My favorite new pop star of 2018 drops her dubut LP on March 8th.. so she'll likely take the crown for 2019, too.

Ah, of course, Easter is so late this year that Carnival is taking place later than expected as well. I usually assume that it will occur around mid February.

That looks like a wonderful selection of music.

Oh it is overall, it's very jolly. But the playlist does contain a few rap tracks I elected not to download, as the lyrics were definitely NSFW or for my living room either. I'm still having fun with my re-curated list.

Yah Easter is very late this year. "Mardi Gras" here amounts to a big pancake breakfast at the firehall to benefit the charitable efforts of the volunteer EMS and firefighters, and underwrite the kids' events they put on for various holidays. Too cold for those Fat Tuesday parades and floats though, for sure, no matter when the date hits the calendar in northern climes.

Germany, Austria and the Balkans - where it is still cold on Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday - have a long tradition of Carnival processions and floats, (in some cities going back to the Middle Ages) some bitingly satirical of authority, power and privilege.

Likewise, I'd be surprised if Spain didn't also have such a tradition.

This morning seems to be meant for meaningful music, for some reason. Everything just hit me today in the music choices. Give a listen.

We're just chicken then. :D But I'm not entirely sure at least Spain's idea of cold weather matches up to ours over here in the dead of winter. -20F overnight is not all that unusual. It's the sort of weather parents don't even let their kids wait on a school bus, and schools don't mind kids skipping as long as the parent phones in the intended absence. Mardi Gras parades,,,, uh no. Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and that's that, followed immediately that evening by the traditional quandary over what to "give up" for Lent (and the way I go for the pancakes, it should definitely be pancakes I forego during the season).

My music today past continuing forays into my Mardi Gras preview runs to some Haydn String Quartets and a few other things I never ripped from CD to iTunes and so have them here in a pile ready to work on.

Since I rarely listen to anything having lyrics and human vocals in it, these days I am enjoying with Aphex Twin.

"Selected Ambient Works", vol.1 and vol.2 send me on journey and make me forget everything. :)

Before that, I was on journey with Carbon Based Lifeforms. Their stuff is amazing.

I am one of those people who has hard time answering when someone asks "what kind of music do you listen to"?
