I used a Macintosh at College in the mid 80's but it was not until the first generation iPod that I started to get interested in Apple. I even bought an iMac (lampshade) just so that could sync music with it.

I was just looking to buy a new computer and came across Apple, they use Mac's in the design technology department of my school so I knew how they worked and the basic's so I decided to buy one.

I thought i'd try a MacMini just to see what Apple was about. Figured they retained a good resale value so I could sell it on if it was crap. Turned out it wasn't, I did get rid of a few PCs though.

I like the Mac Mini too. I use it as a headless server. Granted that its not the fastest computer in the world but it serves my purposes fine. On 24x7.

Fewer problems!

I was tired of the endless virus scanner updates, endless updates from Microsoft, strange OS behavior, and flaky hardware. I bought an iBook G4, and loved it and then traded my top of the line Dell for an early Mini since I already had a 20 inch monitor, keyboard, and mouse. That was 3 years ago. I now have an iMac 24" (2 months old) and love it. Leopard is more complete than windows - I don't have to go out and buy more software just to get going. The only software I purchased for my iMac was a newer version of Quicken. The hardware has been stable, the OS is stable. Getting photos from a camera is much simpler and doesn't require buying more software.

I wanted Steve Jobs' babies!

Was at Uni studying cartography, they used macs so I bought a top of the line G4 (July 2000), finally replaced in Jan with a shiny new cheese grater.

The military introduced me to the MAC as we did a lot of graphics and desktop publishing. Then we went to PCs. What a difference. We went back to MACs again and thankfully we did.

This is what convinced me to Apple....

As well as the iPod touch haha

All goof...

Find me a 15" laptop with a dedicated video card, with ~5hours of battery life, and which is only 5 pounds. So far I haven't had any luck with that, and thus..macbook pro.

My parents used Macs since when I was a baby. So it was only natural I should buy one myself. I do feel they wouldn't let me buy one soon enough though (it was my hard-earned money, after all).

Mac OS9 was the first system I used, many years after my beloved Commodore 64.
From 1990 till 2001 I didn't own nor did I use a computer.

Then a friend gave me an old Apple PPC with OS9 installed on.
It took me very little time to get familiar with the system, before that I hadn't even used a mouse :)

A short time later I got acquainted with Windows as well and it struck me that, although the PC on which Windows 98 was installed was faster and had more video memory to watch video content etc., the Windows working space itself I didn't particularly like.
It was closed, somewhat claustrofobic, it set a path for me to walk and made very clear where to stop, which areas (system folders) were forbidden etc.

The overall open structure and atmosphere of OS9, (atmosphere? it sounds silly I know) I liked much better, so much better that I could live with compatibility issues and the lack of games for instance.

My hubby wanted a computer that didn't need reinstalling all the time. I first purchased an iBook for him since his only requirement was that he could browse, get email, and use Office on it. He had that about 4 months or so, which I setup for him and forgot about basically.

After having to reinstall XP on my own computer for the second time in one week, Apple had just made the switch to Intel and allowed users to Boot Camp XP, I made the decision to switch. We now have 3 Macs in the house. That was over 2 years ago...his iBook has never had to be reinstalled and they all lived happily ever after. :D

I normally buy a desktop every other year, and a new laptop interspersed, but also once every two years. I was due for a new desktop in fall/07, but then, uh Vista happened. I held off buying a new desktop. So I bought an iMac about a month ago, and am buying a macbook pro in a few weeks.

Basically, the reason for switching was Vista.

Anyone remember System 6? Compared to System 5, which was rather primitive, System 6 was definitely a leap forward. System 7, though, was an even bigger leap... and got me hooked on Macs once I got my first one (a PowerMac 7200/75).

Compared to MS-DOS and Windows 95, System 7 I found much more to my liking.

for me it was the Microsoft monopoly and all the anti everything software i needed just to have a bit of piece of mind. i have switched and never looked back. i did have to buy office 2008 so my work docs would be as compatible as possible. openoffice was not doing it for me. but that is the only piece of ms software i will ever use on my mac.

Apple just started to make perfect sense...

Bought a Gen 5 ipod for my wife. I had always used other mp3 players cause I was a Windows user. Once I used the ipod I saw how perfect it was compared to others.

Then came Vista. The most unpleasant computing experience I have ever had. No drivers working for printers that were no more than a year old and working under XP. Sound card problems, etc.

At work, I downloaded Safari beta. If anything, the fonts won me over. They were clear and legible. Just a more enjoyable experience over IE or Safari.

Something made me take a look at Mac and here came bootcamp. Great reviews for iMacs. It was time to take a look.

Days later, Leopard was announced as were the aluminum iMacs.

Trip to Apple store to play. WOW!

Bought an iMac a year ago and will NEVER use an MS computer at home if it doesn't pertain to work.

Same as others here. I'm an IT Professional, and have used Windows for years. Tried Linux, but never really embraced it. Got tired of the reinstalls, etc. all the time, so I replaced our aged home DELL with an iMac. Love it so much, went and got a Macbook, and use VMWare Fusion for 2 apps that I need at work. Other than that, I really never looked back...

I had been a Linux user for many years. But I got tired of the manual configurations, re-installs, and library mismatches all the time. And I also got tired of the sub-standard Office tools available for Linux.

So someone introduced me to OS X, which has the power of *nix and a fantastic desktop environment with all the Apps and tools I need. I never looked back.

Hmmm Micro$haft took one look at Windows Me/2000 and hated it so much we bought a G4 iMac (Flat-panel Lamp one) and have stayed since it was my first computer.

I did read where the army was going to macs. I guess that is the reason my daughter wants to go into the army. :p;)
