It’s the thoughts about Mac Pro future that is different now.

The Mac has been going pretty strong in the wake of that transition and I don’t expect that to change in 2023. But Apple’s going to be making some choices in the year ahead about where it spends its time and energy developing its computers, which will be interesting to see. Dialing back the Mac Pro, as rumor would have it, from a ridiculously powerful machine to just a tremendously powerful machine will no doubt disappoint some, but it’s a good indication of the fact that Apple knows where its market is. The Mac Pro is already a niche product that accounts for a tiny percentage of Macs and the highest-end configurations are only a small percentage of those sales.

Selling products that appeal to more consumers is a lot like robbing banks: that’s where the money is. This is why it’s also little surprise that the company’s said to be planning a larger version of the MacBook Air, its most popular model. The future of the Mac Studio and the iMac will also help clarify the company’s marketing philosophy, assuming they are indeed updated in the year ahead. In any event, with the excitement of Apple’s latest chip transition coming to a close, it’s time to see what business as usual looks like for the Mac as its 40th anniversary looms.
==========

Interesting those thoughts that the Mac Pro is no longer a goal, more it’s about the future of the Mac Studio and iMac that are the desktop products to emphasis. If thats the case you will have both products evolving during 2023/2024, and ditching the pricy Mac Pro until it’s needed.

Desiring Apple slow down OS release cycle won’t happen ever again from a marketing perspective. All the more progressive technology companies do the same. They want to maintain high visibility with press as WWDC is the kickoff event for the next year cycle of hardware and software releases.
I don’t disagree with you, but it’s slightly more realistic than “build a Time Machine and go back to 2013 and release a Mac Pro tower, NOT a trash can” 😜

- Space Black SS return to the AW regular lineup (not having to purchase an Hermes)
- An iPad Pro 11" worth upgrading from my current 2018.
- An iPad Pro that has a magnetized cutout in the back to hold my Pencil and charge it at the same time.
- Updates and fixes to Books and Podcasts apps.
- Would like a sound bar/Apple TV integrated device.

On Friday, we shared a What to Expect Guide that highlights everything we're expecting to see from Apple in 2023, based on current product rumors and historical release data.

What-Do-You-Want-to-See-2023-Feature.jpg

We're counting on the release of the mixed reality headset that Apple has been working on for years now, along with the Apple silicon Mac Pro and a number of other refreshed Macs. There's an iPhone 15 with a USB-C port in the works, and we could get new HomePod and AirPods Max refreshes.

We know what we think we're going to be seeing from Apple in 2023, but we want to hear opinions and wishlists from the MacRumors community. What do you want to see Apple release this year?

Are there new iPhone features you're hoping for, or something new in iOS 17 or macOS 14? What are you wanting to see from Apple's AR/VR headset?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments, and take a look at our What to Expect guide to see an overview of the current rumors. We'll learn a lot more about Apple's 2023 product plans in the coming months, and we'll have in-depth coverage of the rumors here at MacRumors.com.

If you want to discuss Apple's upcoming products and rumors, our MacRumors forums are an excellent resource, plus they're a great place to get help on current Apple products and software options.

As always, thank you to our readers and forum members for making MacRumors the number one source for Apple news, rumors, and advice. MacRumors celebrated its 22nd birthday this year, and that's thanks to our dedicated readers. We are looking forward to another year of rumors in 2023. Happy New Year!

Some fun. Id love to see some apple iot products and a fully specced out home hub to freshen up this sector with some new ideas. Id suggest a hub with a focus on privacy and security and some apple versions of products like doorbells, cameras and speakers with displays. Also always wanted a portable (ie outdoor with a battery) homepod variant.

I want to see System Settings go back to the old icon view, the new list view is not as easy to use and very un-Apple. At least make icon view an option.
Safari has also gotten worse under Ventura, Apple needs to just give in and follow what everyone else is doing and use the chrome engine. Having Safari behave so poorly on many sites is unacceptable, to me at least

Apple announced their 2-year transition to custom silicon at the start of the pandemic. It’s reasonable to say that the pandemic had an impact on the initial plans. However, I doubt it’s the only reason we haven’t seen an Apple Silicon Mac Pro. Its a big challenge to make their chips compete with and outperform the current Mac Pro as well as provide the type of modularity that isn’t available on any other Mac platform.
All for a very very very small market too. I wonder if the Pro is even profitable.

In 2023, I would like Apple to put out or get out in regards to the Mac Pro. Show us what you got, or admit that the Mac Studio is the most powerful machine the company will offer and that Apple is done with Mac Pro for the foreseeable future.
I agree. I think they might be done with the Pro, but I also feel like the Pro is important to the lineup from a psychological standpoint. It’s like a car company building a high end super car. It isn’t as much about making money as it is flexing muscle.

In 2023 I would like to see:

1. HomePod (successor to the original homepod)
2. Periscope telephoto lens on iPhone
3. Less new O/S features trying to keep up with whichever mobile O/S and more thought-through and consistent functions
4. An iPad friendly M series MacOS distribution - not gonna happen!

1) iPadOS overhaul or option to dual boot macOS

2) A really mini and basic iPhone

While I agree that the new System Setting is much less intuitive, you can’t call it un-Apple. Most Apple devices (iPhone and iPad) feature this kind of view. It’s the old Mac icon view that became un-Apple, sadly.

I expect to see more changes to macOS in the coming years that make it feel more like iOS. This has been happening for a while now. With each macOS release, they add just a little more iOS UI/UX. The trend (and end game) is obvious.

Safari has also gotten worse under Ventura, Apple needs to just give in and follow what everyone else is doing and use the chrome engine. Having Safari behave so poorly on many sites is unacceptable, to me at least
I used to have no issues with Safari, but lately I’ve found it to be more glitchy. I hate to think of a world where one engine powers almost all web browsers, though. Then we’re right back to the Internet Explorer days of old.

1. AppleTV that can play Apple Music’s hi res files in their native resolution.
2. Bit rate switching on the fly with the Mac (Apple) Music app.
3. Final Cut on the iPad
4. 15 inch iPad
5. longer telephoto lens on the iPhone
6. 48 mp resolution on more of the iPhone lenses
7. Homepod more similar to the original

1. a router. I liked my Apple router and don't like the competition. I always found always simple to stay on top of it and it just worked. I actually still use the last Apple router as the main router and have a 3rd party router as a wifi access point. the apple router is slower wifi wise but family doesn't complain. it's fast enough.

2. cheaper 27" monitor. $1600 is rich. CAn't they make an $800 one? $999 list price might even get me to bite.

3. new HomePod. I have 2 originals. But I am interested in what they come up with next here. Might not buy it but am interested.

4. dock for your iphone that turns it into a desktop iOS computer with monitor, Magic Mouse/keyboard support.

5. if some of the above doesn't pan out then I'd like to see the next Mac mini M2 and/or M2 iMac. don't really need to upgrade but would entertain the idea.

Accent colors on iOS. I do not like having to jailbreak my device and pay $2 for a basic function that should've been included since iOS 7's new design

Themeable macOS. Including Snow Leopard / Mountain Lion Themes ootb
oh yes that would be fantastic also, however I don't see them maintaining 3 (and a half?) different UIs all at once

A better mouse. I want a wireless reissue of the Apple Pro Mouse, but with all the scroll, and touch functionality of the Magic Mouse. I don't even care if the charging port is on the bottom.

They won't actually make it, but that's what I want from Apple in 2023...

1. Making Apple Music better. It looks like they have started on the Mac but it needs to come to IOS

2. Fix the notifications thing. I hate how you are scrolling up and it looks like there are multiple notifications but there is in fact only one for a specific app. I think they should fix it by having the first notification from an app saying how many notifications are behind it and then you can click on it. If there is a single notification than it's just normal.

3. I think you should be given the fitness challenge of the next month immediately after you finish the current month challenge on the Apple Watch. I don't know why I get so anxious about it, but I have been.

4. Fix Apple Books. Why take things away when you can just give users an option. I don't like the page slide thing they have and would rather have the page turning animation
