I know there is the speed test thread, but i want to know what the going price for internet is. Right now i have a 1 down 512 up cable line for $35 a month. I did have 3 meg for $60 but that was when 3 people were splitting the bill. Now i split the bill with myself. I can pay $35 for 1meg, $45 for 1.5, $60 for 3, or $80 for 5. Since the local phone company owns the fiber lines in town and wont lease them i can't get fiber. A town nearby, about 6 miles down the interstate, has 15meg fiber available. It's $55 a month i believe. Am i being over charged? I haven't dealt with cable companies for very long.
We have the fastest high speed fiber optic DSL from Qwest. I think it's $99 a month. It's faster than Comcast highest speed.
I have AT&T's 3.0Mbps DSL, and a phone line that has to be active to use it. It costs me about $70 a month, but I'll be getting rid of it at the end of the month because I'm moving in with some relatives to save money while I attend college again.
We pay right at $100 for cable internet and cable through Time Warner. I'm not really sure what portion of that is internet. I'd imagine about half.
42,91 for: Download speeds at 15 Mbit/s It's not unlimited, Untill 25 GB it's full speed after that it's slower of you have to pay more
I just recently switched over to AT&T's naked DSL. I pay $20 a month for, I think, 768kbps download speed. I had their 3.0 mbps for almost a year, but with a phone line that was costing me about $45 a month. I needed desperately to cut costs.
wow, i never appreciated my speeds till now! £18/month ($26.50) for 24 meg download and 1.3 meg upload ^.^
Zero. My sister pays a few bills in lieu of rent and the u-verse bill falls under that. Meh, 90% of time time I use my cell card anyways. Last time I paid for DSL, it was $30 a month with AT&T.
Compared to the prices in my area you are being ripped off. I'm getting 15 Mbps down, 2 up for about $50 through Verizon Fios, so I take it that that is a good deal, at least compared to the OP's
I'm paying $39.95 for 15 Mbps up/down, but I get close to 38 Mbps upload speeds. FYI, not Verizon, but it is FIOS.
You live in Rolla, right? Fidelity is a ripoff and yeah, you're being overcharged. All of us UMR students hated them. Aren't monopolies great?
Geez. Some of you are very lucky. Am i stuck with what i have? Are they allowed to have complete rights to cable internet in the whole town? I'm not sure if i can get DSL. Depends on what website i go do. If i go to embarq it says no. But if i go thru Dish.com and use their embarq tester it says yes. I have been meaning to call and see for sure. I don't mind $45 a month, but when i'm only getting 1.5 it really feels like i'm getting ripped off.
I pay £17.50 ($25.80) per month for 8mbit. If I lived somewhere more urban, I could get 24mbit for only a little more per month.
I don't pay anything. My wife's work pays for our phone and Internet. If we did have to pay, I think it's around $45 with Time Warner. EDIT: thought I'd add my speed test results.....
I do. I'm considering moving closer to st. james so i can get centurytel once my lease is up. I've thought about calling the FCC, or fidelity and asking them about the issue. Yes monopolies are great. Fidelity, Investment reality, Communist choice for daily needs.
It's really a shame in Austria. I live close to on of the larger cities in Austria and have 100kbit downstream, 10kbit upstream.. I pay 25/month for internet and landline phone.
I've heard horrible things about Investment. I was able to avoid them by going through a private landlord. Couldn't avoid Fidelity though. I don't know what we pay for Charter in St. Louis. Way too much I know. We're getting Uverse installed in a couple weeks
I have a private landlord as well. I really don't see how investment is so big. Every other house for sale is thru them, or rental, or business office rental. Whats Uverse?
£20 a month for BT, unlimited download and 2mbps down, 512kbps up (IIRC). I like it but will be switching to a service that doesn't limit speeds during the day.
All told I pay about $180/month to the cable company, with about $50 of that going to my high speed access.
I have Earthlink's 1.5d/512u for $30/month. Actual speeds: Earthlink partnered with SBC for the DSL connection.
