Nope. I'm already expecting not to have it until at least Feb / March so not getting my hopes up.

I feel you . . . I would like to get a launch day iPhone (which I haven't been lucky enough to snag in years). However I am prepared to wait if I don't get my pre order in on time. But, if it's not shipping any later than that (Jan. Feb of 2018) I'll just wait on the next iPhone and try again.

Yea I think it will be like getting a jet black last year, or a cto Mac pro back in 2013 like up to 12 weeks maybe but not longer, no way.
My biggest question is, will there be store pickups on nov 2nd?

That's a good question. I certainly hope so as I was planning on trading in my 6S Plus.

I preordered original Space Gray Apple Watch Sport April 10, 2015 less than 5 minutes after preorders opened (official release date was April 24) and didn't receive it until May 19. I hope we don't face a similar fate.

Almost the same thing happened to me (with the Apple watch). Perhaps this one will be different.

5 minutes after pre orders I expect the page to look like this

That just might be the case.

I will do my best to get on the preorder queue at a decent place but I'm bracing for a ship date some time in early March so I won't be too disappointed. I also hope to have the opportunity to see some good quality reviews while I am waiting. If I don't like what I'm hearing, that makes the 8 Plus a strong option.

But if the reviews are good and it runs past mid March, well that is a bit ridiculous for a 2017 phone. I'd have to get a sense of when Apple is planning to release its 2018 model. If we are getting within a few months of a release of a refined version, at these prices it would be just too painful to sink so much money into something about to be obsolete so soon and about to lose value just as you're getting it. I would just hang on to my 7 Plus which is serving me quite well.

I'm going to my local Verizon store. I'll have mine on launch day about 8:30 am EST. I'll just have to go a few hours earlier than I normally do.

Given Apple normally does new iPhone releases in September, anyone on a 12 month upgrade is already behind for September 2018 iPhone release if they opt for the X in November.

2 to 4 weeks tops. Otherwise I’d probably just pass altogether. That’s about as long as I was willing to wait for my JB7+.

I'm pretty sure that it'll be completely sold out within minutes - just like the Jet Black 7+ was one year ago.
For me, personally, everything after Christmas is a big no-no. I'll just keep my 7 then or buy an 8.

The problem is that the yield is ridiculously low, the demand will be ridiculously high and to make things even worse, most people will aim for the 256 since 64 is way too small. Combine that with only one size and two colours and the disaster is inevitable.

Really really well said, didn't occur to me to that before that now only has 2 colors in each form plus 2 storage sizes only. And yes 64GB must be too small for that media hungry phone. Why not 128GB & 256GB released instead of 64GB & 256GB is really strange to me?

If Apple can't fufill orders past March 2018, that's not a good launch and would be failing by some expectations of when iPhone customers should be receiving their orders for those who pre-ordered. I would assume production should have some substantial numbers for launch day. But we will find out come November 3.

If its really the case that people had to wait 6 months for their iphone x i guess then apple will not realease iPhone's successor in 2018.

That's the interesting part. I'm not sure Apple would care, which means I'm not sure if I'd still buy the iPhone X in February or March. I mean they have done this before. They released the redesigned MacBook Pro in November 2016 and its successor in June 2017.

Really curious what's gonna happen in October. I hope they've pushed the launch day far enough to have enough time to produce enough phones to serve the majority of buyers at launch day.

Sammy releases his phones in April so sammy might try make something better or same like X and will cost less purposely, March 2018 fulfillment would be a big mistake by apple.

Lets face it, Apple wants to sell as many as they can prior to year end. I am guessing that if you get orders in during the first 15 minutes you should get in 1st wave of shipments. After that, will slip to 4 weeks before going to 6-8. Year end is huge...

As some others have said, I believe the pushed back release of the X will give them time to build up supply.

I'll get my order in ASAP and whenever it ships is fine by me. I need another new phone like another hole in my head.

I agree with this sentiment, it sounds the most reasonable as to what may occur. With an already long delay to accumulate some decent readily available stock, it well sell fast just like it always does, but in no way could we assume Apple is gonna let such a hugely anticipated release slip anywhere near the middle of the cycle. They're gonna want you to have this early enough to where you feel you'd wanna upgrade it again in 2018, not feel like you just got it.

Delivery date will not cause me to skip the X. I will skip the X due to the notch, due to no 128gb being available, due to the cost, due to Apple having us have to pay extra to utilize fast charging.

Seriously. Due to iPhone being a much higher priority than a MP, the wait sure couldn’t be as long as a cto option. I think I waited nearly 6 months. You know, I actuallly had a lot of fun on the forums waiting for the MP oddly enough.

I guess 15 minutes will be too much to slip into 2nd wave. I guess after first 4-5 minutes shipping dates will slip to 4 weeks.

I think that since august, Apple have been ramping up production and hopefully will be producing millions each month by the time they release the X. It will all depend on how many units are available by late October.

Well i;m going through EE so hopefully they get more stock than expected but if they say nothing until early 2018 i will think long and hard about the note 8

I'm on yearly upgrade program, if we get too far into next year, I might as well pay off the phone I have and start over with the X. So there will be a break point, I just don't know what that is yet. I waited a LONG time for my airpods.

I feel your frustration. I waited so long for my AirPods also. I've been wanting a dual lens on a smaller iPhone ever since I saw how amazing it was on a the big-ass iPhone plus. I'll seriously give up on ever buying an Apple product again if I don't receive my iPhone x within two weeks after pre-ordering on day one.

All evidence points to the iPhone X having the worst availability of any iPhone ever.

First, we have record high levels of demand:
  • An unprecedented 55 launch countries (ie hundreds of millions more potential buyers than any other launch in iPhone history)
  • Very little demand for the iPhone 8 (ie everyone is waiting for the iPhone X)
  • The first major redesign of the iPhone since the iPhone 6 (ie everyone is looking for a new form)
  • The redesign was expected (ie everyone knew that the tenth anniversary iPhone would be different, and therefore many people have held off on upgrading -- huge pent-up demand)
Second, we have extremely low levels of supply:
  • Reports of a mere 10,000 units/day
  • Reports that supply will not meet demand until sometime in the first half of 2018
  • Low yield for OLED panels (ie it is difficult to ramp up production)
As a result, delivery times are likely to slip to 2018 within seconds of orders opening on October 27.

What delivery date will cause you to give up and skip the iPhone X in favour of its successor?

For me, it is March 12, 2018 because that is half way through the product cycle (6 months from September 12, 2017). By then, we should be getting an idea of what the iPhone X's successor will look like.

How about you?
September 30th, 2018
At that point I order the iPhone 11 or Xs

okay Tim (or Phil), we get the picture...
They got theirs already, had em for over six months now.

I haven't really thought about how long I'm willing to wait. I really want the phone, but after a certain point, it'll make more sense to wait until September 2018 to see what's in store for the next cycle. I plan on being up at 2:45 a.m. EDT and having the Apple Store app running on both my phone and iPad, with my configuration of choice already saved to favorites. Realistically, I expect to complete my preorder within seconds - if my ship date gets pushed out by more than 12 weeks, I'll probably end up holding on to my 6s Plus until next September.
