So many things to wish for…

MacBook Air
- a 15 inch version
- add more USB-C ports, making sure there is at least one on each side
- add the SD card reader back

Macs in general:
- lean into the eGOU space again
- get over gripes with NVIDIA, and work to make Metal on par with DirectX in terms of performance and developer engagement/ease of use

iPads:
- dear lord, add the headphone Jack please to all iPads!!!! The extra space is not needed, and it’s crazy annoying to have to worry about dongles when just having my young kids use the iPad occasionally. I have no desire to get another Bluetooth headset that can run out of batteries for them.
- add more usb-C ports. Many more. For the iPad pros, give them just as many inputs as the MacBook pros, even if just all USB-Cs.
- horizontal-oriented FaceTime cams on all iPads.

iPhone:
- would love to see apple move to a 1-inch type sensor or even larger, at least for the main camera. The mind boggles at what they could do with that kind of performance.
- periscope zoom camera
- USB-C (I know, it’s coming…)
- headphone Jack (lost cause on the phone, but shouldn’t be on the iPad!)

Other:
- a mesh networking system. Apple used to get weird an experimental with their Wi-Fi products (see AirPort Express). Would be cool to see what they could come up with these days. Weird / Foolosh Apple is Apple at its best.

Happy New Year!

You are almost certainly right about this, which is why I’m probably going to have to jump ship. Unfortunately, I’m deeply invested in Homepods (3 pair of OG HP and 6 minis), so doing so will be a big disappointment. Sigh! The OG HomePod had so much promise. ☹️
Agreed. It was a very nice speaker. But it wasn’t a home audio solution. For that you need a variety of devices and options. You need surround sound, a subwoofer, etc. Sonos offers something for every conceivable use case from a portable speaker to a home theater setup. To compete, Apple would need to do the same. I just don’t see them doing it.

I’ve been extremely happy with my Sonos system. I bought a HomePod when it was released and compared it to the Sonos Five. Sonos definitely sounded better to my ears. More balanced and not so bass-heavy as HomePod. A number of rooms in my house use the Sonos Amp with in-ceiling speakers (of my choice). Sonos is a great system, very flexible, and supports tons of music and audio services. Make the switch. You won’t regret it!

Late to the thread so some of this has probably been mentioned already.

- an M3 iMac in solid rather than two-tone (three-tone actually) colours. Pare it down to four colour options: blue, green, silver (or space grey) and starlight. Offer at least 24 and 32GB RAM options beyond the 16 now available.
- a reasonably priced (for Apple) 15in. MacBook Air.
- more USB-C ports on the MacBooks.
- bring back Touch ID on iPhones.
- an Apple Pencil that works on all iPad models.
- put an audio jack back on all the iPads.

The ship has sailed on iPads, but I think they blew it on the 10th generation. They should have made it 10.5 inches with the new design chassis and kept the price much more reasonable.

A new XDR display. 7k resolution, promotion, 35” size.
Major drop in price for the current XDR, same for the stand/nano options.

Apple Watch ultra in space grey and no orange buttons.

Products

1. AirPort Extreme mesh router.
2. Power Mac G4-style easy access M2 or M3-based tower, not just a $5000 workstation.

Apple, the Company

1. A reorganization of Apple's home devices into a home division under one executive.
2. A top-down reevaluation of Mac OS that includes stopping the yearly release cycle and the consistent desire to replace Mac OS fundamentals (like System Preferences.app) with their iOS counterparts.
3. Apple to put all legacy software and hardware including service manuals available to download or donate them to the Internet Archive to be preserved.
4. Apple needs to get back to being a design company and not a bean counter/price per component company.

As I type this on a 2014 MacBook whose battery is starting to cause the case to bulge, I'm looking for new MacBook Pros to be released really early in the year, rather than later.

What’s your use case here?
A single device that takes place of having to carry both an iPad and MBP. Something as portable as an iPad with software (allowed to be) as capable as a Mac.

At work I’m constantly moving from desk to desk to setup hardware for clients. A significant amount of software and functionality is only available on the Mac, so it has to be available. Some software is only available on the iPad so it too has to be available. Meanwhile the Mac requires a platform to set it on to be used while the iPad can be handheld and still used to its full potential.

There are many times iPad will be in my hands but need to reference something or use some software on the Mac that takes all of 10 seconds so I have to go to the Mac or dig it out.
To rephrase this: There are many times the iPad is in my hands and I need to reference information on our project manager, or login to a Safari unfriendly site to press a couple buttons, or act upon some attachments from a client's email. Quite often the limitations of iPadOS and the over-simplified 3rd party software on iPad makes processes that are 15 seconds on macOS instead take minutes or fail entirely because of small technicalities on iPadOS.

1) a new Mac mini and sharpish. I'm concerned that by the time it comes out I'll have saved up enough for a Mac Studio, so I'd like to not have to make that decision by having the M2 mini come out before that point 🤣

2) Apple to finally figure out what it wants to do with Launchpad on the Mac. Either get rid of it or update it so it's on par with iOS / iPad OS Home Screens (or App Library).

That’s fine. Apple granted us with “Haptic Keyboard" with iOS 16 and if people don't want it they can turn it off. It's nice to have that option available. The same could be applied to the 3D Touch. I just miss that premium touch.
No you misunderstood me

3d touche engine takes a lot more space than haptics sadly

So bringing it back into the phone will force apple to reduce the battery size

1. 27” iMac replacement (bigger screen size would be nice).
2. ~15” MBA.
3. USB C replacement for lightening throughout the product line.
4. Get HomeKit to work reliably.
5. Homepod replacement of similar sound quality and not a HomePod Mini update which is cheap and sounds terrible.

M* update for Mac Pro and M-Class iOS device. The latter I might purchase. The former, I think the world needs now (like I need a hole in my head, but still….)

iPhone with USB-C charging and AirPods that I can really get to stay stuck in my ears without giving up on the standard charging box.

Bring back the $499 Mac mini in a smaller enclosure that is actually mini. They can sell the iPad Air for $599 and it’s essentially the same thing without a screen, speakers, and cameras. Also would like a display that costs less than a grand. Lower memory and storage prices would be welcome as well.

None of this will happen.

- More iCloud storage
- An Apple Watch that is actually a meaningful upgrade from 3 generations ago
- HomePod not Mini

The rest is perfectly fine in my opinion (all the expected upgrades)
