I just read an obituary for Chuck Mangione. I always thought of him as a pop musician and jazz-adjacent at best. But it turns out he had serious jazz cred! Cannonball Adderley got him a record contract. He was a member of the Jazz Messengers in the 60s. Diz gave him an upturned-bell trumpet. Can't get more real than that.

Long time favorite musician/composer from Rochester NY. I used hear him play at a lounge called the Other Side of the Tracks in Pittsford NY. He and his brother Gap plated at weddings and other local events back i the 60's. His first major concert was 'Friends and Love' and with Don Potter and Bat McGrath and the Rochester Symphony Orchestra.

Known best for his 1978 hit “Feels So Good,” Mangione brought jazz to the mainstream with a warm, melodic style that transcended genre. The track became a cultural landmark, earning a spot on countless playlists and radio stations, and helping launch his album of the same name into history as one of the most successful jazz records ever made.

But Mangione’s legacy went far beyond a single hit. His music became synonymous with major global moments.

His composition “Chase The Clouds Away” played at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, while “Give It All You Got” served as the theme for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. In total, he released more than 30 albums and earned two Grammy Awards—one for best instrumental composition in 1977 and another for best pop instrumental performance in 1979.

Stephen Colbert gave him a nice tribute last night:

One of my favorite artists and Black Sabbath is one of my favorite bands. While we knew it was coming, it was still felt. I have seen him way to many times to count, at Ozzfest, solo, with Black Sabbath etc. Always put on a good show.

While Mr. Crowley is my favorite song from him... this one comes in pretty darn close and it isn't even one of his "hits" if you will.

Ozzy Osbourne - Killer of Giants

RIP Mr. Osbourne... 😢

Ozzy was quite the showman, and

Ozzy smarter than he looked

"Osbourne had an estimated fortune of $220 million.

So, that alone would leave his family in pretty good financial standing, but they all have done pretty well for themselves, too.

The site also lists Sharon Osbourne’s net worth at $220 million, noting it’s a shared estimate with Ozzy, but it also lists her salary at $5 million. And Sharon has done well for herself in the media and entertainment world.

Meanwhile, Ozzy’s oldest daughter, Aimée Osbourne is worth an estimated $7 million. His other daughter, Kelly Osbourne, had an estimated net worth of $16 million, and his son, Jack Osbourne, has an estimated net worth of $15 million"

I've only seen Ozzy once in April 1982, during his "Diary of a Madman" tour at Madison Square Garden. It was one hell of a show. Ozzy, and Black Sabbath are some of my favorites too. The world will miss Ozzy....

I know this isn't music, but it sure made me have to hold back the tears...

These 3 sisters really know how to rock in the 21st century. Love it when I hit paydirt in my searches for new good rocking tunes.

They just found a new fan! I am totally digging this!!!!

While this band is not as heavy, Guano Apes is one of my favorites and this is one of my favorite songs from them. The climax and vocals towards the end always gets me!!!

Guano Apes - Scratch The Pitch

Glad you liked them. I haven't found anything that I don't like about them yet. Like to see them in concert. Watching one of their concerts right now and looks like they put on a hell of a show. Rock lives in the 21st century...

Edit: Love the tune you suggested. I will be adding some of their tunes to my playlists. Thank you!

Their version of Enter Sandman should have been on the Metallica Blacklist album. My god they freaking crushed it.

I am really digging them... I really like the fact, it looks like all of them sing and play and instrument. Yeah I am really digging them.

Been watching some professionals critique them, and every one of them has a dropped jaw and goose bumps. Heck I get goosebumps listening to them. It is pretty rare to come across a band this good in this century. You see the venues they are playing to? Holy cow, I'm surprised I had never hear of them before. These girls are real quality....

Right... why have I have never heard of them before. I visit a few other forums that are geared towards metal, and I haven't heard of seen them before. And yes, they are putting on what appears to be some rather large shows and good sized audiences. I wonder if they just haven't made it state side yet... or until now. Yeah, I am hooked. They sound great both live and recorded.

Well, at least the drummer "Paulina" plays multiple instruments....and very well. Freaking amazing! Don't know about the other two, but I wouldn't be surprised if they also played multiple instruments. The crowd (8,000 people) at this huge Pepsi Stadium in Mexico City are definitely there to see The Warning. All their voices have such depth and substance to them.

Started learning the piano accompaniment for this piece before the fall. Double bassist and I are going to perform it right at the start of the school year. Tough piece to learn, also pretty long.
