Safari is slightly faster - updated WebKit framework.

Mail - now has "New Mail" sound whenever it downloads new mail.

Power Saver - removed ability to change power schemes in the menu bar.

Trackpad - separated the trackpad in Keyboard & Mice under System Preferences. Now has it's own icon ( greyish square ) in System Preferences.

10.5.6 - one step closer to the release of Snow Leopard ( 10.6 ).

I used to lose Airport signals all day everyday. Now I've only lost it a few times...ideally I wouldn't drop signal at all. But I wish it would have fixed it altogether. Also noticed that the New Mail sound is actually playing, so that's nice

Well my lags began when I redl/ed QT 7.5.5 from apple.com, now it's build 249.24 and not 249.13 for some reason... Weird

Safari and Quicktime are noticeably faster to open.
Internet connection is more stable ~ USB Mobile modem.
Must have improved the graphic drivers as the screen is clearer.
Firewire TM Backup still as fast and stable.
Repair permissions faster.

Installed combo update after a restart with all peripherals removed as always. = Great :apple: update.

pros: -- Safari seems snappier (not by much)
-- RAM frees up faster

cons: -- a lot more beach balling in safari and in general
-- finder issues

Everything seems fine, no noticeable changes, then again i wasn't having issues to begin. I like that support for 4-finger gestures on the multitouch trackpad was added...albeit unofficially.

Also i have no issues with Quicktime (249.24)/VLC. Just played a 1080p trailer and it cut through it like hot knife through butter. I have an 8600GT 512MB. Then again maybe it's because i have Perian installed

A bit disappointed they didn't add support for GPU decoding like the current unibodies but oh well....

Trackpad Prefs

god i love the 2 finger trackpad click to bring up the secondary click

that is a great option! especially for lazy web surfers like me :D

I could never get all 1080p QT movies to play smoothly before- just gone back and tried several and they all played perfectly.

My Mac Pro sleeps instantly now, with 10.5.5 and earlier there was a few seconds delay.
Normally it takes a few seconds to prepare for deep sleep. Maybe Apple made this process faster but most likely I'd say you have less stuff open to cache during deep sleep preparation.

Hey alkar, I have read through this thread and thought I'd mention that I'm experiencing the exact same problem with my Mac Pro w/Nvidia 8800GT video card. I have been able to minimize the problem by disabling translucent menu bar and turning off Dock magnification but the problem still persists.

I hope that Apple comes up with a solution soon as I'm not a very big fan of VLC (which seems to work perfectly).

I haven't noticed anything
Apart from the fact my iTunes goes crazy every now and then. As i'm scrolling through cover flow it starts to slow drastically, then all the artwork turns white, my desktop freezes, my dock freezes, my toolbar freezes, everything freezes and I get the beachball but my music keeps playing and I can move the mouse then my screen flashes black a few times and I have to do a hard restart

Safari beachballs! Even from just moving the cursor.

WiFi is way less stable. Often won't connect when woken from sleep.

Mail is a CPU hog now. More beachballs.

Fans come on more often, for longer.

My hot corner for "show desktop" sometime doesn't work at all.

STILL miss the first keystroke if the KB hasn't been used in a while (WHEN is this going to be FIXED????).

Lots of little things that just say my macbook isn't happy with this point release at all.

How on earth do I roll back to 10.5.5?

Faster startup with an external drive attached. For some reason from 10.5.3 to 10.5.5 the MBP took an eternity to get to the desktop. Now fixed....

Safari - Around 1million X quicker than before.

I'm coming at this late, but bloody hell! I've always been someone who, first thing they do when they got a new Mac, is ethnically cleanse Safari (at least from the Dock) and put either Camino or Firefox on. After reading this thread I thought I'd give it another whirl. It's like the interwebnet on steroids. I still hate the way it looks and I'm by no means convinced about its rendering engine (which I concede, these days, might just be bias from the past that's no longer the case) but the speed difference is enough for me to switch to it as my main browser on my new Alu Macbook.

Damn, wi-fi stopped working. I'm starting to think OS X is getting more and more like Windows...

Glad to here someone else who has had this issue. I thought it was me the whole time. (most annoying thing for sure). This got fixed for me after the 10.5.6 combo update with a repair of permissions before and after.

Yeah still happens to me as well and sometimes I think I type to damn fast because it will skip a letter once and a while I know I have hit the key for.
