Same! Now that you mentioned it, I had to listen to it again. It's been awhile since I last heard it
Excellent:

And, if you are still up to listening to more music from Ravel, have you ever listened to his wonderful piece "Pavane For A Dead Princess (Pavane Pour Une Infante Dêfunte)"?

OK, if y'all like Bolero, here's one of the all-time great dancers, Maya Plisetskaya, in a Maurice Béjart piece:

(and if you want a more recent performance with another all-time great, here's Sylvie Guillem's performance in her last-ever show)

Wow. Great performances.

Brilliant.

Thanks for sharing.

Since we are discussing dancing and the Bolero, I would also include the spell-binding performance by Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean in the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo where they ice-danced to the Bolero.

Superlative.

Public Image Ltd - End of the World. Their new album, quite enjoying it. I’m amazed they are still going and sounding like this

A welcome change from the rampant use and abuse of Carmen in all the artistic ice sports!
;-)

That record–and, honestly, most of their post-Album work–sure makes me miss having Wobble and Levine in the band. Lydon may "hate Pink Floyd" but is he a secret Rush fan?
;-)

Iggy Confidential

Iggy Pop's weekly show on BBC Radio 6.
I'm glad you posted that because (Z)Iggy is great, of course (no matter what Diane says) and I was a big fan of Randy Bachman's similar-format show on CBC Radio, Vinyl Tap.
:)

I've always been curious as to why there are so many "What are you listening to? Part (insert indecipherable Roman numeral here)". They don't seem to be based on genre, or even time periods. I'm not going to read thru the other 666 pages (uh-oh) on this particular thread, much less the lord-knows-how-many pages on Threads I thru XVII (that I know of).

Hopefully at 12:01 EST this coming New Year's Eve, someone (maybe I should set something on my calendar) to start a thread titled something like "What are you listening to? 2024". Just an idea.

Does that bother you?

Why not?

I have been introduced to some amazing music which has been recommended by others (on this forum, on this thread) that otherwise, I would never have known of, or thought to listen to.

Sometimes, it pays to take a trip out of your own (musical) comfort zone.

More to the point, a lengthy thread allows you to get to know people who post there, and to learn about them.

Thus, irrespective of my own musical preferences (which include Baroque, Beatles, Blur....), if someone I have come to rate and respect (re music) recommends a piece of music......well, then, I shall click on that post (link), and listen, (closely) to that piece of music.

Other, more (topical, if) ephemeral, stuff, I simply shrug off.

Why do this?

Is appreciation of, enjoyment of, music confined to a year?

Much of the music I like (listen to) is not just decades old, but is centuries old; thus, setting a (calendar/chronological) date of 2024 - while, perhaps, relevant in the context of computers and tech innovation - does not strike me as really relevant in the magnificent world of what music has to offer us.

Well, you've completely missed my point.

I'm just confused on why there are so many threads with the same info, but that jump all over the place, time-wise. I'd like to be able to see a thread "What are you listening to now?" with some kind of time-stamp on it, so it didn't jump back to 2013 or so. And, with a time stamp, I could suddenly discover that I wanted to learn about disco, and jump back to '78, or urban funk, and jump back to '83, or the Minneapolis sound and jump back to...; etc. And if I hear something new that others may be interested in, where do I post it??

... doesn't even warrant a response.

You've lost me.

Why is a time stamp necessary?
And if I hear something new that others may be interested in, where do I post it??

Okay:

Why not start your own thread?

Or, why not add your contribution - re musical preference or interest - to a thread that many (many) posters have already contributed to, some with fascinating and interesting posts?

Sigh.

Iggy Confidential

Iggy Pop's weekly show on BBC Radio 6. It can be found on BBC Sounds. A great show. He plays a very wide range of music and loves doing it. Highly recommended.
Thanks for this. I downloaded it and listened to it while out with the dog this morning, I think I have a new favourite radio show

Why does that matter? What's wrong with a long-running thread about music?

Anyway, here's Duke Ellington's "Isfahan," which I recently played:
