I've got a demijohn of pennies being slowly filled up, 5-20p's go in a smaller tub and anything bigger goes in another tub. Makes it easy when I'm going hiking and just want a few quid incase I need to buy a drink or whatever.

Throwing money away is ridiculous no matter how much it's worth. A friend mindlessly stored change for a year and next week he's off to NY (to buy cheap electronics, more money saved!) just from the change.

Coin sorter and then to the bank when a critical mass is reached.

I get less change now (good because I dislike coins) because everything goes on the CC so I can get cash back and leave my money earning interest in the ING account rather than earning nothing in my pocket.

Dunno... but it does seem to vanish on its own:confused:

Keep your coins, I want change.

Seriously, though.. I keep it in with the bills in my wallet (no coin pocket) and use it when I can until there is enough in there that it's annoying and I just dump it on my dresser until some other time when it might be useful.

I put mine in an empty Nestle Quick Bottle(Sam's Club Size) and every time it gets near full I take it to my bank and dump it in the counter, no charge either!! I had almost $200 the other day...Nice!!! It adds up quick!

I recently cashed in a ridiculous amount of change. I'd been collecting all my coins in various jars and containers for years and finally decided I'd reached critical mass. I dumped all the coins into a large suitcase and took them to a nearby coin sorting machine. All together the coins weighed about 85 pounds and it took me over half an hour to dump them into the machine. I ended up with $950, but my hands turned a disturbing shade of grey and smelled like pennies for quite a while.

We saved all our change for years in a big plastic Coke bottle and took it in to the bank a couple months ago. We had just shy of $1500 in change in the bottle and a couple smaller tins.

You know the round covers from the spindles of CDs one can buy? I fill those with change, then when I want something, I'll go count it up (by hand) and then take it to the bank... and of course, end up screwing up the machine, so the technician for it just waits by it while I empty my plastic disc covers... lo and behold, I've suddenly got a large quantity of money. I also learned that bank machines don't generally take golden dollars... stupid New York train ticket change dispenser.
