Tracks from Canadian-Caribbean songwriter/singer and banjo player Kaia Kater's first album, Sorrow Bound, and her most recent release, Grenades. She's slated to perform in concert up a few townships from here over the weekend but I already had made a family commitment when I heard about it... that's the way of it all during summertime, at least up here. We're all snow- and icebound over winter and then in summer we practically have to spin a bottle or throw darts to pick from all the options that pop up...

Here's an NPR Tiny Desk link for a performance earlier this year:

I get a distinct 90s vibe from those covers.

Yeah I don't get the cover of Grenades. Reminds me of some Devandra Banhart gig or similar throwback to the semi-psychedelic New Weird America genre etc. Totally not representative of the music on the Grenades album.

Think the cover might be... I dunno... inside baseball. Like poems where the title doesn't seem related to the body of the work but was clearly somehow significant to the author. Intriguing but annoying at the same time.. maybe I'll find a photo of her that I like and replace the artwork!

Fun stuff. I went on a roll with older King Crimson (I love the Adrian Belew / Levin / Fripp era, but it's more experimental, and less "classic" prog rock), mostly Court and Starless, lossless rips from my remastered CDs.

Yes, that King Crimson is great stuff. Have you been downloading the weekly 50th anniversary releases? Two tracks every week. One is commentary about the track and the second the song itself. They are up to week 35 or so now.

Just to correct my statement about the 50th anniversary weekly releases. Today (Aug. 23) #33 was released.

No?! What the heck, that wasn't even on my radar! o_O

Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road
Quite possibly my all-time favorite song. Good listening for a warm summer night.

Great song. I think The River (from the album of the same name) is hard to beat for the images it evokes, the feelings of lust, love, dreams and dreams shattered by life's events and the sad recollection of those innocent earlier times. So much so well and simply stated in 5 minutes.

Yeah, my semi-debatable/controversial pick for best Springsteen album is absolutely The River.

Greatest song ever.... it all comes together nice.
