Everything. It’s my personal computer but that’s not to say I don’t have a MacBook or iPads. It’s the one I use the most and it’s my go to device.

I use it for (not in order)

Email
Online banking
Online shopping
Paying bills
Navigations
Photography
MP3 player/podcasts
Watching videos
Reading the news
Calls
Calendar
Notes
Alarms

Primary uses of my iPhone are:

1. Texting (iMessage, WhatsApp, FB Messenger)
2. Social media (Instagram, Twitter)

I use my phone for personal and business use. Majority of my time is in texting, WhatsApp, instagram and facebook messenger. The other half is Microsoft outlook and writing emails back/forth for business. Occasionally I use it for Duolingo and snapchat but again, mostly business.

It's super reliable for business purposes, dare I say it, better than my former crackberry.

It’s still primarily a communications device for me - texts, calls, messaging, a little social media. Occasional convenience (if it’s what is at hand) or on-the-go browsing device (where signal is good enough). Camera is second most important aspect to me. On the whole I prefer leaving most else to iPad or computer.

Likewise, apart form the social media, which I do not use on my phone.

Receive and make calls. Listen to music when out of the house. Web browsing when away from my laptop.

skype, whatsapp, calenders, gmail, phone calls, for apple watch, paying my bills (bank), random tickets if i dont have time left on my travel card, waking me up on mon-fri mornings :D sometimes i dont use it at all... nowadays i do less and less with my phone.

I basically use it for calls/texts/emails/internet. Only a couple utility-type apps that get used regularly, and sometimes listen to music with AirPods.

It’s no wonder the pace of upgrading has slowed. Most of the tasks mentioned here could easily be performed by a iPhone 6

True enough

Generally speaking though, the flip side is, what does anyone actually need a Xs for that technically can't be accomplished by an iPhone 6?
Does it (or the Max) have anything that pushes the envelope of actual capabilities farther than the 6, 6s, 7 or 8?

Better camera? Meh
Faster? Meh
Longer battery life? Meh

Those aren't capabilities, just improvements of existing capabilities

I am not aware of any apps or features available on the newer phones that aren't not possible on the older phones, say 6 or higher

I'd say the last time anyone really needed an upgrade was when copy/paste was introduced in what, like 2009?

We talk here now about an iPhone 6 like it's some just-barely-able-to-handle-normal-tasks phone, when in reality we had reached that point 5 years prior to the iPhone 6.

Agreed

Don't get me wrong, I like upgrading as much as the next guy
I have a X but didn't move to the Xs even though I was on the Apple upgrade program
I just paid my X off and I will wait until I have a real need now

Same as anyone else

Apps
Music
Email
Calls
A few texts. I rarely text message. I rarely use the camera also.

I've bought every iPhone over the years except for the iPhone 5 (bought 5S), 6 (bought 6+, 6S+, 6S) and X.
