I named my Mac Pro "Patience" because I was a very patient boy waiting months and months and months for the update... :D

(Yes, I really did name it Patience.)

mine is Enzo from Enzo Ferrari because it ti the fastest ferraris in the world.

Mac Pro - Enzo
MacBook Pro - Barchetta
My Custom PCs - Scagielletti
mac mini - Giulietta

Mmm...Barchetta - reminds me of an awesome car as well as an awesome band :)

I named mine "Big Mac" too..

I remember when it first went on sale, I ran all over the place screaming "the Big Mac is here! The Big Mac is here!"

If I had known better, I would have been melancholic and sighed "the Big Mac ships by: Feb. 13 and delivers by: Feb. 19. =/

When I saw this thread I thought it was nuts but then I realized that while I had never named the machine, my 4 1/2 year-old already did. My son calls it simply, The Silver Box.

All I heard for nearly 2 weeks while the logicboard was being replaced was, "Daddy, where is the Silver Box?" "Daddy, when are we going to get the Silver Box back?"

BTW, every time he sees the side of the machine he asks, "Why did they put a fruit on the side of the Silver Box?" to which is 2 1/2 year-old brother says, "That's just silly!"

Welcome to my house ;)

when the 2.8 8core will arrive...

...i'll christen it's main drive "octopussy"

my current G5 dual's hard disk name is "doppelhertz" :D

computer name will be the same "AluMac", boring but proven.

That put a smile on my face this morning... Have you renamed your Hard Drive to "The Silver Box" to apply that name or is it still "Hard Drive"?

Godot..

That's the one on order now, with an 8800-card..

My other Macs that I currently have are called: Plato, Hobbes, Rawls, Schelling.

Dude, I am so bad at the whole naming convention. My drives are named:
Macintosh HD
Michael 1
Michael 2
Michael 3

The Mac HD is my boot drive with mostly just programs
Michael 3 is my Time Machine drive
Michael 1 & 2 are my "working drives" where most of my media and project files are stored.

i've always tended towards a transformery theme with my naming. the windows workgroup is cybertron and my airport hub thingy is moonbase 1. i recently decomissioned my old fileserver/bittorrent box which was called vector sigma, so that is the name my mac pro will be getting. although unicron is kinda temping too :)

oh, and my 3g ipod is called soundwave and my nano (before it died) was laserbeak.

i don't tend to muck with the drive names though.

I havent got a Mac Pro but I couldnt resist this thread.

iMac: Aurora
MacBook: MacBook (yeah, original I know)
Old Windows PC: Apollo
Other old machines:
Proteus
Pegasus
Praxis
Prometheus

I dont bother naming the drives, only the machines themselves.

It's a little silly, but I'm just interested to see if any of you have named your Mac Pro with any type of nickname or handle. If so, what did you name it?

Like some others, I named my hard drives:

Mac system drive - R2D2
Expansion drive - Mac partition - C3PO
Expansion drive - Vista partition - Darth Vader

I have the requisite icons for each as well.

You should rename your main "Macintosh HD" to "The Silver Box"... just an idea, but it would make it a tad more special to see it each time you navigate to your main HD.

I'd like to thank the OP for starting this thread. It made me realize there are people who are bigger nerds than I am. :D

gareth gobblecoq

my hard drives are named homer, marge, bart, lisa and a jump drive called maggie
lol, nice one

i don't name my computers. it'll get a name the second it gives me head and makes me coffee. till then...

I can't believe I'm responding to this thread

I have to say this..... get a life and worry more about your RAM and HD configs than a stupid name for an inanimate machine. If you've got that much time on your hands get a hold of David Pogue's OS 10.5 Leopard, The Missing Manual. You'll learn a lot of VERY useful info about the Mac Pro's OS.
