I have to say this..... get a life and worry more about your RAM and HD configs than a stupid name for an inanimate machine. If you've got that much time on your hands get a hold of David Pogue's OS 10.5 Leopard, The Missing Manual. You'll learn a lot of VERY useful info about the Mac Pro's OS.

Um... Right... thanks for that.

I'd like to thank the OP for starting this thread. It made me realize there are people who are bigger nerds than I am. :D

Ha... not that MR has any nerds/geeks or anything.

Sir Thomas Abbernathy

Are you serious... that's what you call your computer? Not too shabby. :D

New Mac Pro will be daedalus

iMac = pegasus
Win-Laptop = stargate
Vista Desktop = atlantis
XP Desktop = galactica (will retire when Pro arrives)

My Macs

4rd Gen Ipod:Funky Snowball Express:XB Edition (It stays in my car):)
5th Gen Ipod:Bohdi

Mac Pro (E 08) Dr Oct

But after reading this thread.....Gibson....very nice;)

My Mac Pro's name was "Velocity," and its hard drives were named after characters from Haibane Renmei (Rakka, Reki, Nemu, Kana, and Kuu... never got a Hikari). But I sold it. Now I have my MacBook Pro, which is named "Henrietta." Its hard drives are Rico, Elsa, Triela, and Claes. Guess the series? ;)

with all the glitches I've been reading about, if it arrives 100 percent healthy I'm naming it LUCKY. ;)

Given how over-specced mine will be for my needs (when it arrives), I've taken to calling it the WOPR...

I think you might have some issues if you think coming up with a name for a computer takes up any amount of time even remotely equivalent to reading an OS manual.

In other words, stop being such grump, Mr. Grumpypants. :p

That being said, my Mac Pro is named Dagon. I <3 H.P. Lovecraft.

I can't believe I'm the only one who called a Mac Pro 'The Gibson' ;)

My MBP is called 'Crash Override'

Hmm... I'm actually considering that name... i'm between that and Death Star... still haven't made up my mind, though I do like "Silver Box" based from another user... still can't think up anything original though.

Mine will be, I think, Ancalagon.

Only Tolkien geeks will get the reference, but in the not too distant future, we're going to see a trailer featuring Smaug. And it'll be cool. Talking dragons are just... cool...

Meerkat. Fast and entertaining :D

My stock 2x2.8 quad arrived today. What a great machine. Breathtakingly quick ... and fun.

Should have been delivered today. I'll probably name it Doc Ock or Kraken ...

fun post!
i am not alone. i named my powerbook maki-chan (for a girl) and the mac pro toshi-kun (for a boy). i decided since the powerbook is a lot older than the mac pro, she should come first. if you put the two together, it's maki-and-toshi. you have macintosh.

;)

Should be called "Narcoleptic", as in, it tends to not want to wake from sleep..... Or maybe "Ras", as in Reboot After Sleep

Get a life? Don't you think that is a bit harsh? Nothing wrong with spending a few seconds renaming hard drives to make it easier to remember what is stored on them. That being said, I "wasted" time naming my HD's a after anime themes.. Magi, for the supercomputer from Evangelion. SDF-1, the ship from Macross/Robotech, and the Yamato, used in numerous anime and a real life WWII Battleship.

As a combination of my quad-core Mac Pro, and the best rock album of all time, I named mine "Quadprophenia".

On an unrelated naming scheme, my volumes are named: Fry, Professor, Amy, and Calculon.
