Hello all, I was wondering what you will all do for your new Aluminum MacBooks, in the stores October, 15 2008. Here are the specs for you to choose from:

2.0GHz
Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB/4GB DDR3 Memory
160GB/250GB hard drive/128SSD
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
$1,299.00

2.4GHz
Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB/4GB DDR3 Memory
250GB/320GB hard drive/128SSD
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
$1,599.00

For those of you that are buying WhiteBooks, a dying breed:D, I am open to hearing what you are getting for those and why you aren't going aluminum.

High end GlassBook with an apple remote, 1518 before tax.

Maybe upgrade the HDD: depends on leftover cash when I leave the Apple Store!

I'll be going straight to their refurb store or ebay for my 2.4 GhZ White plastic model. The new ones are just FAR too expensive for my liking!
 
Just bought myself the basic model, upgrading the hard drive myself to 320gb as that was only £50 on eBuyer compared to £60 for 250gb from Apple. Bought a DVI adapter, case and Applecare. Oh and an orange Nano - £1008. Oops

Edit: Not impressed with how long its gonna take to get here!

The 2.4GHz, standard drive, AppleCare. I'll upgrade the drive to a 7200rpm drive later, probably a 320GB.

Need to get Fusion and Office 2008 too.
 
I am going to grab the standard 2.0 tomorrow, assuming they are in stock. I have two Apple Stores near me. Ordering online is far too slow. The fastest I would be able to get it is next week. When I can drive 20 minutes and get it this week at the store, online is like a snail.

Re: backlit keyboard, only the 2.4Ghz has it. I called and verified.

Here in Canada, it is $350 more for the 2.4Ghz model, which only gets you:
-backlit keyboard
-90Gb larger drive
-400Mhz faster CPU

Totally not worth it. Now, if the 2.4Ghz had Firewire THEN I would be sold. ;)

Just ordered a 2.0ghz Alu MacBook with no extras. Was thinking of upgrading the HDD but I'd prefer to get an external drive or upgrade to a larger drive later on. Would also love 4GB of RAM, but I'm used to an iMac 2.0ghz with 1GB RAM so 2GB or RAM should feel zippy enough for the time being. I can always order some 2GB sticks from Crucial later on plus take advantage of the speed increase after getting used to the 2GB it came as standard.

As for delivery times, I've had an estimated delivery date of 30th October.

i chose this over the pro because of the size. i have a 20" imac for everything and need a portable. i don't think a graphics card is necessary for running CS4.
someone please correct me if im wrong!

i'll probably be getting the high-end mb with no mods (i prefer doing them myself for cheaper) and i'll wait a few months before getting applecare

just a quick quesiton,
how come you didn't order CS4? do you need CS3 right away? I think CS4 has a 1-2 month shipping since its not out but I think im going for CS4 so I don't have to upgrade and I don't need it right away.

I just talked to a rep. with the websites live chat about the macbook. The guy wouldn't answer a question of mine, so I'm kinda mad and I'll just ask again tomorrow unless any of you can tell me:D

You: Does the 2.0 Ghz have a backlit keyboard? When I looked on the site yesterday it did but today it says it doesn't.
Rep: No that was an error that was corrected in our website.
You: OK Thanks.
Rep: You're welcome.

You: I was also wondering if changing the RAM or harddrive would void my warrenty
Rep: No it does not.
You: Do I have to buy an applecare warrenty by a certain date for the computer?
Rep: You can purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan anytime within the one-year limited warranty period. Your eligibility for coverage under the AppleCare Protection Plan starts from your hardware purchase date. Then he got real casual talking about what I use my computer for and he asked what I used it for, then I said
You: For surfing the web, games* and word documents
(Now I can picture the guy thinking, stupid PC user!)

This question will be important come a week or two!!!!
You: Can the apple store put a back-lit keyboard inside the 2.0Ghz for extra money?
Rep: No that is not possible.*
(Thats BS and he knows it! There will be so many people blogging about how to do this by November!)

You: Oh thats OK. I was going to go down to the apple store this weekend to buy the computer in person. Do I have to make an appointment at the store or can I just walk into the store?
Rep: You would want to make an appointment.

You: Also, do I have to have a special apple remote for the computer or can I use an apple remote from another mac like an iMac*
(He never answered my question!)

You: Would you know the inventory of a certain Apple Store or would only the store know that?
Rep: You would need to contact the store to verify availability as we have no way of checking store inventory.

You: Thanks for helping!

I will go with this setup but just with the 320 HD. Do you think they will have this in the apple stores? I don't want to wait to have it shipped to me. :D
 
you can only do custom configurations through the website. if you just want to upgrade the HD, you can buy it yourself and do it very easy
