Will use similar to my AW 7, but with longer batter life won't have to recharge as often. Will continue to use my Garmin Epix Gen 2 for fitness.

I posted this list in another thread, but it's relevant to this one as well. Here are several things that illustrate why the Ulta is better when considering for skiing:
  • All day activity tracking
  • Improved GPS to make your activity tracking just that much more accurate
  • Cellular connection to stay in touch with family and friends while on the slopes
  • Ability to call for help if you fall and get hurt, or wander off the run and get a bit lost
  • Better microphones so you can actually be heard while sitting on a chair lift in windy conditions
  • Ability to access resort maps
  • Easier to use while wearing gloves
  • Confidence that your battery will last even while enjoying an après ski cocktail
  • Still have enough battery left to do some night skiing if you're at a resort setup for that
  • Do ALL of this while leaving your phone behind entirely and not have to worry about battery life for a full day of skiing
  • Detect if I get into a crash going to/from the slopes because some jerkwad decided it was a good idea to go down a mountain pass at 80MPH in a blizzard because "MUST GET FIRST CHAIR!"
Keep in mind that this list is meant to be considered in totality. While the Series 8 can do most of these things, the Ultra is better when you consider wanting to do ALL of them on a single charge without the need to constantly wonder if your battery is going to die before the end of the day.
  • A pathetic cry for attention

exactly. even my current 45mm, GPS-only, S7 sometimes is very low on power if I've had a long day, maybe did a 30-45 min GPS tracked workout etc. to the point I'm concerned it won't make it. I've even had sometimes where I have to go power save or it won't. Then sometimes it finished with 40%. Who knows but I always have to "think about it."

my hope is my Ultra allows me to have cellular, all tracking (listening for sounds from car crashes to hand washing), and any regular workout I do and just simply NEVER worry about battery in a single day. I just want to do ANY normal (if I do a marathon or something, that is different) day with any and all features turned on and never, ever, worry about making it to the end of the day full stop. I'll still charge daily.
Right me too. I can top off the battery when I brush my teeth x 2 and shower x 1-2, per day 5-10 mins at a time and be done with battery woes.

Not a big watch guy however I do love the tech. So for my watch, I want it to do something more than tell me time. I'd like to get a bit more active as I've gotten quite lazy due to the pandemic. So the techie features, day to day use, as well as inspiration to go workout are my reasons for using the watch.

I’ll be using it as a backup dive computer.

It’s never replace my Shearwater and I expect to take it below 40m and on decompression dives so it’ll be interesting to see what happens.

For my shallower dives though, it’ll be more useful.

People somehow think the Ultra can "do" more. It really can't for the most part. It just does the same things with a different style and with less battery consequences.
I know the Ultra is just an S8 in a different housing.. So I'm not expecting IT to do more...

But you saw the videos at the event right?

I expect THAT I will be able to run across deserts and dive in the ocean and climb mountains - even though I've never done those before - that's the impression I got from the event.

Who doesn't want to be able to do that!?!?

I'm so excited!

😅

Hiking, biking, nothing extreme. I want that big bright screen!
The screen is brighter (although Series 7 has always been very bright under any lighting condition for me). But it is hardly bigger than 45mm.

Here's 41mm to 45mm to 49mm comparison:

I scuba dive a couple times a year, am a pretty active hiker (hike maybe 60 days out of the year), and am starting to get into more extreme outdoor stuff (eg multi-day backpacking, advanced hiking like the Grand Canyon, etc.). I think the Ultra could be a good companion for all of these.

I already have a Series 8 but considering getting an Ultra for outdoors stuff that might come up every one in a while. Also it might be good when I do dance games for several hours and not worry about the battery afterwards. I'm almost thinking of wearing the Series 8 around the house and normal stuff but if I go out wearing the Ultra do I don't have to worry about battery life (also if I am on small trips) . I'm almost hoping the Ultra isn't much bigger than the 45mm and I might just return the Series 8. Not decided yet since but might have a chance to snag on Friday (the Ultra)

Avid hiker/mountaineer. I go on 12-hour+ day hikes off-trail and scrambling up mountains, regularly ending up with 20% battery. It will be nice not to worry about that.

The built-in siren will spare me should I find myself in another situation where I have to use my whistle. The Action Button will also be very practical for all those winter adventures when using a touchscreen with gloves on gets super annoying.

I’m also recovering from knee injuries and hope to start competing in road races again. The L5 GPS band will hopefully get rid of those teleports while running between tall buildings.

Can’t wait for this new Watch!

Golf. Golfshot app takes at least 50% of my battery on my S7 after 18 holes.

Random but do you guys think signing up for cellular is worth it? I’ve been thinking about signing up with my carrier especially for going out for runs without my phone.
I like cellular. I find that I carry my phone less. Especially nice not having to carry the phone to receive notifications.

As for the watch itself, I'm not at all a great athlete but we do a fair amount of hiking which will benefit from the better GPS/sat connectivity.

Also I'm going to enjoy using the loud siren to wake up my teenagers.

Just use it like a normal Apple Watch and enjoy the benefit of not needing to recharge that often.
This! depending on what bands looks good on it too. I still have my S7 Titanium that looks brand new with SB Milanese band. Nice to have choices, but the Ultra will see the deep ocean with me for sure!
