Played this classic arrangement of Zarathustra yesterday. We didn't have a drummer, (just me, two horns, and a bass player), so that kinda sucked, but it was still a lot of fun!

You don't always need a drummer.

A good bass player - as you will find in a great many Baroque arrrangements, or some modern jazz trios - will do double duty as rhythm.

In fact, in Baroque music, the bass line also sets the rhythm (take a listen to Laetatus Sum by Monteverdi to see - or, rather, hear - what I mean).
