I'm thinking about naming mine big dainjerus, after myself. But that might be a little too presumptuous.

I'll probably just end up calling my sh*t Lonnie.

I always tend to name my machine after my gf, so my last couple of computers have been called Imelda :)

Currently it is named "JWMACPRO". My first and last initials are JW, but I'm thinking about changing the name. Will changing the name affect anything in Time Machine?

We used to have a Unix box at work called "FUBAR". The server once had a problem over the weekend and hit the escalation report for Monday morning. The Senior Exec running the call wasn't too thrilled when he heard there was a server by that name on his production floor. The server was renamed within the week. :D

my computer names are kind-of boring...

dvl-macpro
dvl-macbook
dvl-cluster-fe (cluster front-end)
dvl-cluster-n1 (cluster node 1)
dvl-cluster-n2 (cluster node 2)
dvl-cluster-n3 (cluster node 3)
dvl-cluster-n4 (cluster node 4)
dvl-cluster-n5 (cluster node 5)

Awesome... Has anyone seen an actual Death Star icon? That would rock. I can't seem to track one down.

can't you just make one your self from a screen capture?

(btw, mine's called Butt Doctor and my macbooks called Butt Doctor Jr., 'cause i have a very mature sense of humor like that)

That reminds me of something similar after "Cluster-"

"Sulfur" (or "sulphur" or, usually, just "s"). All my devices that speak IP are named after elements, because it gives them natural abbreviations and makes manual DNS easier.

gareth gobblecoq

my hard drives are named homer, marge, bart, lisa and a jump drive called maggie

I used to do something like that, and had icons to match :)

I finally decided to go to a 'Logical' naming sequence for my desktop. And organic chemists (such as my college roommates) will immediately recognize my naming sequence that I've used on my 5th Mac:

Currently, its two internal drives are:

Pentene
Pentyne

If you're wondering, Pentane was the original 160GB drive it came with, which has been pulled and is in semi-retirement.

To follow form, my next desktop will start with the name of Hexane. Not sure yet what I'll do for a fourth drive name....maybe Hexanol? Although I do have to say that "Toluene" has a nice ring to it too.

i was very creative when i named my drive.

they're A, B and C.

(though i did use some funny little icons)

In line with my naming scheme my Mac Pro is called Chachamaru, all my computers IP addresses also follow the characters student number so my Mac Pro's ends with 10.

A few of my other devices are:
Airport Extreme = Sayo
Mac Mini = Ako
Nintendo Wii = Nodoka
iPhone = Haruna
Old PC Laptop = Makie

benzene too surely!

all those 'pent' drives are a bit similar aren't they - the point of naming them is to quickly identify which drive does what

homer = home
lisa = my brain box/workhorse = scratch drive
maggie = small
marge = clean and tidy = backup/time machine
bart = ...uuuh... = everything else (lol!)
