What do you think the next-gen iPhone will be named?

I would hope that the next installment will be a completely different design. Like iPhone 3G and 3GS, then iPhone 4 and 4S. If it is then it won't be linked to '4'. Will be iPhone 5 or 'iPhone' and marketed 'The new iPhone'.

I like the whole.. "numbers" thing. 3G,3GS,4,4S, etc

But they may just do "the new iPhone", since the iPad did that.

We will see.

iPhone pro, or the obvious iPhone 5, I certainly hope it is NOT 'the new iPhone'

It doesn't matter what they call it. I think they should give it a name rather than calling it "the new iPhone" but I don't really care what they call it. I know for certain they won't call it "6" but I really don't care what they decide to call it.

Why would it be called "The new iPhone"? The third generation iPad isn't called "The new iPad" either.

I think they'll settle with simply "iPhone" (like they are doing with the third-generation iPad which is simply called "iPad"). I wouldn't be surprised, however, if it was going to be "iPhone (something-here)" - I think that they changed the naming scheme for the iPad, because they are planning to launch the iPad mini (and else you'll get, in 2012: iPad 3 and iPad mini - in 2013: iPad 4 and iPad 2 mini" - in 2014: iPad 5 and iPad 3 mini - etc.).

Um when they market the iPhone they are going to call it the new iPhone, that is exactly what they did when the iPad came out.

The third generation iPad isn't called "The new iPad" at all. It's called "iPad" (just like I point out in my point). The "new"-part is simply there because the product just launched, and thus it is new. "new" isn't in the name at all.

As I said, if they stop with "iPhone (something)" than it's going to be called "iPhone". Not "The new iPhone". They might refer to it as the new "iPhone", but "new" isn't part of the name.

Confusing to who? You or the average consumer? I posted this in another thread and it's worth posting here.

Obviously iPhone 6, because it's the sixth iPhone on the list.

Probably for this iteration the "New IPhone", then on after I guarantee it will just be IPhone. My thinking is that they will go the way of the Mac. When a new Mac comes out do they give it a special name, no. Another example would be the car business. When BMW makes a new M3 they don't give it a special name its just the 2012 M3.

They will definitely use 'New iPhone'. Steve Jobs regretting version numbering the iOS devices and there's no doubt they are now phasing that out with New iPad. I think this is great news for consumers who don't want to be confused by geeky version numbers, they just want to buy iPhones.

That's the thing though. If they are to be selling multiple generations (we are up to three currently on the market) of the iPhone, I think that will be MORE confusing to consumers.

Seeing that some have opted '4S something', i would like to know what exactly were they thinking? iPhone 4SII ???

As apple don't release different models every couple of months like most of the other manufacturers the title "iPhone" would be in my opinion enough.

The new iPhone or iPhone 4G, because of LTE.

Definitely not iPhone 5. That would make no sense.

Just 'iPhone'. Please, enough of the stupid names already.

It's clear that the iPhone and iPad will become like other Apple products and not go through major redesigns too often, becoming more familiar devices and differentiating with software.

Imagine we were calling the current iMac the iMac 12?

I'd be totally fine with that. Don't see any reason not to. Makes it a lot simpler than just calling it "the new iPhone".

Which is great, except we don't have 4G/LTE here in the UK.

So definitely not iPhone 4G, as that would make no sense. ;)

Apple made that mistake with the latest iPad and they won't want to repeat it.

I suspect Tim Cook will refer to it as the new iPhone, but I have no idea what's its "official" name will be (nor do I care if the truth be told).
