Wait.. Did Bond put out a new album?!?

BL.

Yes, and here's some more releases from them - they seem to be busy with a lot...

I'm all over this! I've been on them since their first album, and saw them twice on their first tour. I thought they had taken a long break after Haylie left and Elspeth joined. The last I heard was them doing four separate releases of Vivaldi's Four Seasons.. but if they're back, you just got me my next purchase, and blind purchase at that!

The sweetest arrangement of "Like Someone in Love" I've ever heard! From Dave McKenna's 1956 debut album Solo Piano, on ABC-Paramount records. He released another album on Chiaroscuro Records in 1973 with the same title, which I've posted here before

Sergei Rachmaninov - Piano Concerto No 2 in C Minor.

@rm5: If you haven't listened to this - all three movements - you haven't lived. Find the time to listen to this.

My (late) father (who loved music and who had music in his soul) adored this piece.

And yes, I love it, also.
Oh god, sorry I never saw this! My apologies! I listened to the whole thing at one point a while ago, but I should listen to it again!

On that note, have you heard Symphony Fantastique? Totally different, but well worth a listen imo. Someone recently turned me onto it, it's great!

Agreed, it is great.

Another piece my father loved was Dance of the Hours (used in Disney's Fantasia, but that wasn't why he loved it) from the ballet La Gioconda by Ponchielli.

rm5: if you're beginning to explore classical works, here are some random thoughts (taking into account you're a keyboardist into jazz, as well):

An album by the name of Giakonda's Smile (sometimes spelt, Giaconda's Smile) by the amazing Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis.

My parents fell in love with this music on an unforgettable holiday (one of many) to Greece - that particular holiday was taken in Crete which they adored - in the early 1980s, and returned with a tape of this music, which they played so often that - not surprisingly - it eventually wore out.

Several years later, (almost two decades later), when I was in Greece (receiving pre-deployment briefings prior to heading to Kosovo to supervise - and not just observe - elections - yes, that mission's mandate was an executive one, one where I had executive authority, which means that I ran and supervised the elections in conjunction with local staff and had to sign off on the election protocols), I came across this piece of music, this time as a CD, which I immediately bought.

My parents were delighted, and we were able to play it again, listen to it again, and appreciate it afresh.

A few more from Greece:

Eleni - Kostas Mantzios.

Ragizi Apopse - Children of the Revolution

Fanfare for Charon (from the soundtrack to Who Pays The Ferryman?) by Yannis Markopoulos

A few songs from the legendary (late) Serb singer (composer/song-writer) Toma Zdravković.
For some reason, seeing that name made me think of Zmei3. Weird, I had totally forgotten that I have their disc...maybe it was the "Z" in the name. It's not like their music, location, or period are similar in any way!

I just had a look at the streaming version of the album...you know it has to be great (even without a deeply meaningful personal connection like yours) because Quincy Jones produced it.

My parents wanted "good" modern Greek music that wasn't Theordakis (which they liked, but they wanted something even better) and Greeks with whom they chatted (and ate, and drank with) - impressed that they seemed to be serious about this - recommended the music of Hadjidakis, specifically Giaconda's Smile.

This is a conversation that I have had with Greek colleagues in later years, and again, Hadjidakis was strongly recommended.

Actually, that time, when I came across his music, I bought several CDs, and not just Gaconda's Smile (which, however is still superb).
