On your GeForce 9400 ? If not then maybe it only affects "REAL" GPUS (9600, 8800 GT and 8600M GT)

I don't get what you guys are saying about Quicktime lagging. I was just watching the Hulk and did not notice any lag or frameskip whatsoever.

I have tried .mov .m4v and .avi and have absolutely no lag on mid '07 MBP. Actually QT seems quicker to load with only one bounce in each instance.

Safari vs 10.4

I've kept my Blackbook on 10.4 because Safari seemed faster than 10.5 Safari on MBP. It may actually be possible that the 10.5 Safari has made significant progress at approaching the speed of 10.4.

Once my cache has refilled and I can defragment it, I'll be able to see if the speed still seems to be there in 10.5.6.

Ok guys it's a fact, QT 10.5.6 + NVIDIA DRIVERS 10.5.6 for all cards that can support purevideo (>8600M GT) have choppy playback in Quicktime (and choppy QT launch too).

See my video there with QT 10.5.5 and 10.5.6... And it's the same during playback, on a 45Min video, it's REALLY annoying... Notice the lag.

Apple has screwed up NVIDIA drivers ONCE again.

Not at all here on MBP 2,8 using 9600 and MP quad 3,0 (but w/h ATI videocard). I have to tell the new drivers work very well for me.

I've managed to reproduce it on the 9600 too, weird.

Are you sure you don't have the little lag i'm talking about in the video ? Please look closer, this issue is HARD to see, but if you are watching a 1.5h movie, trust me i'll bother you.

another bug i've noticed : if i have itunes in memory and playing a movie with VLC, my frames are skipping too like with QT... Since Itunes uses QT frameworks i'm sure if you leave itunes running, it affects all the apps, including VLC. This on the 8800 GT.

When I shutdown iTunes, my movies play perfectly on VLC.. I launch it again, frameskipping... Please note this isn't really NOTICEABLE but if you watch an action movie, it gets irritating.

That's it, i'm rolling back to 10.5.5 now.

I leave iTunes running 24/7 and just pause it when using VLC to watch video I have not noticed anything like that in the VLC so far.

do another test plz, open a video with quicktime, pause it. Leave itunes open on the appstore for example and watch a movie with VLC (MKV 720p one if you can)... If you dont notice anything unusual then it's weird because it's skipping a little there (a LITTLE).

Tried it with just a normal mkv opened both with the same file iTunes was open as it always is nothing wrong now I don't have any 720p or better files so perhaps that does make the difference.

Every thing seems to just run smoother and faster. (for sure wasnt slow before but just seems a little faster, opening apps and such)

In iStat i notice at any given time i have more "Memory" available compared to when i was running 10.5.5

Motion 3 renders RAM previews faster on GeForce GPUs

When I upgraded from Leopard 10.5.4 to 10.5.5, the RAM Preview render time DOUBLED for the 900 frame "Blocks-Detail" HD Template in Motion 3 on the GeForce 8800 GT. I checked and rechecked and then reported it on my site. (I usually contact the "usual suspects" before posting bad news but did not have access to Apple or nVidia engineering.)

I'm happy to report that someone noticed and the "bug" is fixed in 10.5.6. The render speed of that template has been cut in half -- in other words, is back to "normal."

I'm sad guys

They changed the power menu applet thing. Now I can't switch between better battery life and better performance :(

WiFi got faster, everything seems to run much smoother.
Only downside is that I lost bluetooth functionality :(

Yeah, I first noticed that on my mum's new aluminium MacBook on 10.5.5.

What's the point of making us go all the way to the System Preferences to change this?

iTunes store loads much faster

upload and download speed both increased by 1000 kbps

I've noticed apps load quicker, and I'm seeing a lot less of the beach ball of doom

The little one second delay when streaming music to my ATV has reduced

Thank you Apple:apple:

can you guys with either a mac pro + 8800 GT or a MBP any nvidia card (please list which one) list what quicktime version you have in about (Quicktime 7.5.5 249.24 ?)

my wi-fi got slower.

oh and another unwelcome thing: multi-touch resizing of coverflow display doesn't work anymore here! in 10.5.5 i could use two finger scaling of it and now that doesn't work! wtf?

That Option is now in Finder Prefs > Advanced > Zoom using trackpad.
