell Siri to remind me about things, and be able to send texts to my SO.

I have the plus version of the phone and although I carry it in my front pocket, when I'm wearing jeans it's very tight. I could see me ditching the phone a lot:

- When I go out to dinner
- When I go to the beach
- When I go to a sporting event or concert
- When I go for a bike ride

Basically, I could see me with just the watch in any circumstance where the only reason I'm taking my phone is to ensure I'm not missing something important.

This! I won't even need my phone. I was thinking I could pair the watch with my truck radio too. Could drive around stream music never even have the phone.

Many reasons. Don’t like running with more than my watch and Bluetooth earbuds. Never out of touch with anyone. Working on the yard or mowing, why carry your phone shoved in your pocket? Golfing, swimming, walking around work, boating, etc.

I still get people wanting to carry their phone as I do that myself most times. But emergencies and never out of touch. Not worried if you forget your phone, not carrying a phone in the heat or dirty/sweaty work, yard work, etc.

Just being able to wear your watch and Bluetooth headphone and can do anything and basically everything your phone can do is a huge plus. You spend a $1000 on a phone, why not keep it safe from things that can damage or losing it is a nice idea.

I have to have 2 separate phones. Google voice did not work for me as a good solution. This way I can carry just one phone and use the watch for the other.

1) Running without my phone. I can't wait for this.

2) Leaving my phone at my desk at work most of the day. I will still get emails and notifications now instead of it just being a brick when I walk down to talk to a colleague.

I travel a lot for work, and enjoy swimming when possible. I have an original Apple Watch, so thinking this upgrade offers two benefits: water resistance as well as not needing to take my phone with me to the pool.

If you're going to leave your phone at home, what's the point in spending 1k on it?

You may as well buy the iPhone SE for much less ($349 for 32GB, $449 for 128GB) and leave it at home.

With the money you save, you can upgrade your watch!
Exactly my point. Why blow 1k on a phone with unproven Face ID. Wait for series 2 when they iron out the bugs.

I have a work issued phone that I can't use for any personal needs but need on me majority of the time to make and receive calls (including during leisure or fitness activities). That being said, having an AW with cellular paired with my personal phone would decrease the situations where I would need to carry two devices on me.

I'd use it a couple of times a week when I go cycling once they support my Vodafone corporate tariff. Be nice not to have to wedge my phone into a belt around my waist under my Lycra jersey.

Calls get relayed for sure while on the same WiFi network.

Once I forgot my phone at home, but then realized the Watch was still connected via the car's onboard WiFi hotspot (connected to 3G). Did not receive a phone call or text message in that situation, but the Watch showed connection via cloud symbol. Same was true when being on WLAN at my parents-in-law's place, while the the phone was at home.

Given sufficient bandwidth, I could imagine calls being forwarded even over different WLAN's, though I haven't tried that yet.

Depends on the network. If it's open WiFi, no problem. If it's a network like I have at work, then it's no dice since you have to authenticate on the device. Not even sure if you could count on the WiFi at Starbucks since you always have to accept to connect.

I'm not even sure why I would need a phone if and when I get a AW3? Will the AW3 work completely independent of a phone?
you need an iphone to set it up. after that, you can run around without the phone and just the watch on the wrist.

Living in Orlando, I go to the theme parks and water parks quite often. When I go to a water park, I leave my phone in the car. And some roller coasters at Universal Studios have a metal detector at the entrance so you can't even bring a phone to wait in line with you.

I'm always supposed to be available via phone or text. Having LTE on the watch will lower my anxiety of being without my phone.

And while we have WiFi at work, it's not always reliable. Now I'll be able to leave the phone in my office whenever I step out.

$10/month is worth the peace of mind to me.
