Charles Ives - Symphony No. 2


Could listen to this music all day. In this movement Ives synthesizes American folk music in a way Dvorak could've only dreamed of. (And there is certainly a bit of humor on Ives' part). Just wait until that final chord!

OK, this is going to be a little long, and part of it is "kind of" off topic. So, here goes.

On msn.com earlier today, this was a story there:


Many, many fantastic songs on that list. When I saw "Eve of Destruction" on there, I had not heard it in a while, and had to listen to it. But I also remember hearing it used in an excellent TV series. Well, sure enough, it was used in the truly excellent and factual PBS series The Vietnam War, by Ken Burns. I have watched it at least 3 times, and will most likely watch it again soon.

Anyway, here is Eve of Destruction in that series:
