Yes, apps can be an entirely different experience on the iPad but with the iPhone 6 Plus that gap is closing and frankly even with my iPhone 5 the times I'd want to reach for my iPad I find it better to reach for my Mac. My main use of the iPad now is the Logic X remote but I just got a MIDI controller that can do most of what the app can anyway so I'm stuck figuring out my use for it. I just don't mind using my iPhone for magazines or web browsing. As appealing as the technology is (the quality for the price may be enough alone to justify owning it), I can't think of much that can be done on an iPad or at least done significantly better than an iPhone 6 Plus or a MacBook Pro; frankly, what can be done better is dependent on the form factor and display size.

So, what are you using the iPad for nowadays? I'd honestly like to know how MacRumors users fit the device into their workflow and ecosystem.

With the Air's lack of use by me, I wasn't planning to buy an iPad Air 2 but after cashback I paid about 30% off the retail price so it was an impulse Black Friday buy. I might end up selling it frankly if I can't justify owning it anymore but at least upgrading cost very little.
Isn't the real question, what are you using your Mac for?
With the exception of Adobe Illustrator, and good photoshop apps, I use my iPad for everything, that I would use my mac book for normally.
The only thing I really need the macbook for other than Adobe, is as a library for my iTunes. If they didn't need to have a computer with iTunes on the hard drive

I use it to play Zombie Gun Ship at work, and to generate passwords when a user lets their password expire. Nothing beats giving someone a really insane complex password because they ignored two weeks of daily emails letting them know their password was going to expire

Consuming media mostly, these days. I use the 'TV Catchup' app to use my iPad as a television and I use it to watch BBC iPlayer and Netflix most of the time. I've used it significantly less since getting my 6 Plus, that's for sure. Still, I don't think it's something I could get rid of entirely since it acts as the only television I own personally (live with parents).

Couch surfing, calendar when Airport runs come in using CALENMOB,viewing, editing files in SUGARSYNC, editing photo's from PhotoStream, adding recipes to my cookbook, currently on the SEAFOOD BOOK,watching ESPN NCAA Football/Basketball games, news weather, traffic,
its also Cellular, so all this goes on in the Van as well, love the Zagg Back Lit Keyboard FOLIO
My MAC is a 2008 15" MBP, which I do all of the above-on as well.
The iPad 2 RETINA MINI Cellular is my travel companion, vs lugging the MBP, it will be stashed in the Van once my iPad Air 2 arrives, that too is Cellular, with the beautiful CLAMCASE FOLIO KEYBOARD, I will finish the Cookbook on that

Actually, my usage habits have shifted.

I used my 4S all the time, but now that I have a 6 I find that I spend far less time using it than I used to (despite the fact that I like it much more than the 4S). Since Apple released continuity and I can now share my phone's LTE, it can sit idle all day.

My rMBP stays docked to speakers and an external monitor 99% of the time so its like a desktop. I take my iPad and a logitech ultra thin keyboard cover to class with me to take notes in ALL my classes (science, Law, Audit, and Management). I browse the web and even play games on it. Actually, I used to use my iPhone for games since it was closer to a Nintendo handheld device, but now I prefer most games on the iPad's larger display.

The rMBP is for heavy school work and managing my media and files. If I had to get rid of one, it would be the iPad since it IS the most frivolous, but it's one of my most used.

What Do YOU Use Your iPad for When You Have an iPhone and Mac?

I use my Imac for studying and printing at home . My iphone is mostly used outside the house and for texts/talk. My macbook pro retina is used at University and studying in libraries.

At home I use my Ipad air for Youtube, Netflix, browsing and in the kitchen, when I'm cooking. I love to relax on the sofa or bed with the Ipad. The newest family member is a Ipad mini with retina display. I use it a lot as above, but love the smaller weight and size.

The ipad is the nicest relax at home device in my opinion - even when I've got a macbook and an imac.

I have never bought a tablet in my life. I didn't buy one 5 years ago for the same reasons I am not buying one now. My laptop does everything a tablet does and more. And the tablet hasn't improved at all in terms of productivity since inception.

I vastly prefer a macbook air or a chromebook over a tablet. But I kind of see it in ipad sales and my surroundings too. I believe the ipad is going the way of the ipod

At home, I use my iPad for browsing on the couch, book and magazine reading, and of course games. I also use my iPad creatively for both music production as my Logic Pro X remote and also for DJing, using an attached external controller.

And even if I had a MacBook instead of an iMac, I'd still get great usage from my iPad because I could read any of my books or magazines comfortably using one hand. And in fact, many of those magazines benefit greatly from the larger screen size with interactive designs (i.e: MacLife). The same goes for other apps that do a great job utilizing the extra screen estate for more UI elements and information.

Nearly everything. My ipad is easily my most used apple device. I thought my 6+ would mean I Would use my ipad as much, but I still prefer my iPad.

Use iPad mostly for browsing web, mail, games, and live streaming. Huge football and tennis fan. Many times have a tennis match on TV, one on Mac, and one on iPad. Same for football.

Love the Air 2 for streaming any of these. Display is fabulous and it does not heat up like my previous iPads.

What do you use to stream the tennis and football?

For football mostly WatchESPN and NFL Sunday Ticket. For tennis I use TennisTV.com (ATP), Tennis Channel Everywhere, and WatchESPN.

Also use some of the Grand Slam apps for tennis like USOpen app/website. It may be the best streaming site I've ever used from a quality perspective. It's amazing!!

Literally just use my iPad to stream media, even that sometimes gets AirPlay'd to the TV!

Don't think I could live without my iPad though!

I agree - I wish the other grand slams would follow suit and provide such awesome streaming.

For reading long documents, and its size means I can bring it to places I never would have bothered with a laptop.

I use it solely for college, mainly electronic college books. Saves me from carrying 25+ extra pounds. Much easier to use and keep protected then a laptop while in labs as well.

Personally, I have an iPhone 5s, an iPad mini 2 and a mid-14 MBA.

I work from home in a consulting role so the MBA still gets a tremendous amount of use for proofreading, emailing and document creation. I also use it for computer programming in the evening. Additionally, I often use the MBA to pair with my ATV for when a show or sporting event can't be found in an app.

My iPhone is mainly an iPod and an on the go device. It's also my primary camera. I don't use it much at home with continuity, though I'll occasionaloy use it as a remote.

I use my iPad for basically everything else at home; streaming classes, ATV remote, web browsing, email, document viewing, instant messaging, social, etc. sure, I could use my computer for that, but the iPad is so flexible that I really enjoy it much more. It always feels like less of a commitment when I'm using it.

I feel like the iPad is more of a commitment sometimes because it's not as portable as an iPhone and I sort of need to force myself to use it, or at least remind myself that it exists.

Nothing wrong with that. Different strokes and all that.

Personally, it's the iPhone that's kinda like that for me nowadays. Sure it's more portable but even when I had a 6 Plus, I kept hankering for the iPad's bigger screen when I was web browsing and the like (I really missed the extra vertical space). I think the only thing I really liked the 6 Plus for was watching videos on the go (mostly TV shows). Given most content is in widescreen, videos just fit better on the 6+'s 16:9 display.

I have an Air 2 and ever since the iPad 4, the iPad has become my main device. I play tons of games on it, surf the web, youtube, edit/manage all my photos (camera connection kit), play/manage music (itunes match), podcasts, read news. Its my go to when I'm at work and home.

My phone is mainly used for all the times I need to check something quick

My iMac is used solely for any downloading of large files that need a home base and graphic design work.

Surfing the net from bed, or on the sofa while watching television. I carry my iPad mini with me when I travel to use for internet access away from home, access video content from Netflix etc and BBC World (the latter using my folks cable log in because I'm not going to subscribe to cable for it) and using AirPlay to my AppleTV. When I'm at home, my iPhone pretty much lays untouched unless I'm making a phone call. I'll even use the iPad Mini for texting. Or maybe, I'll text from the iPad in the living room and pick up the conversation on my iPhone in the bedroom. I do not carry the iPad with me outside of the house, or hotel, etc. When I am out and about the city, that's what the iPhone is for (other than making phone calls). The Mac is used for serious word processing, or other office functions, as well as using Maps when you need a larger screen, or using certain interactive educational sites that are more comfortable to use on a full fledged computer and not a tablet (right now I'm stuck on a laptop that I hate because my iMac died and so I'm borrowing a friends extra old laptop in the interim. I hate it). All three devices fulfill certain niches and functions, and I couldn't make it without all three of them: Mac, iPad, iPhone (and my AppleTV, which I love!).

I must admit, less and less these days, I'm considering selling my iPad. When I had an iMac and iPhone the iPad was a useful in-between, but now I have a Macbook Air which is a similar size the iPad is pretty much redundant.

So you mean "more and more these days" right? :p

The iPad is the babysitting device of the century! All of the parents on here can agree with me on this one I bet. I do use it in bed to net surf and watch movies. But my iPhone gets most of the lovin' these days!
