Amen, bottled water.

I think a lot of people are looking at things that are "high priced" but not neccessarily over priced. Like, a Rolex isn't just a watch, but a luxury item, so it's supposed to be at that price.

Any alcoholic drink in a nightclub.

i am with you on bottled water and nighclub beverages

but among high priced watches, rolex is half high quality which is worth every penny, but also half "name" which i question when their basic model is $3700 dollars and has very little or no water resistance...a similar watch in looks, but with 50m water resistance, from breitling, is only $1550 dollars

add a nice durable band and some water resistance, and an extra time feature or two then you are talking close to ten grand from what i have seen...and if you want a diamond encrusted women's rolex for the opera, all you need is $75,000-100,000 dollars plus

you can get a comparable panerai, tutima, invicta, corum, breitling, or tag-heuer for way less than a similarly outfitted rolex

of course, i will admit, rolex has a name with watch collectors, and non watch people that no other name has or will ever likely have...boat races, golf tournaments, and celebrity events are sponsored by the company on a regular basis which gives them a higher profile than any watch company, cheap or expensive, worldwide

as for quartz watches, i think some modavo models are a bit expensive for what they are

Iced coffee at Starbucks. Less coffee - but with ice - and they charge you more $? I don't get it.

Oh, and I'll agree with all the other bottled water posts. Why do people in Manhattan drink bottled (tap)water when they have some of the best tap in the world?

EDIT: Oooo oooo!!! Pick me! I have another one! Computer repair shops who charge $50 for a "diagnostic" (i.e., looking at it, saying "Why yes, you do have a problem with your computer!")

Geek Squad makes a killing off of people who don't know better.

the one thing i don't like about solid state is its accuracy and when you make a mistake, it shows

many settings on tube amps tend to be somewhat to profoundly more forgiving

...but with jazz, i want to be a more competent and accurate player, and i know i will eventually welcome the challenge

yea...I greatly prefer tube amps to solid state, though I recognize solid state has a lot of advantages. Mostly I'm beefing about tube technology because my Twin has a tube that's gone harmonic and I'm looking at probably $350 in parts/labor (new tubes/biasing/bench charges, etc.) to get it fixed. So it goes...

so having said that, tube amp repairs...way too freakin' expensive

PS3 ($600?!?! i could get another mini for that much)
PS2 (for its quality, it should cost about $10 new)
Apple computers (expensive, but worth it)
Fords and GMs (i don't wanna start flame war, but for their quality, they should cost a lot less)

My overpriced item was a $1.99 bottle of wine. I'll happily pay $30 for a bottle that I don't feel is overpriced (ie. the quality is that good), but I still feel like I'm getting ripped off when I pay $1.99 for "Two Buck Chuck". Might as well put hork in a bottle...

Repairs? How about the amps themselves? Or just the tubes? Especially anything that says "Mullard" or "RCA".

hmmm took me a while to think of something new, as most of them have been mentioned. Not sure if its a product but,

one credit in the arcades, specifically ones in the U.K.
A quid a credit is just not fun.

I paid $350 for my Twin (used) about 10 years ago. It's a '74, though, so it's seen a lot of mileage. But yea, a new Fender Twin...ouch.

and Groove Tubes...complete rip-off.

A friend of mine used to have a Super Twin, 70-something, I don't recall. He sold it last year for $650, not including the original drivers.

It had been sitting in his closet for about ten years because it kept popping fuses and the plates on one side of the output stage were glowing bright red. The repair estimate from last year was over $300. I'm just an electronics hobbyist, but I looked at it and determined it was a toasted bias resistor (it was thoroughly charred). Cost less than $5 to ship the part, and two minutes to solder it in.

I live in New York and I never drink bottled water... I actually despise it. The tap water here is amazing, and I can say that confidently after my two week vacation in South Florida :p

yea my Twin is really "noisy" and the volume can kind of cut in and out. I'd already done the cheap and easy i.e. replaced the pre-amp tubes, but it was a marginal improvement at best. It's good for what I do (just playing around at home/recording) but at any volume higher than about 2 it starts to sound like crap. So there's these guys at a local shop who told me that they basically refurbish the things, which after 32 years is probably what it needs. Just trying to work up the courage to pry open my wallet...

i jammed with a guy with a supercharged fender twin reverb amplifier and while it was good, it sucked compared to his mesa boogie which i used

then i heard that expensive mesa boogie (compared to his mid priced fender twin reverb) against a super expensive diezel amp which was worth six grand with speaker cabinet and the boogie sounded cheap and tinny

so after despairing thinking i had to spend a ton to get a great tone, i heard an old veteran guitar player with a mid priced japanese fender stratocaster reissue through a maligned 1970s fender twin, and the tone he has was better than the boogie, and as good as the diezel amplifier setup...it was in his fingers

if jimi hendrix were alive, he could take a $300 dollar squier/fender strat and play it through a $200 dollar small solid state fender amp and blow us all away

talent and ability still reign supreme, especially in music
