I wasn't implying that you are stupid. I was saying that the idea was stupid. Active cooling allows for constant performance overall. Passive cooling hits a ceiling and then throttling starts. No one wants throttling performance in an iMac (let alone any device I guess). So suggesting something in that direction was "stupid" to begin with. :)
Again, not saying anything about you.
There are computers that always challenge the boundries as there is never enough performance in "pro" field. So, crippling iMac with passive cooling would mean that Apple hasn't pushed it enough and therefore we would get another compromised device. Have we not had enough with Intel and their bottlenecks?

So, you can have this idea but its not a good one. If someone says it then its ok, no? Or has PC achieved another level that most of us will think it but noone dares to say it? I'm sorry but I prefer to be direct.
As you said yourself that you are aware of the T-laws then you must have known that the idea is bad. So why that answer?

Anyway, nothing against you, just against the idea. :p

I quote myself: "If they achieve a fan less M1X computer with big surface for dissipation, it could help to make the iMac even thinner, but I'm not going against thermodynamic laws."

If your reading comprehension allows you to process what you read (although maybe my written expression in a foreign language is not that good), before jumping and talking to people without manners, you could understand that, what I said, is just merely speculation and wishful thinking because, as I said, I know thermodynamic laws, meaning, I know that much heat might be difficult to dissipate without active cooling.

You could have thought that before calling stupidity to another fellow member's opinion. And, since we're discussing this, many people might have thought it was an stupidity to think about fanless computers capable of rendering 4K footage just a few years ago. But hey, we all say stupidities. Some of them just become true eventually.

Rather than calling stupid to people with different opinions, I like to share ideas with those who think different. Sadly, this are tough times to think different.

I'd love to see them finally enable the ECG on the Apple Watch in Australia. Brought in on the series 4, now up to the 6 and its still not active here. If they are really trying to go down the fitness and health route to the extent they are, having an ECG market inactive on an entire continent is a massive missed opportunity

Funny a lot seem to be asking for an M1X ATV (which I kinda want as well) except that would basically turn it into a Mac mini, unless Apple decides to limit GPU cores for the Mini. I would rather just have the Mini (and iMacs) just be more gaming focused (more GPU cores) because I can't see Apple giving you the same power and storage of a mini for the price of the current ATV. I can game on my current ATV but the games are horrible. I have more fun running old games under emulation than anything in Apple's gaming "Arcade"

Right, maybe I overreacted a bit, although I found your first reply a bit too blunt. I'm not a black or white guy, I like to explore ideas, the different shades of grey, you know. Yeah, if we take into account the heat dissipation and the higher power draw of an hypothetical M1X, of course, it needs a fan. I have a fanless M1 MacBook Air and the performance is almost as good as a Pro, but for higher demands I would say a fan is a must.

However. Do you remember those 1.4GH dual core iMacs? That low end iMac that came with a similar configuration as the MacBook Air, circa 2014 or 2015. Maybe Apple could release a consumer level iMac with just an M1, and maybe an iMac Pro (or a high end iMac) with a more powerful SoC. In that case, I think the first one could very well be a fanless computer (it has more surface than the MacBook Air to radiate the heat), and the higher end could have a fan system.

I know, this is a bit going in circles instead of admitting that it will just have a fan. That's the safer bet, of course! But what if... ? I am imagining a thin, flat iMac, just like a big iPad with a stand, and for such design, I honestly don't know how could they put a whole cooling system, unless the fans and the radiators are thin enough. But on the other hand, the screen may get hot, in that case forget everything else I said in my rambling: It has to have any kind of cooling.

To be completely honest, this upcoming iMac is one of the Apple devices that has triggered my curiosity and my imagination the most. More than any other device, and I've never used an iMac (and never will).

I'm already sure Apple has super powerful M1X/2/Whatever chips coming out that will blow away anything else including their current M1 offerings, but that's what I'm hoping to see hardware-wise. Software-wise, I would like to see them bring features like App Library to iPads (It's very useful, I don't understand why it's not there) and just keep polishing up iOS little by little to include things like better external display support and easier multitasking (making it obvious which apps can be used side-by-side for example).

Now that I think about it, I wouldn't mind seeing an App Library for Mac too. Launchpad is a little outdated at this point and could benefit from automatic organization for users who don't just type the name of whatever application they want to launch via Spotlight.

@Populus Also I like that thin, fanless iMac idea. If someone really needs the 10-15% extra performance from active cooling then they can get an iMac Pro. The M1 MacBook Air is definitely not gimped by any means and some people appreciate not having any moving parts to deal with.

You were advocating for an iMac that can be thinner because it’s fanless. They’re not gonna do two different iMac designs (desktops aren’t high-volume enough to merit that, and haven’t been for a decade), and they’re not gonna make their highest-end iMac fanless.

I suspect all iMacs will have a fan, even if it can run at a low RPM.

Yeah, you got a point there.

Apple should NEVER release an OS or IOS until FULLY tested and free of major bugs. They should stop rushing for release dates and release ONLY when they ACTUALLY work. This is so frustrating everytime there is a major release to have functionalities not working, Apple software crashing, links being broken, etc... That is a mess. I gave up on Wiindows in 2007 because I was frustrated with their OS. Now, Apple has come that way also. I want to be clear. I love Apple products and software. But, since all their stuff in integrated, they should and could be more careful.

iPhone with usb-c.... I can charge absolutely every device in my house with a usb-c cable.... except the iPhone. It’s ridiculous. And the only thing worse than lighting is having a portless iPhone.

Apple Watch that supports Qi charging.
Xcode and Final Cut Pro on iPad.

Lots of great ideas here in this discussion.

And it is clear that there are a large number of us anxious to get our hands on the new iMac when it comes out! I can predict that the morning they make it available for purchase on their website is going to be one that I'll set my alarm for, to be as early as possible in placing my order . . .

Bring spatial audio, and Dolby Atmos, everywhere with two tiny devices in one product.

1) An external H1 device that sticks behind a TV. This would allow spatial audio positioning for AirPods.

2) A Bluetooth device with HDMI/optical connection and pass through. AirPods could pair for sound to TV or any other source like set top box, amp, console.

- Much better battery technology (cost, weight, environmental impact, recharge time, life) in all devices
- Easier serviceability and user expandability

A little more sense.

- usb-c across the board
- provide upgrades at cost
- watch with multi-day battery
- touch id back in iPhones
- slightly more open eco-system (stop stifling innovation)
- open up ability to backup to other than icloud

A new SE iPhone with 5G and better battery life. It would be nice if Mac Mini could become more upgradeable without raising it's price. I hate having to choose RAM and SSD size on initial purchase.

I know...dream on!

I really really want to see the 5K iMac panel, shipped in an affordable Apple standalone monitor.

The current situation is ridiculous, the current choices are (i) PC 4K monitors which are not quite right for a 2x retina 27in display and don't have enough pixels, (ii) the plastic and wobbly Logitech 5K, (iii) spending $7000 on the 6K XDR monitor.

The funny product shot in the Keynote of the Mac mini being used with an XDR, which is ten times the price, really hammered the point home.

I feel this is urgent, I have some very old 27 in Cinema displays which I want to upgrade for use with my M1 MacBook Air as soon as my iMac returns to the office.

I want to bring Steve Jobs back to life so much to fix all the glaring problems at Apple now (specifically fragmentation of iPad(and iPhone) lineup, buggy software, and experiences that just *don't* work and are not seamless

In no particular order...

• iUP is great. Would really like a similar program for watches. Also interested what that might look like for computers.
• Ready to see some post-Ive hardware redesign across... Everything. iPhone possibly excluded (this round).
• New AppleTV (box).
• Continued TV+ evolution.
• Continued Arcade evolution.
• Multi-user accounts in iOS.
• Pencil support in pro-level iPhones.

I’m sure there’s more... Oh yeah!
• Add liner notes and other full album info to Music.

I want to see them flesh out their TV offerings. Get more Apple TV channels like Disney+ and Peacock. Apple news+ getting TV offerings like CNN Fox News and MSNBC channels. Making a true Fire Stick competitor. Updating the TV App UI to be better and more intuitive. TV needs a kick in the butt and I hope they deliver, as I do see the potential of it taking over cable.

I'm not sure if this is the kind of thing Apple would do, but I would love to see a first-party wireless carplay dongle. Or at the very least empower a competent third party like Belkin to make one.

The current ones are not great.
