What are you doing for Valentine's Day?

Valentine's Day is Feb. 14, just a week away. Almost everyone has a great Valentine's Day story or two (be it a "best ever" or a "worst ever" - feel free to share either way), and some people start planning for it months in advance. And then of course, there are those who think of Valentine's as just another Hallmark Holiday, used to separate their money from their wallets... Question: What are your plans for Valentine's Day this year?

I'm one of those that hates Valentines Day but always ends up doing something anyways, lol. I do think it's a pointless holiday if you want to call it that. Most likely well go out for a nice dinner.

I'm keeping it simple. Taking my wife to dinner and a movie. Nothing major but it's nice to go out every now and then. This year's budget is tight as I was laid off from work recently. But I want to do something special for her so I am taking her to one of her favorite places and we will probably end up going to see a chick flick but I'm okay with that. :)

I'm going out to the closest bar, because if the girls are there....they are not taken...

Haven't thought about it yet but I'll probably invite one of my girls over, go out for a simple dinner, then prepare a chocolate fondue at home with some cherries, strawberries, bananas, pineapple and marshmallows. Then give her my d*** in a box.

We won't be doing anything as the lady of the house insists it's a piece of worthless commercialism invented by sugar salesmen, so I'll be enjoying some netflix and she'll be glaring at me in secret anger for not having taken her out someplace extravagant anyway.

My husband, repeatedly. I can't think of a better way to spend the day. Free fun FTW!

No really. I don't really see the need for forced-romantic gestures via spending money just because Hallmark and other such greedy retailers/restaurants think we should. So if it's a day to celebrate lurrrrve, that's what we're going to do, but without contributing to the financial farce.

First point: You don't have to pay for that in your country? (Note to self: Move to where iBlue lives).

Second point: I totally. If people need a greeting card to express their love for another, then they have a problem. Valentine's day should be about showing your love, not artificially, but in other ways, such as, I don't know, human contact? It's pretty underrated these days.

[say in voice of Oprah]

If your Valentine's Day 'lover' asks you out on Facebook, MSN etc. that's a deal breaker ladies!

Seriously, if you are considering doing this, man/woman up and ask them out in person. It will make it more sincere, more meaningful and they will appreciate it more.

We have horseback riding class every Sunday morning. Probably watch a movie in the afternoon and taking her to the most romantic restaurant in Toronto according opentable. I made reservations 3 weeks ago and I still couldn't get the time I want.

I did that one year, my friend and I thought it was the best idea ever. Did not end well.

If there is one single girl on the planet that you're hoping to avoid, there's an 85% chance she will be at that bar too. Just sayin'.

Probably awkwardly wondering if we've been hanging out long enough to make a big deal about Valentine's Day or if it'd just be weird.

Meh, screw romantic spontaneity, that's probably worth bringing up beforehand.
