The term "bimmer" was later coined to refer (exclusively) to BMW automobiles. As such, use of the word "beemer" to refer to a BMW automobile is frowned upon by BMW enthusiasts, because it is the term used for motorcycles. Although the distinction is somewhat arbitrary, to this day, the media, movies, and most people still use the term "beemer" to refer to the automobiles due to their ignorance of this fact.

Bimmer is an international term used to describe the car

But all my friends say get a Toyota because they will never break down even if you abuse them.

They don't happen to work for Toyota do they??? heheh.

Any car can breakdown... we've had a lot of Fords in our family over the years, and none have had anything other than the usual servicing. Yet I know people that have had nothing but problems with similar models and have completely sworn off ever buying another Ford.

The same goes for Nissans and Toyota's, a friend of mine purchased a new Micra when they first came out, it had to be replaced after 6 months because it was obviously screwed together on a Friday afternoon. ;)

That's why so many people hate BMW drivers... that and because they all seem to believe that 'Ultimate Driving Machine' bollocks.

EDIT: what car do you drive anyway?

I have never heard of Toyota having any problems. Heck I don't even think they have ever had a recall like the Europeans and Americans always seem to have. It seems that people can buy a Toyota and abuse it...forget maintenance...oil changes...etc. and it will keep running just fine.

As iGav said, Toyota recalled over 2 million cars and trucks recalled in 2005( a 100% increase from 2004). This year they're getting worse. In July Toyota recalled a crap load of vehicles. Right now Toyota is being probed for a serious problem in the Sienna with the liftgate failing when open and the Tundra for having a suspension problem. And there is an investigation going on involving 3 Toyota officials hiding a problem that needed to be recalled( which they did in July). I wouldn't be surpised if Toyota surpasses GM in recalls for 2006.

Anyway, I would go for the 3 Series. My dad has a 2002 330xi. He loves it. Besides my sister crashing it all the time, it hasn't been in the shop much.

The 325 is a little underpowered. The difference in feel to the 330 is pretty substantial.

THANK YOU!
haha
:)

Is an A3 that much more expensive over there than 3 year old X5's, 325i's and A4's???

What about a nice Honda Civic?

And to reply to everyone else....

I'm leaning toward the x5 right now, even though many said it wouldnt be a wise choice; the reason is what some of you said about SUV killing the other person...and I dont want to be that other person in a audi A4. lol

BUT
I totally forgot about the whole "european cars are so expensive to mantain" deal, so I might...MIGHT take a RAV4 under consideration. But that is a slight chance...
Toyota is a good car...but its nothing like a BMW hehe

and yes, if my parents gave me a choice between a BMW and a toyota, I would most likely want the BMW...and who can blame me?

it isnt but its a new car, and I would just feel terriable if I got into a wreck and messed it up.

I dont know :/
I love them A3s....haha you just made me want the A3 even more :/ :/

The x5 is a car-based SUV and doesn't have the same high-bumper that the truck-based SUVs have. It's not that SUVs are definitely bad rather their safety is much less than one would assume.

Just remember, in a high-speed avoidance manuever, don't cut the wheel back quickly and don't use the brakes. One of the things I wish SUV drivers would do is learn how to drive them.

And, do NOT, my dear girl, under any circumstances exceed the cargo weight. Most of the small SUVs have a low-number and this is the one of the main contributing factors to many of the Ford Explorer roll-overs (the Firestone tires didn't help) several years ago.

Hope you're happy with your choice and wish you the best.

SUV's are just not safer in any way shape or form, if you hit annother SUV you'd screwed no matter what, with a huge care you have more momentum and it takes more to stop you doing more damage.

just get something small and fun, hell if you don't need to carry a **** load of stuff around small convertables are allot of fun.

If you use Bimmer in the UK they will.

Even in Toronto, we still say "Beam-er", although I'll spell it Bimmer if I write (and I've never had to, so meh).

Same thing in Australia, and even many Americans ---- they all say "Beamer" or "Beemer" (same pronounciation), but not "bim-mer."

All the more reason to follow my advice about advanced driver training.

Around $25k for a base model, but don't get one - I don't need inexperienced drivers wrecking them and causing my insurance premiums to go up.

Trust someone with more experience in all types of vehicles, and an understanding of physics: Your logic above is wrong and dangerous, for yourself and others. DO NOT get an X5. Please. Or other SUV. Something with more visibility, less mass and a lower centre of gravity will be your better choice.

word. the 3 series has a better safety rating, gas mileage, reliability, etc.
Just because it's a bigger hunk of metal doesn't mean it's safer.

BMW cars are called Bimmers. Say BIM-mer. If you are a New England native or want to sound like one, say BIM-mah.

Only SOME native Massachusetts people talk like that, especially ones in the boston and worcester. "Pahk the Cah, in this case a Bim-Mah, in the yahd. The keys ahh in the drah (drawer)"

Learning the alphabet in Boston:
"...m, n, o, p, q, ahh, s, t, u, v..."

Everyone in New England does not use that ridiculous dialect.
