I love my 6th generation Honda Civic! Civics of all generations are some of the cheapest cars to fix (because they are so common). I replaced my windshield for $65 a couple of months back...you can't beat that. Also, Civics have the largest selection of fitted (not universal) aftermarket additions and replacements.

I hope you enjoy your first car!

Congrats on the new car.
Just to give my 2 cents, I hate the new Honda designs.
I really liked the 92-96 prelude designs, and the 2001-2005 civic (hatchback) designs. But now, it looks like they are trying to make them look like a futuristic robotic bullet with frikin' lights all of the place instead of a car.

My dad bought a Civic last spring, a DX trim with a 5-speed manual. It's roomy and comfortable, the engine is free-revving and it it has good fuel economy. But it's slow. There is a significant drop in performance with 4-5 people in the car.

But as reliable transportation it is a good buy, and the build quality is excellent.

You are speaking to some one from the UK you don't need to explain global geography ;) :D

Haha, that's EXACTLY what I thought when I saw the Wiki-link :D

I love that Honda, especially the covered Honda badge, don't know why, it just looks cool.

I still haven't had my first driving lesson...intensive course planned though. :)

I have one too. It's a pretty car and great value for money. In Australia we get the Thailand made ones which are excempt from import duty. It is so good on petrol too, very economical.
Its refined, zippy, roomy has a great dash, four doors a boot, cruse control. My hubby says all honda engines need to be revved to be enjoyed and he wants a type R civic

The Type R (see picture above)was designed and built by Honda UK which may explain why you don't get them in the US. They have just come to Aus and there is a long waiting list. I doubt if they will come to the US as like the UK we have right hand drive. My husband was told they can't make enough for Europe so to be prepared for a long wait.

It has amazing styling and my hubby test drove one and said it handles beutifully and has a great engine

I love Honda's designs, they get better every time. I have an 2001 Accord and I can't wait until I can afford a new one in the distant future (I'm in high school).

Well, I think this car is really great! Now I have Honda Civic VII 2004 year of issue. Older model but still it is enough to recognize what Honda is. I used to do Test-drive on New Civic. Brilliant car! At last they did something with ergonomics! Design is also marvelous. 1.8 with 140 hp is more than powerful! Those petals under the steering wheel... :)

I prefer Mazda 3 over Civic any day. Reason? Better bang for your buck in every aspect.

Incorrect. What model are you comparing?

It certainly doesn't beat the Civic in terms of resale value, build quality, dealer support or network, reliability, or value ESPECIALLY in the higher end 3s.

Congratulations on the new car. The Honda Civic is a great car and I myself may be looking at making a down payment on a used one (2005 or 2006 model) with my tax return (depending on the financing I can get). Enjoy the new car, I wish I was lucky enough to afford a new car when I started driving, the vehicle I drive now is a 94' Astro van, wouldn't be so bad if the A/C worked and it didn't drink gas like crazy.

The Civic, along with all Honda cars, are definitely one of the best cars you can buy. Honda is way better than any American made car. I American cars sooo much. If I had to choose an American car tho, I'd choose Ford. Ford is the only American car I'd drive.

When I buy my first car, it will be a Honda, Toyota or a Ford.

I drive a 2005 Hybrid Civic Sedan and nothing but good things to say about it. I've driven the newer generation also and although I liked the spacepod dashboard I thought the visibility was terrible as compared to the 05 generation.
