Never heard of Don Blackman before; saw a glowing review of this album on some site, checked for CD availability and no I’m not gonna pay $177.00. Was on Tidal, and listening to it again for the third time today.
Recording quality is eh, vocal performances are eh, but the funk, omg. The way the bass and the drums play with, and against, each other, dayam! Guitarist fills in the blanks just right, too. Lovin’ it!

I just took a quick look on Discogs (discogs.com) and the asking prices there for CD releases are a lot lower. They’re all European and Japanese editions though…maybe he never sold enough vinyl albums Stateside to get his label to rerelease it in the US. On the other hand, Japanese records and discs tend to be much higher quality than their American counterparts.

Jellyfish, live in the studio. No autotune, no overdubs, no click track, all acoustic instruments; just four musicians who knew what they were doing. This is beautiful.

You’ve just named two of my all-time favorite pop albums!
:)

The other members of my Top Five are Quadrophenia (The Who), Never Mind the Bollocks (Sex Pistols), and Elastica (Elastica, ha).
I stand corrected re (the spelling of) Sound Affects - but vividly recall the album sleeve; nevertheless, it was, and remains, a terrific album, as was London Calling.

Re The Sex Pistols, I will never deny their cultural significance, but was never quite as enamoured of their actual music.

However, I did love (and still do) much of the oeuvre of The Stranglers: Not only are Hanging Around and No More Heroes both brilliant (and I adore Dave Greenfield and his spellbinding keyboard) but I defy anyone not to accept that Golden Brown is a timeless classic.

And, if you like, nay love, the stunning keyboard playing of Dave Greenfield of The Stranglers (and I do), you will also love Ray Manzarek of The Doors on keyboards (as I do).

Thus, I am now listening to "Riders On The Storm" by The Doors.

Sound Affects - but vividly recall the album sleeve;

Aren't the album title and sleeve design supposed to set up a play on words? I suppose I could look this up but I think there was a series of BBC records called "Sound Effects" that contained various, well, sound effects. The jackets had the same grid design with each square containing a visual representation of a sound.

And speaking of Ray Manzarek...he managed to stay relevant way past the 60s! One of my faves:
