Okay, Vulfpeck are virtually unknown (I've mentioned them here before) but here's a clip of one of their songs, from a three-week sold-out series of shows, in some place called Madison Square Garden. But what I really want everyone to notice, is that the whole crowd is singing along with the disjointed instrumental break! There's hope for us yet!

Learned on CBS this morning that, between all band members, they have 76 Grammys!

Not hard to believe. Allison Krauss is supremely talented prodigy who only got better with age. Jerry Douglas is the best dobro player on the planet IMHO and it's not even close. Throw in everybody else and you have a bluegrass supergroup.

Don't know if you saw it but Rick Beato interviewed Allison a couple of weeks ago. Worth a listen.

Mexico And Mariachis - a (compilation) CD that I love.

Just a quick recommendation: if you want to explore Mexican music more, Arhoolie has a lot of great stuff.

Arhoolie was a small record shop and associated label in Northern California that specialized in "roots" and "world" music—in the same town that Creedence Clearwater Revival is from and I betcha an influence on John Fogerty—which sold its catalog to the Smithsonian Institution's record label when the owner retired. So all of its recordings are in good hands...at least for the moment, if you know what I (PRSI) mean.

Hopefully its releases are stocked in the UK since you prefer discs to streaming.

Big thumbs-up on Rocco, Victor and Jamerson (unfamiliar with Stu Hamm, and will definitely take a pass on MM).
You left out my favorite, Mark King of Level 42. Killer player who also sang lead while playing, not something I could do.

EDIT: Holy crap, can't believe I forgot Tony Levin!

I totally forgot Tony Levin and his funk fingers lol. Love his basslines especially with Peter G. I saw this clip of him pre-funk fingers where he's playing with PG playing Bigtime and he's doing his FF line with an actual drumstick. Such a neat sound & such a cool bassist :)

I thought long and hard about dropping Mark King in my list. Have you heard Wojtek Pilichowski? He totally reminds me of MK. Slap beasts that's for sure :)

Reminds me of a Far Side cartoon where Larry, in the orchestral percussion section, staring at his sheet music, waits for his Big Note, crashing two cymbals together, but he only has one on his hands, and he's saying to himself, "Don't screw up, DON'T screw up, Don't screw up"...
...and that exquisite caption: "Larry screws up"... :D

A few tracks from Paco Da Lucia (whom I had the privilege of seeing and hearing, play live): Río Ancho, Rumba Improvisada, Entre Dos Aguas, and La Cueva Del Gato.

One of the greatest - timeless - albums released in the past twenty five years - actually, given that it was recorded in 1996 - and released in 1997, - it was (is) closer to all of thirty years than a quarter of a century ago - and I had the inestimable and indescribable privilege of hearing them play live on one of their European tours:

The Buena Vista Club: The album of that name played by this legendary group after which the album is named; an album that deserves a place in any - and every - decent collection of music.

I loved, loved, loved The Far Side.

Thank you for the reminder; one of my favourite professors (he taught medieval history) used to have Far Side and Doonesbury cartoons on his office door....
