I would love to see video chat with screen sharing brought back to the Messages app, like in the olden days with iChat.
Also, it would be great to have the "Get Info" command in the "File" menu.
FaceID on the Mac

I'm not technology minded, and am just a customer that wants products that work - which doesn't seem to be the same agenda as Apple has nowadays

1) I don't want updates that brick my products
2) I would love to be able to set a date for when my products are updated - such as having the option of the iOS updating, for example, three days or four days after the initial update was released
3) I want lower prices (the only product from Apple I have is an iPhone X which I bought used, and I still thought it was expensive and not worth the price)
4) I would love an Apple laptop - however, I want a big screen and a big storage ...and the only laptop from Apple that fits that is Macbook Pro and those are laughably expensive
5) I would have loved to see a regular consumer version (call it Macbook, Macbook Air or whatever - I don't care what laptops are called) that would have been 12", 14" and 16" - which a base storage of 512gb
6) What I care about is how to charge my products - why not have the same charging thingy for all Apple products?! Why is it now lightning and USB-C? Why doesn't Apple just have USB-C for everything!?
7) It's utterly insane people have to buy a cord to connect their Apple laptops to their iPhones - and also insanely stupid that laptops have headphone jack but the iPhone now have some stupid jack and you can't use the same earphones for both

(and regarding Apple Music app, I want to listen to my cd's on the go, so I import them into iTunes and putting them into iPhone in a specific order, which iPhone always messes up, and there's not even any way to be able to customize the sorting of the music albums)

I just made that jump for the privacy reasons. A house full of HomePods is amazing, but has many issues I didn’t see before doing it. To keep them all intergrated on the Home app they have to fall under one users profile. I would like each family member can customize and get notifications from their HomePod, but this isn’t currently available. HomePods could be really amazing if the put the effort in.
Thanks for sharing your experience with a house full of HomePods. I had not thought about the issue of all of them being on the same account. I agree 100% that HomePods could be amazing with a little more work. I still don't know why Apple won't let you turn on and control you Apple TV with a HomePod. That seems like it should be pretty simple. I can ask Siri to adjust the lights in the room but then I have to reach for the (horribly designed) Apple TV remote to turn on the Apple TV and select an app.

Shocking to read that people here are mostly worried about price. Really? What current Apple stuff would you buy if it was cheap?

Price doesn’t matter, at least in the current situation: It’s too late to actually expect something from Apple, considering they have dropped everything that made the Mac the best computer (the long-time durable investment of Macs has been changed to lack of serviceability and quicker obsolescence; the MagSafe has been dropped; developer standards have been dropped in favour of proprietary APIs; NVIDIA support dropped; user control of the machine has been reduced in favour of the new Apple service-focused business model; etc, etc...)

At this point, the only thing I’d like from Apple is to officially support installing MacOS in PCs. And not because of price (I usually invest more than $3000 in any new machine anyway), but because installing MacOS in PCs is going to be the only way of continuing to have a great Mac user experience (just got a 2018 MBP 15’’ i9 32GB 1TB, so I know what I’m talking about).

I'm interested in seeing the iPod Touch catch up to the iPhones and not stay SO f'n far behind all the other offerings from the Apple. The speed on the Touch that is now for sale is ridiculous! With VoiP now having gotten so much better and the fact that I don't really have need of a cell phone makes the Touch so much more appealing and appropriate for me. But lagging way behind the curve, as it is now, makes that a questionable possibility.

Agreed, seems like they have a ton of opportunity with the home app and intergrating it better in general. The Alexa app was great with working on multiple devices, Home is clunky and not keeping pace with upgrades.

The ultimate list of NEEDS, not mere WANTS:
  • Oust of all engineers and managers responsible for the removal of the SD card slot, the butterfly keyboard, the TouchBar, removal of MagSafe (without a better replacement), the removal of the iconic glowing Apple logo, supporters of thin and light extremism such that they laugh at thermal throttling, and all the price increases that go along with decreased product functionality. It doesn't matter of Johnny Ive is in that mix, they all need to go.
  • Either removal of the TouchBar or a vast improvement that will knock our socks off.
  • Implement a great replacement for the MagSafe we've all come to know and love.
  • Totally rethink the Mac Pro, not as the most expensive and powerful machine that nobody can afford, but as a very powerful modular (upgradable) Mac that everyday Mac users like you and me (i.e., not rich) can afford, love, and rave about to all our Windoze friends. Make me love the Mac again. Stop catering to the rich and keeping the Mac Pro a niche product as a result.
I agree 200% especially with all the above.

A product that is 100% on launch, not sold on key features being in "beta" or "coming soon", or "US only" (e.g, Portrait mode, Siri, Apple Pay, EKG, Stereo HomePod, Group Facetime, duel-sim, etc.).

Seriously, it is a nasty habit Apple is picking up. You sell your product having this key new feature and it DOESN'T HAVE THIS KEY NEW FEATURE. Like where the hell is the power mat a year and a half later?

EDIT: Oh yes, and a return of Apple to a technology company, not a fashion company.

An Apple TV remote that you don't have to turn a light on and look at to make sure you are holding it correctly. It is a really poor design to make something, often used in a dimly lit room, symmetrical so you can't tell if you are holding it upside down (plus it is touch sensitive so it you are holding it wrong, you have probably already triggered some action you didn't want on your Apple TV).

In the What to Expect article that we shared yesterday, we covered everything we think we'll see from Apple in 2019 based both on historical release data and the current rumors that are circulating about the company's 2019 product plans.

A new modular Mac Pro is in the works, and 2019 may be the year that we finally get the AirPower. Apple has more than a dozen original TV shows, which are set to debut through an upcoming streaming TV service that's coming in early 2019. Three new iPhones are on the horizon, and we may see updated AirPods, a new HomePod, and perhaps Apple-branded over-the-ear headphones.

We're also expecting a new Apple Watch, updated versions of iOS and macOS with exciting new features, a refreshed iPad mini, and a redesigned lower-cost iPad, which could be 10 inches instead of 9.7. There's also a chance that Apple has some surprises in the works that we don't yet know about.

AR smart glasses, a virtual reality headset, an Apple Car, and autonomous driving software are all products Apple is rumored to be working on, with no official launch date known. We want to hear from the MacRumors community - what are you hoping to see Apple release in 2019?

Are there specific features you're hoping Apple will implement in iOS 13 or macOS 10.15? New AirPods and HomePod functions you're hoping for? Additions to the Mac and iPhone lineup?

Let us know what you want to see in the comments, and make sure to check out our What to Expect post for a look at the current rumors. Apple's 2019 product plans will become clearer in the early months of the year, and as always, we'll be covering every Apple rumor in depth here at MacRumors.

The MacRumors forums are also a rich resource for discussing upcoming products and rumors, and with so many product launches on the horizon for 2019, our forums are the place to be for lively discussions on what's coming.

Thank you to all of our readers and forum members for making MacRumors the absolute best source of Apple news, rumors, and advice on the web. We wouldn't be here without you, and we look forward to another rumor-filled year in 2019. Happy New Year!

An addendum - I just treated myself to a System76 Oryx Pro laptop for Xmas. 512 GB SSD, 2 TB HDD, now triple booted with three Linux distros. It doesn''t overheat and scores quite high on the Geekbench benchmarks. It has an aluminum body, and cost me about $2300. I'd take this machine, and this OS configuration, any day over the $3000 MBP with similar specs and no ports. And yes, I could have bought a $300 special, but I didn't. I bought a high quality PC laptop. Cheers, and HNY.

While I love Bluetooth and WiFi they have issues in the real world.

With Bluetooth I don't want someone monitoring what I'm typing! Its just not that secure!

WiFi in dense workspaces and even apartments are so radio noisy you can't get stable connections. And lastly, Wired connections are still faster!

1) Apple Maps to pronounce names in language of the country, not the phone. Hearing (English) Siri mangle Dutch or German names is always painful and sometimes confusing. Maps is available in those languages so how hard can it be?

2) Face ID is nice but I don't always want to lift my phone so Touch ID too!

3) Face ID on iMacs and laptops.

4) A photo app that doesn't suck in all the WhatsApp shots I receive. Ideally a replacement for Aperture.

I love the idea of having English maps with native language spoken!

So when I travel I can navigate in english and yet learn the proper pronunciation. This is needed more so for China, Korea, Japan as well as the Arab, Greek, & Russian states which don't use English spellings.

I want to see evidence that Apple is listening to its customers and has a desire to give us what we actually want.

It seems to me that a solid business will update its products in a timely manner, not have several of them lingering for years only to be replaced with lackluster new versions when it's almost too late.

Apple may believe that their products are so iconic that they never need to be updated or redesigned, but that is a failure – it suggests that further improvement is not possible. Once a company starts thinking like that, it's doomed.

So I'd like to see first of all a new iMac that looks new and is better because of that. And I want them to stop screwing customers when it comes to prices of extra RAM and storage, because everyone knows what these things really cost.

The way things are, for me, I'm keeping my Macs ten years because replacing it is so painful. Regular, realistic updates would encourage me and perhaps many others, to get back to a more regular update cycle. We'll be able to plan for it.
[doublepost=1548144025][/doublepost]Also, I really want Apple to realise that some of us us our earphones in noisy environments and simply must have either noise isolation or noise cancelling. I'd be very happy to buy Airpods if they sealed out the noise of my morning bus commute. This is a real blind spot for Apple. One of several.

Apple seems to have stopped listening to certain customers. Rather, they listen to or anticipate or endeavour to create trends. Those who use their macs for work or want regular hardware updates must be a nuisance to them.

I want to see Apple take their time and actually put innovative technology into their devices. I don’t want Apple to just rush out devices or products out knowing that us as Apple users will just suck them up. I wanna see Apple do away with the S line and completely revamp their phones from year to year. No more incremental upgrades that are hard to decipher by the naked eye. As someone who has stood by and purchased Apple devices and products for years upon years I want to see my money going into something that I can whole heartedly feel like I do have the absolute best in cutting edge technology.
