Full BT support
Full Flash support
Water proof

Support 4G network
Taken pano view pictures a.k.a. Stitching
Some cable and attach external USB flash
Store files in iPhone without app

For starters:

Bigger screen (no more than 4 inches)

REAL multi-tasking (Blackberry and Android have mastered this)

internal antenna

I think a glass back is a good idea but this time use glass thats not 30x weaker than plastic

completely revamp iPhones 3 year old OS (we basically still have iPhone 2007 OS)

Better push notifications (Blackberry and Andriod have mastered this)

Notification bar (i despise getting a text message and have an annoying pop up window interrupt what I'm doing)

Widgets

Steve Jobs Apologize to Adobe for his childish behavior and enable Flash on iPhone (HTML 5 is a failure)

Mobile safari used to be the best mobile browser but now its outdated and sub par compared to Web OS, Android and even Windows Phone 7 Browsers

almost everything major is switching over to html5...how is it a failure?

and what would you gain from having true multitasking that you don't already get with Apples system? More battery drain? imo APPLE is the ones who have mastered it

also, have you used a WP7 phone? How do you know its browser is superior? It isn't even based on webkit! And to me Androids browser is useless, simply because it lacks pinch to zoom on most devices. Havn't used the WebOS browser though

The iPhone would be great with a 4 inch screen. Nothing more, nothing less. Also would love a notification bar. I hate that damn pop up window. I think we will definitely see a notification bar. Apple did hire the guy who designed it for Palm.

I basically just want a better notification system and alittle more customization. (Not too much but able to delete the stock app or have spaces in the home screen, custom sms and some features from the jail breaking community :p )

But people who are naming all of these Android features should just, well, get an Android phone.

Free tethering

Hdmi out support

Full hd upload to youtube etc

More freedom with bluetooth to pair with devices

For me:

1: Full JB access to the phone with an easy way to do it, similar to the OEM unlock command that will allow you to get root on a N1, but warns you to say b-bye to the warranty. (Fat chance though.)

2: Better data encryption and support for the the option for a phone to wipe itself if it doesn't see a network in "X" amount of days. This way, if someone steals the phone and yanks the SIM card, the data is protected.

3: 64-128 GB storage.

4: Ability to use the phone as a USB drive.

5: Wi-fi tethering like the Evo.

6: Gorilla Glass on both sides.

7: Syncing via BT or Wi-Fi.

i think this year was pretty much the hardware we will see next year, they might tweak the design a little. Ive heard that apple had already preordered an 8 megapixel camera. If so and they use the same chip as ip4 the camera will be far superior to any phone camera. Also if the A4 in ip4 is not running at 1ghz because of underclock i feel like they will bump it to 1ghz. EDIT: if att rolls out 4g by this time, ip5 might be att's first 4g phone.

For software apple did buy one of palms engineers a while ago. i think the engineer was their notification engineer. I think ios will get revamped and also a new notification system. Im hoping for a webos like multitasking but apple will never admit that palms is better and i think they will keep fastapp switching. i think ichat will come in a late 4.1 beta or even 4.2 for when ipod touch and ipad possibly get the front camera.

Along with all this apple will phase out iphone 3g and ipod touch 2nd gen bc the hardware doesnt support it while ip4 and ipod touch 4 will be able to handle all the features.

I assume next year will be another 3GS type of upgrade; a speed bump and possibly a better camera. The iPad will get an A5 processor in April and the iPhone 5 will get it in June. I would expect the antenna to get a redesign to avoid another "antennagate".

Am I the only one who thinks the size of the current screen is perfect? I feel like it's never going to be changed.

I like the design as it is now with the steel band, but moving the black gap that's causing the problem out of the way would be good. No bigger screen for me, well maybe a 3.7 but definitely not bigger than that.
I want custom text message and other alerts or at least more default tones to choose from.
I want to be able to manage photos on the iPhone without having to mess with PC/iTunes, to create albums the same way we create app folders now and to move photos between the albums. And I want to have an option to choose which album I want to save photos in.
And finally, I want a white iPhone or maybe even other colors.

I love my iPhone 4 and there's not much stuff that Apple absolutely needs to add but here's my list of stuff that they could do. The first one is a must-have for me for the next version in that it would make me upgrade.

At least 64GB storage. Once I've moved my music onto my 32GB iPhone it'll be totally full. This is my only disappointment with the iPhone 4, I was hoping they would upgrade the capacities this year.

The iPhone 4 is a big step forward but you can never really have too much battery life so further significant increases in battery life would be good. The retina display was a huge leap and left all competitors trailing behind. It would be nice if Apple could use all their newly acquired silicon design expertise to make a comparable leap forward in battery life for the next generation and establish a huge gap between themselves and the competition.

More radical stuff would be:

Near Field Communications capability. With the necessary app support I could already use this right now on the London transport network and as cashless terminals get rolled out over the next few years it would be a really valuable extra capability in the phone.

Optical zoom. That would take some really precise engineering but if some sort of telescoping lens mechanism could be incorporated that retracted flat so that the phone preserved the same form factor but could extend to give some optical zoom capability (and with at least half decent optical quality preserved) then that would massively increase the flexibility of the camera. Right now the iPhone 4 is a pretty good camera to have to take pictures at parties or similar but it's useless for long shots at concerts or sight seeing.

eh what i DONT want is a bigger screen. If i wanted a screen the size of an evo or a dell streak i would of got one. Maybe .1 - .2 bigger at the most. I think the iphone is the perfect size. A bigger screen isnt always better!

No glass front and back, I don't care if it looks or feels good, I don't want my 900$ phone brake after one little drop, and no I don't want to use an ugly bumper.

i wish they would just build enough to meet the demand they know they'll have.

other than that..i think its an awesome product the way it is :)

1) Random Wallpaper like in OS X, where you can set it to show a new one every so and so seconds, minutes, or a new one everytime you turn the screen on.

2) the ability to set custom alert tones such as SMS, email, keyclicks, calendar, etc. They did this with ringtones so i dont see why they cant do it for the other alerts.

3) A homescreen with widgets or possible a customizeable homescreen where you can get a quick glance of your email, sms/mms, calendar, weather, todo list, etc.

4) the ability to have the home screen in landscape mode.

5) option to have more than 2 repeating alerts for missed text messages. 2 is not enough, would be nice if you can set it to repeat it until you've actually checked your phone. I still miss text messages or calls because of this. 2 isn't enough.

6) Facetime with users on iChat would be nice. Or a native ichat app for the iphone!
