Lossless option for streaming Apple Music -- How can apple, with all its emphasis on multimedia professionals and music, be such a laggard in offering good music quality?
This. I periodically send this request via the feedback site. They have had the ALAC codec for decades which is how I’ve always ripped CDs into iTunes/Music, and it would be great if they would offer a lossless streaming service. I would subscribe to that in a heartbeat.

14 - 16" MacBook Pro with:
- 16+ performance cores
- 4 small cores
- 16+ GPU cores
- Mini-Led Dolby Vision screen with 120Hz
- 1080p webcam
- FaceID + TouchID
- 4x USB-C/TB4
- 12+ hours of battery
- good keyboard

I would throw down a lot of money for such a perfect Netflix/work/gaming machine.

In regards to mail, I shouldn't have to create rules in order for Apple mail to produce different sounds for each mail account. The ability should be integrated into the app like it is for iOS.
But rules is and has been a part of Mail on Mac like forever. It is integrated into the app. Not sure what you are getting at.

12) "Find My" can do that

It's kind of confusing.

The Find My app does indeed show the battery level of my Mac, iPad, iPhone, Apple Watch. But not of the headphones.

The Batteries widget on the iPhone shows the battery level of the iPhone, Apple Watch, and headphones. But not of the Mac or iPad.

The Batteries pane on the Watch's Control Center shows the battery level of the Watch, and of the headphones. But not of anything else.

(There also doesn't appear to be any Find My or Batteries widget on the Mac.)

The third-party app iBetterCharge shows iPhone and iPad battery levels, but not Watch or headphones.

It'd be nice of Apple to unify this stuff.

MacBook “Big Air” - with 14” or 15” narrow bezel display (with touch?), M1 chip with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD - and a few more ports. That’s what I’d like to see.

Sure, low end imac could probably work fanless but were we talking about low end?

Anyway, I would rather have good heat dissipation + fan that is on super low rrpm and is not possible to hear OR work as a back up than no fan at all. Because when it comes to performance (and mainly sustained performance) the fan is needed and always will be unless the chip is crippled or there is some other genius setup. Either way, I don't think we can have both = performance and fanless. M chip has massive potential and massive amount of performance. In order to tap that performance we need to maximise it and as a result the fan will be there even if just only for those long renders etc.

Right, maybe I overreacted a bit, although I found your first reply a bit too blunt. I'm not a black or white guy, I like to explore ideas, the different shades of grey, you know. Yeah, if we take into account the heat dissipation and the higher power draw of an hypothetical M1X, of course, it needs a fan. I have a fanless M1 MacBook Air and the performance is almost as good as a Pro, but for higher demands I would say a fan is a must.

However. Do you remember those 1.4GH dual core iMacs? That low end iMac that came with a similar configuration as the MacBook Air, circa 2014 or 2015. Maybe Apple could release a consumer level iMac with just an M1, and maybe an iMac Pro (or a high end iMac) with a more powerful SoC. In that case, I think the first one could very well be a fanless computer (it has more surface than the MacBook Air to radiate the heat), and the higher end could have a fan system.

I know, this is a bit going in circles instead of admitting that it will just have a fan. That's the safer bet, of course! But what if... ? I am imagining a thin, flat iMac, just like a big iPad with a stand, and for such design, I honestly don't know how could they put a whole cooling system, unless the fans and the radiators are thin enough. But on the other hand, the screen may get hot, in that case forget everything else I said in my rambling: It has to have any kind of cooling.

To be completely honest, this upcoming iMac is one of the Apple devices that has triggered my curiosity and my imagination the most. More than any other device, and I've never used an iMac (and never will).

Another vote for Thunderbolt Display 2021 style.

A 27" 5K slab of aluminium + micro LED + thin bezel would go down very, very nicely indeed.

My 27" iMac finally crapped out 1 week before the announcement of the M1 Macs. I almost bought one as a backup to my 16" MBP. Glad I waited. The first M1 Macs will be highly "trumped" by the forthcoming MacBooks and iMacs.

One thing a few people have mentioned, and I'd like to +1—put both FaceID and TouchID on iPhones. I get the appeal of FaceID, but on the whole I definitely preferred using TouchID... I suppose I'm mostly thinking of how Apple Pay works with FaceID, which is just annoying.

Somebody also mention the Music app. For that, I'd like to see better/more complete info, like the "liner notes" point mentioned above, but also why not give us access to all our history. I've never understood why that isn't a given... ?? So many times I've checked out something new that I really liked, only to have it disappear, unless I either: A) listen to it regularly, or B) add it to my library. Why should we have to "add" it anywhere—it would be so easy to just give us access to our entire history so we could find it.

ps - Yes, I realize there is a History already, but it doesn't go back far enough. Also, to make it compact, they could list only albums, not all songs, like in the current History.

I know it’s probably early, but i can’t wait for a AR/VR headset.

I would love to see a Microsoft surface type iPad Pro which would run iPadOS while the keyboard is detached and then switch to macOS when a keyboard is attached :)

Their hardware is ok... It's their software that's often really bad.
My wish for 2021: Bug free release of any of their OSes. I know — impossible

In our What to Expect article that we shared yesterday, we covered everything that we think we'll see from Apple in 2021 based on current product rumors and historical release data.

What-You-Want-From-Apple-2021-Feature2.jpg

New, more powerful Apple silicon Macs with redesigns, iPhone 13 models with upgraded cameras, new Apple Watch models, and updated AirPods are in the works, plus we're expecting to finally get the AirTags and a new Apple TV.

We know what we think we'll see in 2021, but we want to hear from the MacRumors community. What are you hoping to see Apple release this year?

Are there new features you want to see in iOS 15 or macOS 12? Apple Smart Glasses? Updated iPhone features?

Let us know what you want to see in the comments, and take a look at our What to Expect article for a look at the current rumors. We'll learn more about Apple's 2021 product plans during the first months of the year, and as always, we'll have in-depth rumor coverage here at MacRumors.com.

Our MacRumors forums are also an excellent resource for discussing upcoming products and rumors, and with the most exciting Mac refreshes we've seen in years on the horizon, our forums are the place to be for discussions on what's next.

Thank you to all of our readers and our forum members for continuing to make MacRumors the number one site for Apple news, rumors, and advice on the web. I'd like to see Apple make real hearing aids with software tunable frequency response curves in addition to AirPod Pro functionality. In the meanwhile, it'd be a great feature to have a walkie talkie function that would allow Apple Watch users communicate with nearby friends or spouses over their AirPods via bluetooth or wifi without internet connectivity. I'd sure like to be able to whisper into my wife's ear from across a crowded noisy room to say "Let's sneak out of here" or "Where are you?" when there is no public wifi or cellular signal around like inside Costco's warehouses.

It would be nice to see Apple get back into the AirPort Base Stations with current mesh network and NAS technologies and iCloud linked remote access to Macs and NAS devices on our home networks that works seamlessly with iPads. I hate that I can't access my Drobo at home with my iPad Pro.
